1 Entonces Tobías respondió a su padre Tobit: «Haré cuanto me has mandado, padre.	1 Tobias then answered and said, Father, I will do all things which thou hast commanded me:
2 Pero ¿cómo podré recuperar el depósito? Ni él me conoce a mí ni yo a él. ¿Qué señal debo darle para que me reconozca, me crea y me devuelva el dinero? Por otra parte, desconozco la ruta que conduce a Media».	2 But how can I receive the money, seeing I know him not?
3 Tobit, entonces, respondió a su hijo Tobías: «El me dio un recibo y yo a él otro; lo partí en dos, tomé una parte y dejé la otra con el dinero. ¡Ya va para veinte años que deposité esta suma! Ahora, hijo, busca un hombre de confianza que vaya contigo, y le tomaremos a sueldo hasta tu vuelta, y vete a recuperar esta plata».	3 Then he gave him the handwriting, and said unto him, Seek thee a man which may go with thee, whiles I yet live, and I will give him wages: and go and receive the money.
4 Salió Tobías a buscar un hombre que conociera la ruta y fuera con él a Media. En saliendo, encontró a Rafael, el ángel, parado ante él; pero no sabía que era un ángel de Dios.	4 Therefore when he went to seek a man, he found Raphael that was an angel.
5 Díjole, pues: «¿De dónde eres, joven?» Le respondió: «De los israelitas, tus hermanos y ando en busca de trabajo». Díjole Tobías: «¿Conoces la ruta de Media?»	5 But he knew not; and he said unto him, Canst thou go with me to Rages? and knowest thou those places well?
6 Respondió: «Sí; he estado allá muchas veces y conozco al detalle todos los caminos. He ido a Media con frecuencia y he sido huésped de Gabael, nuestro hermano, el que vive en Ragués de Media. Hay dos jornadas de camino entre Ecbátana y Ragués, pues Ragués está en la montaña y Ecbátana en el llano».	6 To whom the angel said, I will go with thee, and I know the way well: for I have lodged with our brother Gabael.
7 Tobías le dijo: «Espérame, joven, que voy a decírselo a mi padre, porque necesito que vengas conmigo; y yo te pagaré tu sueldo».	7 Then Tobias said unto him, Tarry for me, till I tell my father.
8 El le dijo: «Te espero, pero no tardes».	8 Then he said unto him, Go and tarry not. So he went in and said to his father, Behold, I have found one which will go with me. Then he said, Call him unto me, that I may know of what tribe he is, and whether he be a trusty man to go with thee.
9 Fuese Tobías a informar a su padre y le dijo: «Ya he encontrado un hombre, que es israelita, hermano nuestro». Contestóle Tobit: «Llámale, para que yo sepa a qué familia y tribu pertenece, y si es digno de confianza para que te acompañe, hijo». Salió Tobías, le llamó y le dijo: «Joven, mi padre te llama».	9 So he called him, and he came in, and they saluted one another.
10 Entró el ángel y Tobit se adelantó a saludarle; el ángel contestó: «Que disfrutes de mucha alegría». Replicó Tobit: «¿Qué alegría puedo disfrutar ya? Estoy ciego y no puedo ver la luz del cielo; yazgo en tinieblas como los muertos, que no contemplan la luz; vivo como un muerto; oigo la voz de los hombres, pero no los veo». Le dijo el ángel: «Ten confianza, que Dios te curará dentro de poco. Ten confianza». Tobit le dijo: «Mi hijo Tobías quiere ir a Media. ¿Puedes ir con él y servirle de guía? Yo te daría tu salario, hermano». El respondió: «Puedo ir con él, pues conozco al detalle todos los caminos y he viajado a Media con frecuencia; he recorrido todos sus llanos y sus montes y tengo conocimiento de todas sus rutas».	10 Then Tobit said unto him, Brother, shew me of what tribe and family thou art.
