1 Hear me your father, O children, and do thereafter, that ye may be safe.	1 Enfants, écoutez-moi, votre père vous parle! Suivez mes avis et vous serez sauvés.
2 For the Lord hath given the father honour over the children, and hath confirmed the authority of the mother over the sons.	2 Car le Seigneur a voulu que les enfants respectent leur père, il a établi l’autorité de la mère sur ses fils.
3 Whoso honoureth his father maketh an atonement for his sins:	3 Qui respecte son père obtient le pardon de ses péchés;
4 And he that honoureth his mother is as one that layeth up treasure.	4 qui honore sa mère se prépare un trésor.
5 Whoso honoureth his father shall have joy of his own children; and when he maketh his prayer, he shall be heard.	5 Celui qui respecte son père, ses propres enfants feront sa joie; le jour où il demandera, le Seigneur l’exaucera.
6 He that honoureth his father shall have a long life; and he that is obedient unto the Lord shall be a comfort to his mother.	6 Celui qui honore son père aura longue vie; qui obéit au Seigneur sera la consolation de sa mère.
7 He that feareth the Lord will honour his father, and will do service unto his parents, as to his masters.	7 Il servira ceux qui lui ont donné la vie comme il servirait le Seigneur.
8 Honour thy father and mother both in word and deed, that a blessing may come upon thee from them.	8 Agis ainsi, honore ton père en paroles et en actes, et sa bénédiction se réalisera pour ton bien.
9 For the blessing of the father establisheth the houses of children; but the curse of the mother rooteth out foundations.	9 Car la bénédiction d’un père affermit la maison de ses enfants, mais la malédiction d’une mère la détruit jusqu’aux fondements.
10 Glory not in the dishonour of thy father; for thy father's dishonour is no glory unto thee.	10 Ne te réjouis pas du déshonneur de ton père: sa honte ne sera jamais ta gloire.
11 For the glory of a man is from the honour of his father; and a mother in dishonour is a reproach to the children.	11 L’honneur d’un homme dépend de la réputation de son père; lorsqu’une mère a mérité le mépris, ses enfants sont déshonorés.
12 My son, help thy father in his age, and grieve him not as long as he liveth.	12 Mon enfant, prends soin de ton père lorsqu’il sera devenu vieux; aussi longtemps qu’il vivra, ne lui cause pas de peine.
13 And if his understanding fail, have patience with him; and despise him not when thou art in thy full strength.	13 Si son esprit s’affaiblit, supporte-le; ne le méprise pas parce que tu te sens en pleine force.
14 For the relieving of thy father shall not be forgotten: and instead of sins it shall be added to build thee up.	14 Le bien que tu auras fait à ton père ne sera pas oublié, il te sera compté comme une réparation de tes péchés.
15 In the day of thine affliction it shall be remembered; thy sins also shall melt away, as the ice in the fair warm weather.	15 Au temps de l’adversité on s’en souviendra en ta faveur, et tes péchés fondront comme glace au soleil.
16 He that forsaketh his father is as a blasphemer; and he that angereth his mother is cursed: of God.	16 Abandonner son père, c’est comme insulter le Seigneur; le Seigneur maudit celui qui a fait le malheur de sa mère.
17 My son, go on with thy business in meekness; so shalt thou be beloved of him that is approved.	17 Mon enfant, agis en tout avec tact, et tu seras aimé des amis de Dieu.
18 The greater thou art, the more humble thyself, and thou shalt find favour before the Lord.	18 Plus tu es grand, plus tu dois t’abaisser: c’est ainsi que tu obtiendras la bienveillance du Seigneur.
19 Many are in high place, and of renown: but mysteries are revealed unto the meek.	19 NO TEXT
20 For the power of the Lord is great, and he is honoured of the lowly.	20 Car si quelqu’un est vraiment puissant, c’est le Seigneur, et ce sont les humbles qui l’honorent.
21 Seek not out things that are too hard for thee, neither search the things that are above thy strength.	21 N’aspire pas à ce qui dépasse tes forces, ne te lance pas dans une recherche qui passe tes capacités.
22 But what is commanded thee, think thereupon with reverence, for it is not needful for thee to see with thine eyes the things that are in secret.	22 Approfondis ce qui t’a été commandé, tu n’as aucune nécessité de connaître les mystères cachés.
23 Be not curious in unnecessary matters: for more things are shewed unto thee than men understand.	23 Ne te fatigue pas à résoudre des questions inutiles, le savoir qui t’a été remis dépasse déjà ce qu’un humain peut comprendre.
24 For many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion hath overthrown their judgment.	24 Pense que beaucoup se sont égarés avec leurs théories, leur assurance mal fondée leur a faussé le raisonnement.
25 Without eyes thou shalt want light: profess not the knowledge therefore that thou hast not.	25 NO TEXT
26 A stubborn heart shall fare evil at the last; and he that loveth danger shall perish therein.	26 Un obstiné terminera sur un échec, celui qui aime le danger y laissera sa vie.
27 An obstinate heart shall be laden with sorrows; and the wicked man shall heap sin upon sin.	27 L’obstiné sera accablé d’épreuves; pécheur endurci, il accumule péchés sur péchés.
28 In the punishment of the proud there is no remedy; for the plant of wickedness hath taken root in him.	28 Il n’y a pas de remède à la misère de l’orgueilleux: le mal a pris racine en lui.
29 The heart of the prudent will understand a parable; and an attentive ear is the desire of a wise man.	29 L’homme sage médite les maximes en son cœur; trouver quelqu’un qui l’écoute, c’est là tout le désir du sage.
30 Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.	30 L’eau éteint les flammes du feu; l’aumône efface les péchés.
31 And he that requiteth good turns is mindful of that which may come hereafter; and when he falleth, he shall find a stay.	31 Celui qui répond de façon généreuse prépare son avenir: sur le point de tomber il trouvera un soutien.
