1 And again he began to teach by the sea side; and a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went up into a ship, and sat in the sea; and all the multitude was upon the land by the sea side.	1 - Gesù si mise di nuovo a insegnare lungo il mare; e intorno a lui si radunò tanta folla che egli, montato in una barca, vi sedette stando in mare, mentre tutta la folla era a terra, lungo la riva.
2 And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his doctrine:	2 E andava insegnando a loro molte cose per mezzo di parabole e ammaestrandoli diceva loro:
3 Hear ye: Behold, the sower went out to sow.	3 «Udite: Ecco, il seminatore uscì a seminare.
4 And whilst he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate it up.	4 E mentre gettava la semente, parte cadde lungo la strada e vennero gli uccelli e la beccarono.
5 And other some fell upon stony ground, where it had not much earth; and it shot up immediately, because it had no depth of earth.	5 Un'altra cadde in un suolo sassoso, ove non c'era molta terra, e subito spuntò essendo il terreno poco profondo,
6 And when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.	6 ma poi levatosi il sole riarse la terra e siccome il seme non aveva radici, si seccò.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.	7 Un'altra parte cadde tra le spine, le quali crebbero e la soffocarono, sicchè non diede frutto.
8 And some fell upon good ground; and brought forth fruit that grew up, and increased and yielded, one thirty, another sixty, and another a hundred.	8 Altra parte cadde in buon terreno e diede frutto che crebbe rigoglioso e rese dove il trenta dove il sessanta e dove il cento per uno».
9 And he said: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.	9 E diceva: «Chi ha orecchi da udire, oda».
10 And when he was alone, the twelve that were with him asked him the parable.	10 Quand'egli fu solo, i Dodici che gli stavan d'intorno lo interrogarono circa la parabola.
11 And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables:	11 Egli disse loro: «A voi è dato conoscere il mistero del regno di Dio, ma a quelli che son di fuori tutto è annunciato in parabole,
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand: lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.	12 affinchè: "Vedendo vedano e non discernano e udendo odano e non capiscano, onde non avvenga che si convertano e ottengano il perdono dei loro peccati"».
13 And he saith to them: Are you ignorant of this parable? and how shall you know all parables?	13 Poi disse loro: «Non intendete questa parabola? Come dunque intenderete tutte le parabole?
14 He that soweth, soweth the word.	14 Il seminatore semina la parola.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown, and as soon as they have heard, immediately Satan cometh and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.	15 Quei che sono lungo la strada, ove è seminata la parola, son coloro che appena l'hanno udita, vien Satana e porta via la parola seminata in loro.
16 And these likewise are they that are sown on the stony ground: who when they have heard the word, immediately recieve it with joy.	16 E parimenti quei che ricevono la semente in luogo sassoso, son coloro che, quand'hanno udito la parola, l'accolgono subito con gioia,
17 And they have no root in themselves, but are only for a time: and then when tribulation and persecution ariseth for the word they are presently scandalized.	17 però non hanno in sè radice e sono incostanti e quando a causa della parola viene la tribolazione e la persecuzione subito si scandalizzano.
18 And others there are who are sown among thorns: these are they that hear the word,	18 Quei che ricevono il seme tra le spine, son coloro che ascoltano la parola;
19 And the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts after other things entering in choke the word, and it is made fruitless.	19 ma poi sottentrando le sollecitudini del mondo, i disinganni delle ricchezze e le cupidigie per l'altre cose, soffocano la parola ed essa non dà frutto.
20 And these are they who are sown upon the good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and yield fruit, the one thirty, another sixty, and another a hundred.	20 Infine quelli nei quali la semente cade in buon terreno sono coloro che sentono la parola e la ricevono e producono frutto, chi trenta, chi sessanta e chi cento per uno».
21 And he said to them: Doth a candle come in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?	21 Poi disse ancora: «Si porta forse la lucerna per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? o non piuttosto per metterla sul candelabro?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be made manifest: neither was it made secret, but that it may come abroad.	22 Perchè non vi è nulla di nascosto che non debba essere manifestato e nulla vi è segreto che non sia poi messo in luce.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.	23 Se uno ha orecchi da udire, oda».
24 And he said to them: Take heed what you hear. In what measure you shall mete, it shall be measured to you again, and more shall be given to you.	24 Disse ancora: «Fate attenzione a quel che udite. Con la misura con la quale avrete misurato vi sarà largamente misurato.
25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, that also which he hath shall be taken away from him.	25 Poichè a chi ha, sarà dato e a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha».
26 And he said: So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the earth,	26 Disse ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getta il seme in terra
27 And should sleep, and rise, night and day, and the seed should spring, and grow up whilst he knoweth not.	27 e va a dormire la notte e si leva il giorno, intanto che il seme germoglia e cresce senza che lui sappia come.
28 For the earth of itself bringeth forth fruit, first the blade, then the ear, afterwards the full corn in the ear.	28 Perchè la terra produce da se stessa il frutto; prima l'erba, poi la spiga, poi il grano nella spiga ben guarnita.
29 And when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.	29 E quando il frutto matura, subito vi mette dentro la falce, perchè è venuto il tempo della mietitura».
30 And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or to what parable shall we compare it?	30 E disse ancora: «A che cosa paragoneremo il regno di Dio? o con quale paragone lo figureremo?
31 It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:	31 Esso è simile a un granello di senapa, il quale, quando si semina in terra, è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra,
32 And when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches, so that the birds of the air may dwell under the shadow thereof.	32 ma, seminato che sia, cresce e diventa più grande di tutti gli erbaggi e fa dei rami così grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono ripararsi alla sua ombra».
33 And with many such parables, he spoke to them the word, according as they were able to hear.	33 E con molte di queste parabole si rivolgeva ad essi a misura che erano in grado di intendere.
34 And without parable he did not speak unto them; but apart, he explained all things to his disciples.	34 E non parlava loro senza parabole, ma in privato spiegava ogni cosa a' suoi discepoli.
35 And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side.	35 Calata la sera di quel giorno, disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva».
36 And sending away the multitude, they take him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him.	36 Ed essi, congedata la moltitudine, lo presero così com'era, nella barca; e altre barche gli si accompagnavano.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that the ship was filled.	37 Ed ecco levarsi un gran impeto di vento, che spingeva l'onda nella barca tanto che questa già si riempiva.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleeping upon a pillow; and they awake him, and say to him: Master, doth it not concern thee that we perish?	38 Egli tuttavia dormiva a poppa, appoggiato il capo ad un origliere. Essi lo scuotono e gli dicono: «Maestro, non t'importa della nostra rovina?».
39 And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm.	39 Egli, svegliatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci! Calmati!». E cessò il vento e si fece una gran calma.
40 And he said to them: Why are you fearful? have you not faith yet? And they feared exceedingly: and they said one to another: Who is this (thinkest thou) that both wind and sea obey him?	40 E disse loro: «Perchè siete così paurosi? Non avete ancora fiducia?». Ed essi furono còlti da gran timore e dicevano tra di loro: «Chi è mai quest'uomo a cui anche il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?».