11 Tobit le dijo: «¿Querrías decirme, hermano, a qué familia y tribu perteneces?	11 To whom he said, Dost thou seek for a tribe or family, or an hired man to go with thy son? Then Tobit said unto him, I would know, brother, thy kindred and name.
12 Le respondió el ángel: «¿Qué puede importar mi tribu?» Tobit insitió: «Me gustaría, hermano, saber con seguridad tu tribu y nombre».	12 Then he said, I am Azarias, the son of Ananias the great, and of thy brethren.
13 Respondió el ángel: «Yo soy Azarías, hijo del gran Ananías, uno de tus hermanos».	13 Then Tobit said, Thou art welcome, brother; be not now angry with me, because I have enquired to know thy tribe and thy family; for thou art my brother, of an honest and good stock: for I know Ananias and Jonathas, sons of that great Samaias, as we went together to Jerusalem to worship, and offered the firstborn, and the tenths of the fruits; and they were not seduced with the error of our brethren: my brother, thou art of a good stock.
14 Le dijo Tobit: «Seas venido sano y salvo, hermano; y no lleves a mal, hermano, mi deseo de conocer con certeza tu nombre y familia. Resulta ahora que eres de mi parentela y que perteneces a un linaje bueno y honrado. He conocido a Ananías y a Natán, los dos hijos del gran Semeías; ellos iban conmigo a Jerusalén y conmigo adoraban allí, sin desviarse del buen camino. Tus hermanos son hombres de bien; de buen linaje procedes. ¡El gozo sea contigo!»	14 But tell me, what wages shall I give thee? wilt thou a drachm a day, and things necessary, as to mine own son?
15 Y añadió: «Te daré como sueldo una dracma por día, y en lo demás tendrás el mismo trato que mi hijo.	15 Yea, moreover, if ye return safe, I will add something to thy wages.
16 Vete con mi hijo y después te añadiré un sobresueldo».	16 So they were well pleased. Then said he to Tobias, Prepare thyself for the journey, and God send you a good journey. And when his son had prepared all things far the journey, his father said, Go thou with this man, and God, which dwelleth in heaven, prosper your journey, and the angel of God keep you company. So they went forth both, and the young man's dog with them.
17 Le dijo el ángel: «Partiré con él y no abrigues temor; sanos partimos y sanos regresaremos a ti, porque la ruta es segura». Le respondió Tobit: «Bendito seas, hermano». Y llamando a su hijo le anunció: «Hijo, prepara las cosas para el camino y emprende la marcha con tu hermano; que el Dios que está en los cielos os proteja allí y os devuelva a mí sanos; y su ángel os acompañe con su protección, hijo». Tobías se dispuso a emprender la marcha y besó a su padre y a su madre. Tobit le dijo: «¡Que tengáis buen viaje!»	17 But Anna his mother wept, and said to Tobit, Why hast thou sent away our son? is he not the staff of our hand, in going in and out before us?
18 Pero su madre lloraba y dijo a Tobit: «¿Por qué has hecho que se vaya mi hijo? ¿No era él el bastón de nuestra mano, que siempre va y viene con nosotros?	18 Be not greedy to add money to money: but let it be as refuse in respect of our child.
19 ¡Que no sea el dinero lo primero de todo! Que no se convierta en el precio de nuestro hijo!	19 For that which the Lord hath given us to live with doth suffice us.
20 ¡Con lo que el Señor nos daba para vivir teníamos bastante!»	20 Then said Tobit to her, Take no care, my sister; he shall return in safety, and thine eyes shall see him.
21 El le dijo: «No pienses tal cosa; sano ha partido nuestro hijo y sano volverá a nosotros; con tus propios ojos lo verás el día que regrese sano junto a ti.	21 For the good angel will keep him company, and his journey shall be prosperous, and he shall return safe.
22 No pienses tal cosa ni te atormentes por ellos, hermana; porque un ángel bueno le acompañará, le dará un viaje fácil y le devolverá sano».	22 Then she made an end of weeping.
