1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.	1 E mandò Iosuè, figliuolo di Nun, di Setim due uomini cercatori e riguardatori nascosamente, e sì disse loro: andate e considerate la terra, e la città di Gerico. I quali andando, sì entrarono in una casa d'una peccatrice, la quale avea nome Raab, e con lei si riposarono.
2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.	2 E fulli detto e rapportato al re di Gerico: ecco che sono uomini entrati qua, di notte, de' figliuoli d' Israel, acciò che vengano e (considerino) la terra.
3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.	3 E mandò il re di Gerico a Raab (meretrice), e sì le disse: caccia (e mena) fuori quelli uomini i quali vennero a te, i quali entrarono in casa tua; imperciò ch' io so che loro vengono a riguardare e a vedere tutta la terra.
4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:	4 E tolse la femina questi uomini, e sì li nascose, e disse: io confesso bene che loro vennero a me, ma io non sapea onde si fossero.
5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.	5 Ma serrandosi la porta la sera al buio, amendue se ne uscirono fuori, e non so dove s'andassero; anzi terrete loro dietro tosto, e sì gli piglierete.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.	6 Ed ella sì gli fece salire in sul palco della casa, e sì gli coprì colli fasci del lino li quali erano quivi.
7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.	7 Ma coloro, i quali erano mandati dal re, sì andarono loro dietro per la via la quale va e riesce al basso del fiume Giordano; e usciti costoro, incontanente fu serrata la porta.
8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;	8 E ancora non aveano dormito costoro i quali istavano nascosti; ed ecco questa femina (peccatrice) salì suso a loro, e disse:
9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.	9 Ecco ch' io conosco (e so), che Iddio v' ha data nelle vostre mani questa terra; imperciò ch' è venuta sopra di noi la grande paura vostra, e tutti gli abitatori di questa terra sono isbigottiti (e venuti meno).
10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.	10 Noi abbiamo udito che Iddio vostro Signore sì seccò l'acqua al mare rosso, quando voi v'entraste dentro, cioè quando voi usciste dello Egitto, e quello che voi faceste ai due re degli Amorrei, i quali erano di là dal (fiume) Giordano, Seon e Og, i quali voi uccideste.
11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.	11 E vedendo noi queste cose, avemmo grande paura, e tutto il cuore nostro si sbigottì, e non rimase in noi punto di spirito, cioè nella vostra entrata; imperciò che Iddio vostro Signore egli sì è veramente Iddio in cielo di sopra, e nella terra di sotto.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:	12 E però giuratemi ora per Dio Signore, che siccome io hoe fatto misericordia con esso voi, così farete voi misericordia nella casa del padre mio; e sì mi date un vostro segno vero,
13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.	13 che farete salvo il padre mio e la madre mia e le sorelle mie e li fratelli miei e tutte le cose che sono loro, e libererete le anime nostre dalla morte.
14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.	14 I quali sì le rispuoseno: sia l'anima nostra in vostro scambio morta, se questo fai che tu non ci tradisca; e poi che Iddio avrà data la terra a noi, faremo teco misericordia e la verità (che noi ti promettiamo).
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.	15 E quella sì gli lasciò, e calogli con una fune dalla finestra; imperciò che la sua casa istava appoggiata al muro della città.
16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.	16 E si disse loro: salite su in verso i monti, acciò che non vi scontrino coloro tornando; e qui istate tre dì, insino a tanto che tornino; e poi ve n' anderete per la via vostra.
17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.	17 I quali sì le dissero: noi saremo senza colpa (e iscusati) di questo sacramento, che ci hai fatto giurare.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.	18 Che se, entrati noi nella terra, non sarà segno di questo funicello rosso, e non l'avrai legato alla finestra per la quale tu ci campasti e calasti giuso, e se il padre tuo e la madre tua e' tuoi fratelli e tutto quanto il tuo parentado, in casa tua non averai congregato;
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.	19 chi sarà uscito fuori dell' uscio tuo, il suo sangue sarà (uscito) sopra il capo suo, e noi saremo senza colpa e innocenti; ma del sangue di tutti coloro che saranno in casa tua, sì tornerà sopra il capo nostro, se sarà persona che gli tocchi.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.	20 Ma se tu ci vorrai mettere nelle mani di coloro e tradirci, noi saremo netti (e innocenti) di questo giuramento che ci hai fatto giurare.
21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.	21 E quella respuose e disse: come voi avete detto così sia fatto. E lasciandogli che si partisseno, appiccò lo funicolo rosso alla finestra.
22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.	22 E andando costoro per la via loro, sì vennero alli monti; quivi istettero tre dì, insino a tanto che sono tornati coloro che sono iti dietro per pigliarli; onde cercando per ogni via, non li poterono trovare.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:	23 E tornati costoro alla cittade, ed entrati dentro, scesono questi il piè del monte; e passarono il (fiume) Giordano, e vennero a Iosuè figliuolo di Nun, e sì gli contarono tutte quelle cose le quali erano loro intervenute.
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.	24 E poi sì gli dissero: Iddio nostro Signore ci ha dato nelle nostre mani tutta questa terra, e sono atterrati di paura tutti quegli i quali v' àbitano.
