Joshua 5

1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.	1 Poi ch' ebbero udito tutti i Re degli Amorrei, i quali abitavano di là dal (fiume) Giordano di verso l'occidente (dove tramonta il sole), e tutti i Re di Canaan i quali possedevano d' insino al mare maggiore, che Iddio avesse seccato il fiume Giordano (il corso suo) dinanzi ai figliuoli d' Israel d'insino a tanto che passasseno, venne loro meno il cuore, e non rimase loro punto di spirito, temendo (e avendo paura) nella loro entrata de' figliuoli d' Israel.
2 At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.	2 In quello tempo disse Iddio Signore a Iosuè: fatti coltelli di pietra (aguzzati), e circoncidi un' altra volta i figliuoli d' Israel (nel capo della pelle della verga).
3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.	3 E fece Iosuè quello che Iddio gli avea comandato, e circoncidette (cioè tagliò il nerbo intorno intorno suso) nella pelle della verga loro.
4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.	4 E questa (fu ed) è la cagione della seconda circoncisione; imperciò che tutto il popolo il quale uscì d'Egitto, tutti maschi e tutti combattitori, furono morti nel deserto, per l' andare intorno grande che fecero della via.
5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.	5 I quali tutti erano circoncisi; ma il popolo, il quale nacque nel deserto,
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.	6 nell' andare delli quaranta anni che fecero per l'altissima e spaziosa via del deserto della solitudine, non (era nè) fu circonciso, d'insino a tanto che si consumassono (e morissono) coloro i quali non aveano udita la voce di Dio Signore; i quali avea giurato innanzi che fossono morti, di [non] mostrare loro la terra che mena latte e miele.
7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.	7 I figliuoli di coloro furono in luogo dei loro padri, e furono circoncisi da Iosuè; imperciò che come erano istati nati, così si rimasero senza circoncisione nella via; nè persona niuna gli avea circoncisi.
8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.	8 Ma poi che furono circoncisi, istettono in quello luogo del campo (e dell' oste dove s'erano posti) d'insino che furono sanati (e guariti di quella tagliatura).
9 And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.	9 E disse Iddio a Iosuè: oggi v' hoe levato di dosso l'obbrobrio di quelli d'Egitto. E chiamasi quello luogo GALGALA insino nel presente dì.
10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.	10 E rimasero li figliuoli d' Israel in Galgala, e fecero la Pasqua nel XIIII di del mese, a vespro, nel piano di Gerico.
11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.	11 E mangiarono de' frutti della terra l'altro dì, pani azimi e la farina di quello anno medesimo.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.	12 E venne meno la manna, poi ch' ebbero mangiato delle biade (e de' frutti) della terra; e non usarono poi più di quello cibo (della manna) li figliuoli d' Israel, ma mangiarono delle biade (e de' frutti) dell' anno presente della terra di Canaan.
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?	13 Ed essendo Iosuè nel campo della città di Gerico, levò suso gli occhi, e vide uno uomo il quale istava dirimpetto a lui, e tenea il coltello isguainato; e andando a lui, egli disse: se' tu dei nostri, o de' nemici?
14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?	14 Il quale sì gli respuose, e disse: mai no, ma sono principe dell' oste di Dio Signore, e ora vengo.
15 And the captain of the LORD's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.	15 E gittossi Iosuè chinato giuso in terra, e adorando disse: che favella (e comanda) Iddio mio Signore al servo suo?
	16 E quegli gli disse: isciogli (e tratti) il calzamento de' piedi tuoi; imperciò che il luogo dove tu istai sì è santo. E fece Iosuè sì come gli era stato (detto e) comandato.
