| 1 Chiamò adunque Isaac Iacob, e benedìsselo, e comandd a lui dicendo: non torre moglie della stirpe di Canaan. | 1 Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women. |
| 2 Ma va, e fa pro’ in Mesopotamia di Siria alla casa di Batuel, padre della madre tua; e tuogli quindi moglie delle figliuole di Laban, tuo avolo. | 2 Arise, go to Paddan-aram to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take as wife from there one of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother. |
| 3 In verità Dio onnipotente benedìcati, e crescere faccia te, ed anco te moltiplichi, acciò che tu sia nelle turbe de' popoli. | 3 God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become a company of peoples. |
| 4 E dea a te la benedizione d'Abraam, e al seme tuo dopo te, acciò che tu possedi la terra della peregrinazione tua, la quale egli promise all'avo tuo. | 4 May he give the blessing of Abraham to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings which God gave to Abraham!" |
| 5 E quando lo lasciò Isaac, lui partitosi venne in Mesopotamia di Siria a Laban figliuolo di Batuel Siro, fratello di Rebecca sua madre. | 5 Thus Isaac sent Jacob away; and he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother. |
| 6 Ma veggendo Esaù, che avea benedetto lo padre suo Iacob, e avesse mandato lui in Mesopo tamia di Siria, acciò che quindi togliesse moglie; e che dopo la benedizione gli comandò dicendo: non toglier moglie delle figliuole di Canaan; | 6 Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram to take a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he charged him, "You shall not marry one of the Canaanite women," |
| 7 e che Iacob avea obbedito al padre e alla madre sua, e che fosse ito in Siria; | 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother and gone to Paddan-aram. |
| 8 approvando ancora che non volontieri lo padre suo guardasse le figliuole di Canaan; | 8 So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women did not please Isaac his father, |
| 9 andò a Ismael, e menò moglie, senza quelle ch' egli avea prima; ciò fu Maelet figliuola d'Ismael figliuolo d'Abraam, sorella di Nabaiot. | 9 Esau went to Ishmael and took to wife, besides the wives he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth. |
| 10 Adunque, partitosi Iacob di Bersabea, andava ad Aran. | 10 Jacob left Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. |
| 11 E conciosiacosa che fosse venuto ad alcuno luogo, e volèssesi in quello luogo riposare dopo il sole tramontato, tolse delle pietre ch' erano quivi, ponendole sotto lo capo suo. Dormì in quello mede simo luogo. | 11 And he came to a certain place, and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. |
| 12 E vidde in sogno una scala stante sopra la terra, e l'altezza sua toccava lo cielo, e li angeli del Signore salienti e discendenti per quella scala; | 12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! |
| 13 e lo Signore unito a quella scala, dicendo a lui: io sono lo Signore Iddio d'Abraam tuo padre, e Dio d'Isaac; la terra, nella quale tu dormi, a te darò e al seme tuo. | 13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said, "I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and to your descendants; |
| 14 E sarà lo germoglio tuo tanto quasi come la polvere della terra; e sì amplierotti dall'oriente insino all'occidente, e da settentrione al meridie; e saranno benedette in te, e nel seme tuo, tutte le tribù della terra. | 14 and your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and by you and your descendants shall all the families of the earth bless themselves. |
| 15 Ed io sarò tuo guardiano dovunque anderai; e rimenerotti in questa terra, e non lascerò se non quando averò compiuta ogni cosa ch' io ho detto. | 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done that of which I have spoken to you." |
| 16 E quando si svegliò Jacob del sonno, disse: veramente lo Signore è in questo luogo, ed io nol sapea. | 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place; and I did not know it." |
| 17 E spaventatosi, disse: oh quanto è terribile questo luogo! e'non è qui altro se non la casa di Dio e la porta del cielo. | 17 And he was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven." |
| 18 E levandosi adunque la mattina, tolse la pietra la quale egli s' avea posta sotto lo capo suo; e dirizzolla in titolo, spargentevi su olio. | 18 So Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone which he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. |
| 19 E appello lo nome della città BETEL, la quale prima LUZA era chiamata. | 19 He called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first. |
| 20 Ancora si votò, dicendo: se sarà Iddio meco, e guarderà me nella via per la quale io vo, e darà a me del pane a mangiare, e vestimente a vestire, | 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, |
| 21 e ritornerò prosperoso alla casa del padre mio, sarà a me lo Signore mio in Dio. | 21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, |
| 22 E questa pietra, ch' io ho dirizzata in titolo, sarà chiamata CASA DI Dio; e di tutte quante quelle cose le quali tu mi darai la decima offerirò a te. | 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou givest me I will give the tenth to thee." |
