1 Simón, hijo de Onías, fue el sumo sacerdote que en su vida reparó la Casa, y en sus días fortificó el santuario.	1 The greatest among his brethren, the glory of his people, was SIMON the priest, son of Jochanan, In whose time the house of God was renovated, in whose days the temple was reinforced.
2 El echó los cimientos de la altura doble, del alto contrafuerte de la cerca del Templo.	2 In his time also the wall was built with powerful turrets for the temple precincts;
3 En sus días fue excavado el depósito de agua, un estanque como el mar de ancho.	3 In his time the reservoir was dug, the pool with a vastness like the sea's.
4 El cuidó de su pueblo para evitar su ruina y fortificó la ciudad contra el asedio.	4 He protected his people against brigands and strengthened his city against the enemy.
5 ¡Que glorioso era, rodeado de su pueblo, cuando salía de la casa del velo!	5 How splendid he was as he appeared from the tent, as he came from within the veil!
6 Como el lucero del alba en medio de las nubes, como la luna llena,	6 Like a star shining among the clouds, like the full moon at the holyday season;
7 como el sol que brilla sobre el Templo del Altísimo, como el arco iris que ilumina las nubes de gloria,	7 Like the sun shining upon the temple, like the rainbow appearing in the cloudy sky;
8 como flor del rosal en primavera, como lirio junto a un manantial, como brote del Líbano en verano,	8 Like the blossoms on the branches in springtime, like a lily on the banks of a stream; Like the trees of Lebanon in summer,
9 como fuego e incienso en el incensario, como vaso de oro macizo adornado de toda clase de piedras preciosas,	9 like the fire of incense at the sacrifice; Like a vessel of beaten gold, studded with precious stones;
10 como olivo floreciente de frutos, como ciprés que se eleva hasta las nubes.	10 Like a luxuriant olive tree thick with fruit, like a cypress standing against the clouds;
11 Cuando se ponía la vestidura de gala y se vestía sus elegantes ornamentos, al subir al santo altar, llenaba de gloria el recinto del santuario.	11 Vested in his magnificent robes, and wearing his garments of splendor, As he ascended the glorious altar and lent majesty to the court of the sanctuary.
12 Y cuando recibía las porciones de manos de los sacerdotes, él mismo de pie junto al hogar del altar, y en torno a él la corona de sus hermanos, como brotes de cedros en el Líbano; le rodeaban como tallos de palmera	12 When he received the sundered victims from the priests while he stood before the sacrificial wood, His brethren ringed him about like a garland, like a stand of cedars on Lebanon;
13 todos los hijos de Aarón en su esplendor, con la ofrenda del Señor en sus manos, en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel.	13 All the sons of Aaron in their dignity clustered around him like poplars, With the offerings to the LORD in their hands, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel.
14 Y cuando cumplía el ministerio de los altares ordenando la ofrenda del Altísimo Todopoderoso,	14 Once he had completed the services at the altar with the arranging of the sacrifices for the Most High,
15 alargaba su mano a la copa, hacía la libación del jugo de racimo, y lo derramaba al pie del altar, como calmante aroma al Altísimo Rey universal.	15 And had stretched forth his hand for the cup, to offer blood of the grape, And poured it out at the foot of the altar, a sweet-smelling odor to the Most High God,
16 Entonces prorrumpían en gritos los hijos de Aarón, tocaban con sus trompetas de metal batido, hacían oír su sonido imponente, como memorial delante del Altísimo.	16 The sons of Aaron would sound a blast, the priests, on their trumpets of beaten metal; A blast to resound mightily as a reminder before the Most High.
17 Todo el pueblo entonces de repente, en masa, caía rostro en tierra, para adorar a su Señor, al Todopoderoso, Dios Altísimo.	17 Then all the people with one accord would quickly fall prostrate to the ground In adoration before the Most High, before the Holy One of Israel.
18 Y los salmistas también le alababan con sus voces, el son vibrante formaba una dulce melodía.	18 Then hymns would re-echo, and over the throng sweet strains of praise resound.
19 Y suplicaba el pueblo al Señor Altísimo, orando ante el Misericordioso, hasta que terminaba la ceremonia del Señor y concluía su liturgia.	19 All the people of the land would shout for joy, praying to the Merciful One, As the high priest completed the services at the altar by presenting to God the sacrifice due;
20 Entonces bajaba y elevaba sus manos sobre toda la asamblea de los hijos de Israel, para dar con sus labios la bendición del Señor y tener el honor de pronunciar su nombre.	20 Then coming down he would raise his hands over all the congregation of Israel. The blessing of the LORD would be upon his lips, the name of the LORD would be his glory.
21 Y por segunda vez todos se postraban para recibir la bendición del Altísimo.	21 Then again the people would lie prostrate to receive from him the blessing of the Most High.
22 Y ahora bendecid al Dios del universo, el que por todas partes hace grandes cosas, el que exaltó nuestros días desde el seno materno, y que nos trata según su misericordia.	22 And now, bless the God of all, who has done wondrous things on earth; Who fosters men's growth from their mother's womb, and fashions them according to his will!
23 Que nos dé contento de corazón, y que haya paz en nuestros días en Israel por los siglos de los siglos.	23 May he grant you joy of heart and may peace abide among you;
24 Que su misericordia sea fiel con nosotros y en nuestros días nos rescate.	24 May his goodness toward us endure in Israel as long as the heavens are above.
25 Hay dos naciones que mi alma detesta, y la tercera ni siquiera es nación:	25 My whole being loathes two nations, the third is not even a people:
26 los habitantes de la montaña de Seír, los filisteos y el pueblo necio que mora en Siquem.	26 Those who live in Seir and Philistia, and the degenerate folk who dwell in Shechem.
27 Instrucción de inteligencia y ciencia ha grabado en este libro Jesús, hijo de Sirá, Eleazar, de Jerusalén, que vertió de su corazón sabiduría a raudales.	27 Wise instruction, appropriate proverbs, I have written in this book, I, Jesus, son of Eleazar, son of Sirach, as they gushed forth from my heart's understanding.
28 Feliz quien repase esto a menudo; el que lo ponga en su corazón se hará sabio.	28 Happy the man who meditates upon these things, wise the man who takes them to heart!
29 Y si lo practica, para todo será fuerte, porque la huella que sigue es la luz del Señor.	29 If he puts them into practice, he can cope with anything, for the fear of the LORD is his lamp.
