1 From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through the wil of God in accordance with his promise of life in ChristJesus,	1 Paolo, per volontà di Dio apostolo di Cristo Gesù per la promessa di vita che è in Cristo Gesù,
2 to Timothy, dear son of mine. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus ourLord.	2 a Timoteo, diletto figlio, grazia, misericordia e pace da Dio Padre e da Cristo Gesù, il Signore nostro!
3 Night and day I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my ancestors did. I remember you inmy prayers constantly night and day;	3 Rendo grazie a Dio, che io adoro con pura coscienza nella religione dei miei antenati, felice di ricordarti assiduamente nelle mie preghiere, notte e giorno,
4 I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my joy.	4 con la brama, che più s’accende al ricordo delle tue lagrime, di rivederti per esser colmato di gioia,
5 I also remember your sincere faith, a faith which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your motherEunice, and I am sure dwel s also in you.	5 e rinnovare la memoria della tua fede sincera e tersa, quella stessa che animò già tua nonna Loide e tua madre Eunice, e che anima, ne son convinto, anche te.
6 That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through thelaying on of my hands.	6 Ti ricordo perciò di riaccendere il carisma divino che ti fu dato per mezzo dell’imposizione delle mie mani.
7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control.	7 Dio infatti non ci diede uno spirito di timidezza, ma di fortezza e di carità e di assennatezza.
8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; butshare in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God	8 Non vergognarti dunque di testimoniare per il Signore nostro, né per me, suo prigioniero, ma sopporta le comuni sofferenze per l'evangelo con la fortezza che viene da Dio.
9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for hisown purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before thebeginning of time,	9 Egli ci salvò e ci chiamò con una vocazione santa, non in considerazione delle opere nostre, ma conformemente a un suo proprio piano di grazia, preparato per noi in Cristo Gesù avanti i tempi eterni,
10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death,and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel,	10 ma reso manifesto soltanto ora mediante la manifestazione del Salvatore nostro, Cristo Gesù, il quale annientò la morte e fece rifulgere vita e immortalità per mezzo dell’evangelo.
11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher.	11 È per esso che io fui stabilito banditore e apostolo e maestro.
12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom Ihave put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted tohim.	12 Per esso io soffro anche questi mali, e senza vergogna. So infatti in chi ho riposto la mia fiducia e sono convinto che egli è capace di custodire il mio deposito fino a quel giorno.
13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are inChrist Jesus.	13 Tieni a modello le sane parole che udisti da me, nella fede e nella carità che è in Cristo Gesù.
14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwel s in us, look after that precious thing given in trust.	14 Custodisci il bel deposito mediante lo Spirito Santo, che inabita in noi.
15 As you know, Phygelus and Hermogenes and al the others in Asia have deserted me.	15 Tu lo sai che mi abbandonarono tutti quelli che sono in Asia, fra i quali sono Figelo ed Ermogene.
16 I hope the Lord wil be kind to al the family of Onesiphorus, because he has often been a comfort tome and has never been ashamed of my chains.	16 Conceda misericordia il Signore alla casa di Onesiforo, perché spesso mi rianimò e non si vergognò delle mie catene,
17 On the contrary, as soon as he reached Rome, he searched hard for me and found me.	17 anzi, giunto a Roma, tanto premurosamente mi cercò e trovò.
18 May the Lord grant him to find the Lord's mercy on that Day. You know better than anyone else howmuch he helped me at Ephesus.	18 Gli sia concesso di trovare misericordia presso il Signore in quel gran giorno! E quanti servizi rese ad Efeso, tu lo sai meglio di me.
