1 And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him.	1 E fatto è che in uno sabbato, entrando Iesù in casa di uno principe de' Farisei a mangiare il pane, coloro ch' erano quivi ponevano mente a quello che Iesù faceva.
2 And behold, there was a certain man before him that had the dropsy.	2 Ed ecco, uno uomo idropico gli venne dinanzi.
3 And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?	3 E Iesù rispose (alli loro iniqui pensieri e) alli savii della legge e Farisei: è lecito a curare il sabbato?
4 But they held their peace. But he taking him, healed him, and sent him away.	4 Ed egli tacettero. E allora egli prese l' idropico, e sanollo, e lasciollo andare.
5 And answering them, he said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out, on the sabbath day?	5 E poi rispose a coloro, e disse: qual è di voi, che avesse uno asino o uno bove, e cadesse in una fossa, ch' egli non cavasse fuora incontinente nel giorno del sabbato?
6 And they could not answer him to these things.	6 Ed egli non gli poterono rispondere.
7 And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:	7 Allora disse Iesù questa parabola a coloro ch' erano invitati, riguardando a coloro che vogliono pigliare gli primi luoghi delle mense, e diceva a loro:
8 When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him:	8 Quando sarai invitato alle nozze, non ti ponere ne' primi luoghi; chè se fosse invitato uno che fosse da più onore di te e migliore,
9 And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.	9 venendo egli, non ti sia poi detto da quelli che hanno invitato te e lui: dà questo luogo a costui; e tu con tua vergogna vadi poi a stare nel luogo infimo.
10 But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee.	10 E imperò, quando tu sei invitato, va e siedi nell' ultimo luogo (di sotto); sì che, venendo colui che ti ha invitato, ti dica: amico, va e sta di sopra. E allora ti sarà gloria dinanzi a tutti gli uomini invitati.
11 Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.	11 Imperò che qualunque si esalta, sarà umiliato; e qualunque si umilia, sarà esaltato.
12 And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee.	12 E diceva a cui l'avea invitato: quando tu fai desinare, ovvero cena, non volere chiamare l'amico tuo ovvero fratello ovvero cognato, nè etiam gli vicini ricchi, acciò forse loro non ti reinvitino e a te sia retribuito.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind;	13 Ma quando fai il convito, chiama li poveri e gli deboli, li zoppi e gli ciechi.
14 And thou shalt be blessed, because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense: for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just.	14 E sarai beato, conciosia che loro non hanno da retribuirti; ma saratti retribuito nella resurrezione de' giusti.
15 When one of them that sat at table with him, had heard these things, he said to him: Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.	15 E udendolo uno di quelli che sedevano insieme a mensa nel convito, dissegli: beato quel che manuca il pane nel regno di Dio.
16 But he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many.	16 Ed egli disse a quello: fu uno uomo che fece una cena, e invitò molta gente.
17 And he sent his servant at the hour of supper to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready.	17 E all' ora della cena mandò il servò suo per coloro ch' erano invitati, che venissero, imperò che ogni cosa era apparecchiata.
18 And they began all at once to make excuse. The first said to him: I have bought a farm, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee, hold me excused.	18 E tutti quelli invitati si incominciarono a scusarsi. El primo disse: io ho comperato una possessione, e io ho bisogno andare; imperò pregoti che tu mi abbi escusato.
19 And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, hold me excused.	19 E l'altro disse: io ho comprato cinque para di buoi; voglio andare a provargli; pregoti che mi abbi per iscusato.
20 And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.	20 E l'altro disse: io ho menato mogliere, e imperò non posso venire.
21 And the servant returning, told these things to his lord. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame.	21 E il servo tornò, e disse queste risposte al signore suo. Allora il padre della famiglia adirossi, e disse al servo suo; va tosto in piazza e (cerca) per tutti gli borghi della città, e mena teco tutti quanti e poveri e ciechi, zoppi e deboli.
22 And the servant said: Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.	22 E il servo disse: fatto sarà quello che hai comandato. E fatto che fu, disse il servo al signore suo signore, anche vi avanza luoghi (che sono vòti).
23 And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.	23 E il signore suo disse: va per le vie e per le piazze, (e tanto che meni) eziandio sforzandogli, sì che la casa si empia.
24 But I say unto you, that none of those men that were invited, shall taste of my supper.	24 E in verità vi dico, che niuno degli uomini ch' erano invitati, non gustaranno della mia cena.
25 And there went great multitudes with him. And turning, he said to them:	25 Andavano adunque molte genti con quello; e tornato disse a quelli:
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.	26 Se alcuno viene a me, e non odia il padre e la madre sua, mogliere e figliuoli, fratelli e sorelle e anche l'anima sua, non può essere mio discepolo.
27 And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.	27 E chi non toglie la croce sua e sèguita me, non è di me degno.
28 For which of you having a mind to build a tower, doth not first sit down, and reckon the charges that are necessary, whether he have wherewithal to finish it:	28 E qual è di voi, che volesse edificare una torre, che in prima non pensasse e facesse ragione dell' opere che vi son bisogno, e se egli ha da poterla compire,
29 Lest, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able ti finish it, all that see it begin to mock him,	29 acciò che, poscia che avesse principiato il fondamento, e non la potesse compire, chiunque la vedesse incominciata, ed egli non seguisse, schernirebbelo,
30 Saying: This man began to build, and was not able to finish.	30 dicendo questo uomo incominciò a edificare, e non ha potuto compire?
31 Or what king, about to go to make war against another king, doth not first sit down, and think whether he be able, with ten thousand, to meet him that, with twenty thousand, cometh against him?	31 Ovvero qual è quello re che abbia a combattere con uno altro re, e non si debba egli inanzi molto bene avvisare (e antivedere), se egli può con diecimilia farsi in contra a colui che n'ha ventimilia, che viene contra lui?
32 Or else, whilst the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace.	32 Certo, essendo quelli ancora da lungi, mandaragli li ambasciatori, (invitandolo e) pregandolo di pace.
33 So likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth, cannot be my disciple.	33 Così ciascuno di voi, il quale non renunzia a tutte quelle cose che possiede, non può essere mio discepolo.
34 Salt is good. But if the salt shall lose its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?	34 Egli è buono il sale; ma se etiam squagliarassi il sale, in che si salerà?
35 It is neither profitable for the land nor for the dunghill, but shall be cast out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.	35 Egli non è utile in terra, e ne' luoghi immondi; ma gitterassi fuori. Chi ha orecchie da udire, oda.
