Sirach 13

1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.	1 El que toca la pez, se mancha, el que convive con el orgulloso, se hará como él.
2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.	2 No tomes sobre ti carga pesada, con el más fuerte y rico que tú no convivas. ¿Por qué juntar cántaro con caldero? Este le chocará y aquél se romperá.
3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.	3 El rico agravia y encima se envalentona, el pobre es agraviado y encima ha de excusarse.
4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.	4 Si le eres útil, se servirá de ti, si eres torpe, te abandonará.
5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.	5 Si tienes algo, vivirá contigo, y te despojará sin fatigarse él.
6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.	6 ¿Ha menester de ti? Tratará de engañarte, te sonreirá y te dará esperanzas; buenas palabras te dará y dirá: «¿Qué te hace falta?»
7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?	7 Te avergonzará en sus festines, hasta despojarte dos, tres veces, y para terminar se burlará de ti. Después, si te ve, te dejará a un lado, y meneará la cabeza ante ti.
8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.	8 Guárdate de dejarte engañar, y de ser humillado por estúpido.
9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.	9 Cuando te llame un poderoso, quédate a distancia, que tanto más te llamará.
10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.	10 No te presentes por ti mismo, no sea que te rechace, ni te quedes muy lejos, para no pasar inadvertido.
11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.	11 No pretendas hablar con él de igual a igual, ni te fíes de sus muchas palabras. Que con su mucho hablar te pondrá a prueba, como quien pasa el rato, te examinará.
12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.	12 Despiadado es quien no guarda tus palabras, no te ahorrará ni golpes ni cadenas.
13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.	13 Observa y ponte bien en guardia, porque caminas junto a tu propia ruina.
14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.
15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.	15 Todo viviente ama a su semejante, y todo hombre a su prójimo.
16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.	16 Todo animal según su especie se une, a su semejante se adhiere el hombre.
17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.	17 ¿Cómo podrá convivir lobo con cordero? Así el pecador con el piadoso.
18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.	18 ¿Qué paz puede tener la hiena con el perro? ¿qué paz el rico con el indigente?
19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.	19 Caza de leones son los onagros en el desierto, así los pobres son presa de los ricos.
20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.	20 Abonimación para el orgulloso es la humilidad, así para el rico es abominación el pobre.
21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.	21 El rico que vacila es sostenido por sus amigos, al humilde que cae sus amigos le rechazan.
22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?	22 Cuando el rico resbala, muchos le toman en sus brazos, dice estupideces, y le justifican; resbala el humilde, y se le hacen reproches, dice cosas sensatas, y no se le hace caso.
23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.	23 Habla el rico, y todos se callan, y exaltan su palabra hasta las nubes. Habla el pobre y dicen: «¿Quién es éste?» y si se equivoca, se le echa por tierra.
24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.	24 Buena es la riqueza en la que no hay pecado, mala la pobreza al decir del impío.
25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.	25 El corazón del hombre modela su rostro tanto hacia el bien como hacia el mal.
26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.	26 Signo de un corazón dichoso es un rostro alegre, la invención de proverbios es penoso ejercicio.
27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
