1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.	1 Alors Joseph se jeta sur le visage de son père et le couvrit de larmes et de baisers.
2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.	2 Ensuite Joseph ordonna aux médecins qui étaient à son service d’embaumer son père, et les médecins embaumèrent Israël.
3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.	3 Cela dura quarante jours, car tel est le temps nécessaire pour l’embaumement. Puis les Égyptiens le pleurèrent soixante-dix jours.
4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,	4 Lorsque les jours de deuil furent passés, Joseph adressa cette demande à l’entourage du Pharaon: “Si j’ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, parlez donc au Pharaon de ma part.
5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.	5 Au moment de mourir, mon père m’a fait jurer de l’enterrer dans le tombeau qu’il s’est creusé au pays de Canaan. À présent donc, dites-lui qu’il me laisse y aller pour enterrer mon père et ensuite je reviendrai.”
6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.	6 Pharaon répondit: “Va et enterre ton père, comme il te l’a fait jurer!”
7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,	7 Joseph partit donc pour enterrer son père, et avec lui partirent tous les serviteurs du Pharaon, les anciens de sa maison et tous les anciens d’Égypte,
8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.	8 toute la maison de Joseph, ses frères et la maison de son père. Ils ne laissèrent au pays de Gossen que leurs petits enfants, leur petit et leur gros bétail.
9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.	9 Des chars et des cavaliers montèrent avec lui, c’était une énorme caravane!
10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.	10 Quand ils arrivèrent à l’Aire-de-l’Épine qui est au-delà du Jourdain, ils firent le deuil en grand, et Joseph fit encore sept jours de deuil pour son père.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.	11 Les habitants du pays, les Cananéens, virent le deuil à l’Aire-de-l’Épine: “C’est un deuil solennel des Égyptiens”, dirent-ils. C’est pourquoi on appela ce lieu du nom d’Abel-Misraïm (ce qui veut dire: Deuil pour l’Égypte): il se trouve au-delà du Jourdain.
12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:	12 Les fils de Jacob accomplirent tout ce qu’il leur avait commandé.
13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.	13 Ils le transportèrent au pays de Canaan et l’enterrèrent dans la grotte du champ de Makpéla, le champ qu’Abraham avait acheté à Éfron le Hittite, comme tombeau personnel en face de Mambré.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.	14 Après l’enterrement, Joseph retourna en Égypte avec ses frères et tous ceux qui étaient venus avec lui pour enterrer son père.
15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.	15 Quand les frères de Joseph virent que leur père était mort, ils se dirent: “Si jamais Joseph nous prenait en haine et voulait nous rendre maintenant tout le mal que nous lui avons fait!”
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,	16 Aussi envoyèrent-ils quelqu’un dire à Joseph: “Ton père avant sa mort nous a donné cet avis:
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.	17 Voici ce que vous direz à Joseph: Je t’en prie, pardonne le crime de tes frères et le péché qu’ils ont commis quand ils t’ont fait du mal. Pardonne donc cette faute aux serviteurs du Dieu de ton père!” Joseph pleura quand on lui rapporta ces paroles.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.	18 Ses frères allèrent se jeter à ses pieds et lui dirent: “Voici que nous sommes tes esclaves!”
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?	19 Mais Joseph leur répondit: “N’ayez pas peur! Est-ce que je suis à la place de Dieu?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.	20 Vous avez cherché à me faire du mal, mais Dieu a changé ce mal en bien, pour en arriver à ce que vous voyez aujourd’hui: donner la vie à une multitude.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.	21 Maintenant donc n’ayez pas peur, je vous donnerai à manger, à vous et à vos petits enfants.” Puis il les consola et leur parla du fond du cœur.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.	22 Joseph resta en Égypte, lui et la famille de son père. Joseph vécut jusqu’à l’âge de 110 ans.
23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.	23 Joseph vit naître les arrière-petits-enfants d’Éphraïm et il adopta les fils de Makir, fils de Manassé.
24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.	24 Joseph dit alors à ses frères: “Je vais mourir, mais Dieu vous visitera. Il vous fera remonter de ce pays vers le pays qu’il a promis par serment à Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.”
25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.	25 Joseph fit alors prêter serment aux fils d’Israël: “Quand Dieu vous aura visités, leur dit-il, vous ferez remonter mes ossements d’Égypte.”
26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.	26 Joseph mourut à l’âge de 110 ans. On l’embauma, puis on le mit dans un cercueil en Égypte.
