Jeremiah 10

1 Hear ye the word which the Lord hath spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.	1 Ecoutez la parole que le Seigneur a prononcée sur vous, maison d'Israël.
2 Thus saith the Lord: Learn not according to the ways of the Gentiles: and be not afraid of the signs of heaven, which the heathens fear:	2 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Ne soyez pas les disciples des voies des nations, et ne craignez pas les signes du ciel que craignent les nations,
3 For the laws of the people are vain: for the works of the hand of the workman hath cut a tree out of the forest with an axe.	3 car les lois des peuples ne sont que vanité. La main de l'ouvrier coupe un arbre dans la forêt avec la hache;
4 He hath decked it with silver and gold: he hath put it together with nails and hammers, that it may not fall asunder.	4 il en fait une oeuvre décorée d'or et d'argent; il la fixe avec des clous et des marteaux, afin qu'elle ne tombe pas en pièces.
5 They are framed after the likeness of a palm tree, and shall not speak: they must be carried to be removed, because they cannot go. Therefore, fear them not, for they can neither do evil nor good.	5 Ces statues sont fabriquées à la ressemblance d'un tronc de palmier, et elles ne parlent pas; on les lève et on les porte, parce qu'elles ne peuvent marcher. Ne les craignez donc pas, car elles ne peuvent faire ni bien ni mal.
6 There is none like to thee, O Lord: thou art great and great is thy name in might.	6 Nul n'est semblable à Vous, Seigneur; Vous êtes grand, et Votre nom est grand en puissance.
7 Who shall fear thee, O king of nations? for thine is the glory: among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms there is none like unto thee.	7 Qui ne Vous craindra, ô roi des nations? car la gloire Vous appartient; parmi tous les sages des nations, et dans tous leurs royaumes, nul n'est semblable à Vous.
8 They shall all proved together to be senseless and foolish: the doctrine of their vanity is wood.	8 On les convaincra tous qu'ils sont fous et insensés; leur doctrine de vanité est un morceau de bois.
9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tharsis, and gold from Ophaz: the work of the artificer, and of the hand of the coppersmith: violet and purple is their clothing: all these things are the work of artificers.	9 On apporte le meilleur argent de Tharsis, et l'or d'Ophaz; l'ouvrier et la main de l'orfèvre les mettent en oeuvre; l'hyacinthe et la pourpre leur servent de vêtements : tout cela est l'oeuvre des artisans.
10 But the Lord is the true God: he is the living God, and the everlasting king, at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his threatening.	10 Mais le Seigneur est le vrai Dieu; Il est le Dieu vivant et le Roi éternel. Son indignation fait trembler la terre, et les nations ne supportent pas Ses menaces.
11 Thus then shall you say to them: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth, and from among those places that are under heaven.	11 Vous leur parlerez donc ainsi : Que les dieux qui n'ont pas fait le ciel et la terre disparaissent de la terre et de dessous le ciel.
12 He that maketh the earth by his power, that prepareth the world by his wisdom, and stretcheth out the heavens by his knowledge.	12 C'est Dieu qui a créé la terre par Sa puissance, qui a préparé le monde par Sa sagesse, et qui a étendu les cieux par Son intelligence.
13 At his voice he giveth a multitude of waters in the heaven, and lifteth up the clouds from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings for rain, and bringeth for the wind out of his treasures.	13 A Sa voix Il met une masse d'eau dans le ciel, et Il élève les nuées des extrémités de la terre; Il fait fondre en pluie les éclairs, et Il fait sortir les vents de Ses trésors.
14 Every man is become a fool for knowledge every artist is confounded in his graven idol: for what he hath cast is false, and there is no spirit in them.	14 Tout homme devient insensé par sa science, tout artiste est couvert de honte par sa statue; car ce qu'il a fondu est une fausseté et un corps sans âme.
15 They are vain things and a ridiculous work: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.	15 Ce sont des choses vaines et une oeuvre dont on doit rire; elles périront lorsque viendra leur châtiment.
16 The portion of Jacob is not like these: for it is he who formed all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.	16 Celui qui est la part de Jacob ne leur ressemble pas, car c'est Lui qui a tout créé, et Israël est le sceptre de Son héritage; Son nom est le Dieu des armées.
17 Gather up thy shame out of the land, thou that dwellest in a siege.	17 Ramasse à terre ton ignominie, toi qui habites en plein siège;
18 For thus saith the Lord: Behold I will cast away far off the inhabitants of the land at this time: and I will afflict them, so that they may be found.	18 car ainsi parle le Seigneur : Voici que, cette fois, Je jetterai au loin les habitants de ce pays, et Je les affligerai de telle sorte que pas un ne M'échappera.
19 Woe is me for my destruction, my wound is very grievous. But I said: Truly this is my own evil, and I will bear it.	19 Malheur à moi, à cause de ma ruine et de ma plaie maligne. Mais j'ai dit : C'est de moi que vient mon malheur, et je le supporterai.
20 My tabernacle is laid waste, all my cords are broken: my children are gone out from me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.	20 Ma tente a été détruite, tous mes cordages ont été rompus; mes enfants sont sortis de mon enceinte, et ne sont plus. Il n'y a plus personne pour dresser ma tente, ni pour relever mes pavillons.
21 Because the pastors have done foolishly, and have not sought the Lord: therefore have they not understood, and all their flock is scattered.	21 Car les pasteurs ont agi d'une manière insensée, et ils n'ont pas cherché le Seigneur; c'est pourquoi ils ont été sans intelligence, et tout leur troupeau a été dispersé.
22 Behold the sound of a noise cometh, a great commotion out of the land of the north: to make the cities of Juda a desert, and a dwelling for dragons.	22 Voici qu'une rumeur se fait entendre, et un grand tumulte qui vient de la terre de l'aquilon, pour réduire les villes de Juda en un désert et en un repaire de dragons.
23 I know, O Lord, that the way of a man is not his: neither is it in a man to walk, and to direct his steps.	23 Seigneur, je sais que la voie de l'homme n'est pas en son pouvoir, et que l'homme ne peut point marcher et diriger ses pas par lui-même.
24 Correct me, O Lord, but yet with judgement: and not in fury, lest thou bring me to nothing.	24 Châtiez-moi, Seigneur, mais avec justice, et non dans Votre fureur, de peur que Vous ne me réduisiez au néant.
25 Pour out thy indignation upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the provinces that have not called upon thy name: because they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have destroyed his glory.	25 Répandez Votre indignation sur les nations qui ne Vous connaissent pas, et sur les provinces qui n'ont point invoqué Votre nom, car elles ont dévoré Jacob, elles l'ont consumé entièrement, et ont détruit toute sa gloire.
