Prima Epistola di San Ioanne Apostolo 4

1 Carissimi, non vogliate credere a ogni spirito, ma provate li spiriti, se son di Dio; perchè molti falsi profeti son usciti nel mondo.	1 Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 In questo si conosce il spirito di Dio: ogni spirito, che confessa che Iesù Cristo venisse in carne, è da Dio.	2 By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God:
3 E ogni spirito che nega non è da Dio; anzi è Anticristo, del quale voi avete udito ch' è venuto, e ora è nel mondo.	3 And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and he is now already in the world.
4 Voi, figliuoli, siete da Iddio, e vincestelo; però che maggiore è quello ch' è in voi, che colui ch' è nel mondo.	4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 Egli son del mondo; e però favellano del mondo, e il mondo li ode.	5 They are of the world: therefore of the world they speak, and the world heareth them.
6 Ma noi siamo da Iddio; e quelli che conosce Iddio, ode noi; quelli che non è da Dio, non ode noi; in questo conosciamo lo spirito della verità, e lo spirito dell' errore.	6 We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Carissimi, amiamoci insieme; imperò che l'amore è da Dio, e ogni uomo che ama è nato da Dio, e conosce Iddio.	7 Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 Quelli che non ama, non conosce Iddio; però che Idio è amore.	8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity.
9 In questo si dimostra la carità di Dio in noi; imperò che mandò Iddio il suo Figliuolo unigenito in questo mondo, acciò che noi viviamo per lui.	9 By this hath the charity of God appeared towards us, because God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we may live by him.
10 In questo è la carità; non che noi abbiamo in prima amato Iddio, ma però ch' è in prima amò noi, e mandò il suo Figliuolo per perdonatore dei nostri peccati.	10 In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.
11 Carissimi, così ci amò Iddio, e noi dovemo amare l'uno l'altro.	11 My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another.
12 Niuno uomo vide Iddio già mai. Se noi insieme ci amiamo, Iddio è in noi, e la sua carità è perfetta in noi.	12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his charity is perfected in us.
13 In questo conoscemo che permarremo in lui, ed egli in noi; però che (Iddio) diè a noi dello suo Spirito.	13 In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us: because he hath given us of his spirit.
14 E noi vedemmo, e testimoniamo che il Padre mandò il suo Figliuolo Salvatore del mondo.	14 And we have seen, and do testify, that the Father hath sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Qualunque confesserà che Iesù sia Figliuolo di Dio, Iddio permane in lui, ed egli in Iddio.	15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.
16 E noi conoscemmo e credemmo alla carità, la quale ha Iddio in noi. Dio è carità; e quel che sta in carità, sta in Iddio, e Iddio in lui.	16 And we have known, and have believed the charity, which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity, abideth in God, and God in him.
17 In questo è perfetta la carità di Dio con noi, acciò che noi abbiamo fidanza nel dì del giudizio; chè sì come egli è, e noi semo in questo mondo.	17 In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because as he is, we also are in this world.
18 La paura non è in carità; ma la carità perfetta manda fuori ogni timore, però che la paura ha in sè pena; ma quello che teme, non è perfetto in carità.	18 Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity.
19 Dunque noi amiamo Iddio, imperò ch' egli amò noi in prima.	19 Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us.
20 Ma se alcuno dicerà: io amo Iddio, e averà in odio il suo fratello, è menzognero; però che quello che non ama il suo fratello, il quale vede, come può amare Dio, il quale non vede?	20 If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother; he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how can he love God, whom he seeth not?
21 E questo comandamento avemo da Iddio, che quel che ama Iddio, ami il suo fratello.	21 And this commandment we have from God, that he, who loveth God, love also his brother.
