EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ¿De dónde provienen las luchas y las querellas que hay entre ustedes? ¿No es precisamente de las pasiones que combaten en sus mismos miembros?	1 Where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start? Is it not precisely in the desiresfighting inside your own selves?
2 Ustedes ambicionan, y si no consiguen lo que desean, matan; envidian, y al no alcanzar lo que pretenden, combaten y se hacen la guerra. Ustedes no tienen, porque no piden.	2 You want something and you lack it; so you kil . You have an ambition that you cannot satisfy; so youfight to get your way by force. It is because you do not pray that you do not receive;
3 O bien, piden y no reciben, porque piden mal, con el único fin de satisfacer sus pasiones.	3 when you do pray and do not receive, it is because you prayed wrongly, wanting to indulge yourpassions.
4 ¡Corazones adúlteros! ¿No saben acaso que haciéndose amigos del mundo se hacen enemigos de Dios? Porque el que quiere ser amigo del mundo se hace enemigo de Dios.	4 Adulterers! Do you not realise that love for the world is hatred for God? Anyone who chooses the worldfor a friend is constituted an enemy of God.
5 No piensen que la Escritura afirma en vano: El alma que Dios puso en nosotros está llena de deseos envidiosos.	5 Can you not see the point of the saying in scripture, 'The longing of the spirit he sent to dwel in us is ajealous longing.'?
6 Pero él nos da una gracia más grande todavía, según la palabra de la Escritura que dice: Dios resiste a los soberbios y da su gracia a los humildes.	6 But he has given us an even greater grace, as scripture says: God opposes the proud but he accordshis favour to the humble.
7 Sométanse a Dios; resistan al demonio, y él se alejará de ustedes.	7 Give in to God, then; resist the devil, and he wil run away from you.
8 Acérquense a Dios y él se acercará a ustedes. Que los pecadores purifiquen sus manos; que se santifiquen los que tienen el corazón dividido.	8 The nearer you go to God, the nearer God wil come to you. Clean your hands, you sinners, and clearyour minds, you waverers.
9 Reconozcan su miseria con dolor y con lágrimas. Que la alegría de ustedes se transforme en llanto, y el gozo, en tristeza.	9 Appreciate your wretchedness, and weep for it in misery. Your laughter must be turned to grief, yourhappiness to gloom.
10 Humíllense delante del Señor, y él los exaltará.	10 Humble yourselves before the Lord and he wil lift you up.
11 Hermanos, no hablen mal los unos de los otros. El que habla en contra de un hermano o lo condena, habla en contra de la Ley y la condena. Ahora bien, si tú condenas la Ley, no eres cumplidor de la Ley, sino juez de la misma.	11 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who slanders a brother, or condemns one, is speakingagainst the Law and condemning the Law. But if you condemn the Law, you have ceased to be subject to it andbecome a judge over it.
12 Y no hay más que un solo legislador y juez, aquel que tiene el poder de salvar o de condenar. ¿Quién eres tú para condenar al prójimo?	12 There is only one lawgiver and he is the only judge and has the power to save or to destroy. Who areyou to give a verdict on your neighbour?
13 Y ustedes, los que ahora dicen: «Hoy o mañana iremos a tal ciudad y nos quedaremos allí todo el año, haremos negocio y ganaremos dinero»,	13 Wel now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow, we are off to this or that town; we are going to spend ayear there, trading, and make some money.'
14 ¿saben acaso qué les pasará mañana? Por su vida es como el humo, que aparece un momento y luego se disipa.	14 You never know what wil happen tomorrow: you are no more than a mist that appears for a little whileand then disappears.
15 Digan más bien: «Si Dios quiere, viviremos y haremos esto o aquello».	15 Instead of this, you should say, 'If it is the Lord's wil , we shal stil be alive to do this or that.'
16 Ustedes, en cambio, se glorían presuntuosamente, y esa jactancia es mala.	16 But as it is, how boastful and loud -- mouthed you are! Boasting of this kind is always wrong.
17 El que sabe hacer el bien y no lo hace, comete pecado.	17 Everyone who knows what is the right thing to do and does not do it commits a sin.
