| 1 E in verità lo Signore visitò Sara, sì come l'avea promesso; ed empiè quello che disse. | 1 The LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had promised. |
| 2 E concepette, e partorì nella vecchiezza sua, nel tempo ch' elli avea predetto. | 2 And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. |
| 3 E chiamò Abraam lo nome del figliuolo suo, lo quale generoe a lui Sara, Isaac. | 3 Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. |
| 4 E circoncise lui l'ottavo die, sì come avea comandato Iddio, | 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. |
| 5 quando avea cento anni; in verità, di questa età del padre, nato è Isaac. | 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. |
| 6 E disse Sara: cosa fece a me Iddio? chiunque l'udirà, riderà di me. | 6 And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; every one who hears will laugh over me." |
| 7 E un'altra volta disse: o chi fie quelli, che l'udirà, creda ad Abraam, che Sara lattasse figliuolo, il quale partorì già vecchia? | 7 And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would suckle children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age." |
| 8 Adunque cresce lo fanciullo, il quale è islattato; e fece Abraam grande convito nel dì che si spoppò. | 8 And the child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. |
| 9 Conciosia cosa che vedesse Sara lo figliuolo di Agar d'Egitto, scherzante con Isaac, disse ad Abraam: | 9 But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, playing with her son Isaac. |
| 10 Caccia questa ancilla e il figliuolo suo. In verità che non sarà erede lo figliuolo dell' ancilla mia, insieme col figliuolo mio Isaac. | 10 So she said to Abraham, "Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac." |
| 11 Duramente ricevette Abraam questa cosa, per lo figliuolo suo. | 11 And the thing was very displeasing to Abraham on account of his son. |
| 12 Al quale disse Iddio: non ti paia aspro sopra lo fanciullo tuo Ismael e sopra l'ancilla tua; ogni cosa che t'ha detto Sara, odi la voce sua; imperciò che in Isaac sarà chiamato a te lo seme. | 12 But God said to Abraham, "Be not displeased because of the lad and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your descendants be named. |
| 13 Ma il figliuolo dell' ancilla tua farò in grande gente; impercio che gli è tuo seme. | 13 And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also, because he is your offspring." |
| 14 E levossi dunque Abraam la mattina; e tolse del pane e uno vaso di acqua, e sì lo pose in su li suoi omeri, e dielle il fanciullo. La quale, concio siacosa ch' ella se n'andasse, andava nel deserto di Bersabea. | 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. |
| 15 E conciosiacosa che consumata fosse l'acqua nel vaso, gittò lo fanciullo sotto uno àlbore, lo quale era ivi appresso dove ella era. | 15 When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the child under one of the bushes. |
| 16 E andoe, e sedette da lungi dal luogo quanto uno arco puote saettare; e disse: io non vederò mo rire lo fanciullo, e sedette contra colui. Il fanciullo levoe la voce sua, e pianse. | 16 Then she went, and sat down over against him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, "Let me not look upon the death of the child." And as she sat over against him, the child lifted up his voice and wept. |
| 17 E in verità esaudì lo Signore la voce del fanciullo. E chiamò l'angelo del Signore di cielo Agar, dicendo: che fai Agar? Non avere paura, chè Iddio hae esaudita la voce, del luogo nel quale lui è. | 17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, "What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. |
| 18 Sollèvati su; e tuogli lo fanciullo, e tieni la mano sua; imperciò che in grande gente farò lui venire. | 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast with your hand; for I will make him a great nation." |
| 19 E aperse gli occhi suoi Iddio; la quale ve dente uno pozzo d'acqua, andò ed empiè l'otro, e diede al fanciullo here. | 19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. |
| 20 E fue con lui; il quale crescendo stette nella solitudine; e fatto è il giovane sagittario (che si usoe all'arco). | 20 And God was with the lad, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. |
| 21 E abitò nel deserto di Faran; e diegli la madre sua moglie della terra d'Egitto. | 21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt. |
| 22 In quello medesimo tempo disse Abimelec, e Ficol principe dello esercito suo, ad Abraam: Iddio teco è in tutte quelle cose che tu fai. | 22 At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army said to Abraham, "God is with you in all that you do; |
| 23 Giura adunque per Dio, che tu non nocerai a me e alle mie cose e alla schiatta mia, ma secondo la misericordia, ch' io feci a te, farai tu a me e alla terra nella quale tu sei stato forestiere. | 23 now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity, but as I have dealt loyally with you, you will deal with me and with the land where you have sojourned." |
| 24 E disse Abraam: io giuro. | 24 And Abraham said, "I will swear." |
| 25 E riprese Abimelec per lo pozzo dell' acqua, il quale per forza n'aveano portato i servi suoi. | 25 When Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well of water which Abimelech's servants had seized, |
| 26 Rispose Abimelec: io non seppi chi fece questa cosa, e tu non mel dicesti; ed io nol so, e non l'udii se non oggi. | 26 Abimelech said, "I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, and I have not heard of it until today." |
| 27 Tolse adunque Abraam le pecore e' bovi, e diedele ad Abimelec; e fecero amendui patto. | 27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a covenant. |
| 28 E statuì Abraam sette agnelle, le quali fece stare dall'una parte. | 28 Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock apart. |
| 29 Al quale disse Abimelec: che vuole signi ficare queste sette agnelle, le quali hai fatto stare da parte? | 29 And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs which you have set apart?" |
| 30 Quegli disse: le sette agnelle torrai della mano mia, acciò ch' elle siano in testimonianza a me, ch' io cavai questo pozzo. | 30 He said, "These seven ewe lambs you will take from my hand, that you may be a witness for me that I dug this well." |
| 31 Ed imperciò si è chiamato quello luogo BER SABEA imperciò che quivi ciascuno giurò. | 31 Therefore that place was called Beer-sheba; because there both of them swore an oath. |
| 32 E fecero patto per lo pozzo del giuramento. | 32 So they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. Then Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his army rose up and returned to the land of the Philistines. |
| 33 E levossi Abimelec, e Ficol principe della cavalleria sua, e ritornati sono nella terra de' Palestini. E Abraam piantò lo bosco in Bersabea,chiamò quivi lo nome del Signore Iddio eterno. | 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the Everlasting God. |
| 34 E fu coltivatore della terra de Palestini molti dì. | 34 And Abraham sojourned many days in the land of the Philistines. |
