Epistola di San Iacobo Apostolo 3

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non vogliate essere fatti molti maestri, sapiendo che maggiore giudicio riceverete.	1 Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shal receive a stricterjudgement.
2 Però che in molte cose offendiamo tutti; ma se alcuno in parola non offende, questo è perfetto uomo; e così puote col freno menare intorno tutto il corpo.	2 For we all trip up in many ways. Someone who does not trip up in speech has reached perfection andis able to keep the whole body on a tight rein.
3 Ma se mettemo freno in bocca de' cavalli acciò che consentano a noi, e tutto il corpo lor volgemo intorno.	3 Once we put a bit in the horse's mouth, to make it do what we want, we have the whole animal underour control.
4 Ed ecco le navi, conciosia cosa che siano così grandi, e da forti venti (sono) menate, ma son girate intorno da piccolo governamento, dove l' avacciamento del dirizzatore vorrà.	4 Or think of ships: no matter how big they are, even if a gale is driving them, they are directed by a tinyrudder wherever the whim of the helmsman decides.
5 E così la lingua certamente è piccol membro, e grandi cose innalza; ed ecco quanto (piccol) fuoco come grande selva arde!	5 So the tongue is only a tiny part of the body, but its boasts are great. Think how smal a flame can setfire to a huge forest;
6 E la lingua è fuoco universale della iniquità. La lingua è ordinata nelle nostre membra, la qual corrompe tutto il corpo, enfiata la rota della nostra natività, infiammata dal fuoco.	6 The tongue is a flame too. Among al the parts of the body, the tongue is a whole wicked world: itinfects the whole body; catching fire itself from hel , it sets fire to the whole wheel of creation.
7 Imperò che tutte le nature di bestie e di uccelli e di serpenti, e di tutte l' altre cose, si domano e son domate dalla natura umana.	7 Wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish of every kind can al be tamed, and have been tamed, byhumans;
8 Ma la lingua niuno degli uomini puote domare; (però ch' ) ella è non ripose vole al male, piena di veleno mortale.	8 but nobody can tame the tongue -- it is a pest that wil not keep stil , ful of deadly poison.
9 Con essa benedicemo Dio Padre; e con essa maledicemo gli uomini, li quali son fatti a similitudine di Dio.	9 We use it to bless the Lord and Father, but we also use it to curse people who are made in God'simage:
10 E di una bocca esce benedizione e maledizione; non è bisogno, fratelli miei, di fare così.	10 the blessing and curse come out of the same mouth. My brothers, this must be wrong-
11 Però che la fonte, d' uno forame, non dà acqua dolce e amara.	11 does any water supply give a flow of fresh water and salt water out of the same pipe?
12 Nè non puote, fratelli miei, il fico dar uva, nè la vite fichi; e così l'acqua salsa non puote fare acqua dolce.	12 Can a fig tree yield olives, my brothers, or a vine yield figs? No more can sea water yield fresh water.
13 Chi è intra voi savio e maestrato? Dimostri della buona conversazione l'opera sua in suavità di sapienza.	13 Anyone who is wise or understanding among you should from a good life give evidence of deeds donein the gentleness of wisdom.
14 Che se voi avete intra voi invidia amara, e contendimenti sono ne' vostri cuori, non vogliate glorificarvi, ed essere menzogneri contro alla verità.	14 But if at heart you have the bitterness of jealousy, or selfish ambition, do not be boastful or hide thetruth with lies;
15 Questa sapienza non è di sopra, ma è terrena e bestiale e del diavolo.	15 this is not the wisdom that comes from above, but earthly, human and devilish.
16 Perchè là dove è invidia e contendimento, quivi è non fermezza, ed è ogni opera perversa.	16 Wherever there are jealousy and ambition, there are also disharmony and wickedness of every kind;
17 Ma quella sapienza ch' è di sopra, prima certamente è casta, poscia pacifica, temperata e soave, consenziente al bene, piena di misericordia e di buoni frutti, (giudicando) senza inganno.	17 whereas the wisdom that comes down from above is essential y something pure; it is also peaceable,kindly and considerate; it is ful of mercy and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality orhypocrisy in it.
18 Ma il frutto della giustizia in pace è seminato a quelli che fanno la pace.	18 The peace sown by peacemakers brings a harvest of justice.
