| 1 Per la qual cosa molto ci conviene porre mente a quelle cose le quali avemo udito, chè per la ventura non transcorriamo presto. | 1 Therefore we must pay the closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. |
| 2 Chè se la parola, che fatta è per li angeli, è ferma, e se ogni prevaricamento e ogni inobbedienza riceverà giusto guiderdone secondo la sua mercede; | 2 For if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, |
| 3 come potremo fuggire, se noi non averemo cura di così grande salute? La qual ebbe cominciamento d' essere annunziata per il Signore a coloro che l'udirono (e intesero), e in noi fu confermata, | 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him, |
| 4 testimoniandola Dio con miracoli e con li dimostramenti e con molte virtù e con donamenti di Spirito secondo la sua volontà. | 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will. |
| 5 Veramente Dio non sottomise alli angeli il mondo che dee venire, del quale noi parliamo. | 5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. |
| 6 E uno sì testimonia in un luogo della (scrittura del salterio), e dice: (o Dio) chi è l' uomo, che tu ti ricordi di lui, ovver il figliuolo dell' uomo, che tu il visiti? | 6 It has been testified somewhere, "What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man, that thou carest for him? |
| 7 Tu [il] facesti uno poco minore che gli angeli, e l' hai coronato di gloria e di onore, e ordinasti lui sopra l' opere delle tue mani. | 7 Thou didst make him for a little while lower than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honor, |
| 8 E tutte le cose ponesti sotto alli suoi piedi. In quello che dice, che tutte le cose sottopose a lui, sì dimostra a noi, che niente lasciò che non gli sottomettesse; e noi vedemo che ancora non son tutte le cose sottoposte a lui. | 8 putting everything in subjection under his feet." Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. |
| 9 Ma vedemo che quelli ch' è un poco minorato. degli angeli, Iesù (secondo l'umanità), ch' egli per la passione della sua morte sì è coronato di gloria e d'onore; imperò che per grazia di Dio per tutti volse assaggiare la morte. | 9 But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every one. |
| 10 Per tutti convenia essere consumato per passione di morte quelli, per il quale e dal quale tutte le cose furono fatte; il quale molti figliuoli hae menati in gloria, accrescitore della salute loro. | 10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. |
| 11 Veramente quelli che santifica, e quelli che son santi, tutti procedono da uno. Per la qual cosa non si vergogna di chiamare li suoi eletti, fratelli, dicendo: | 11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren, |
| 12 Io annunziarò il tuo nome alli fratelli miei: e nel mezzo della Chiesa loro lodarò te. | 12 saying, "I will proclaim thy name to my brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee." |
| 13 E ancora dice: io sarò confidente in quello. E ancora dice: ecco li fanciulli, li quali mi diede Dio. | 13 And again, "I will put my trust in him." And again, "Here am I, and the children God has given me." |
| 14 Adunque, però che questi figliuoli s' accomunarono alla carne e al sangue, ed egli simigliantemente si fece partecipe con essi, acciò che per la morte distruggesse colui il quale avea signorìa della morte, cioè il diavolo, | 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, |
| 15 e per liberare coloro li quali, per paura della morte, per tutta la loro vita erano dati a servitù. | 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. |
| 16 Per niuno tempo prese li angeli, ma prese il seme d'Abraam. | 16 For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham. |
| 17 Onde per tutte le cose si doveva fare simigliante alli suoi fratelli, chè fosse misericordioso, e pontefice fedele inanzi a Dio, per perdonare le peccata. | 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people. |
| 18 Veramente in quello ch' egli fu passionato e tentato, in quello ora è potente d'aiutare a coloro che son tentati. | 18 For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. |
