1 Ed eransi approssimati a quello li pubblicani e peccatori, acciò udissero quello.	1 Now tax collectors and sinners were drawing near to him, so that they might listen to him.
2 E gli Scribi e Farisei mormoravano (di Iesù) e dicevano questo riceve (pubblicani e) peccatori, e mangia con loro.	2 And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This one accepts sinners and eats with them.”
3 E Iesù disse a loro questa similitudine:	3 And he told this parable to them, saying:
4 Qual è quello di voi, il quale avendo cento pecore, e perdendone una di quelle cento, non lascia egli le novantanove nel deserto, e va dietro a quella ch' era perduta, insino che l'ha ritrovata?	4 “What man among you, who has one hundred sheep, and if he will have lost one of them, would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the one whom he had lost, until he finds it?
5 E ritrovata ch' egli l'ha, rallegrasi e pònesela in su le spalle;	5 And when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 e torna a casa, e chiama gli vicini e gli amici, e dice a loro: rallegratevi meco, imperò ch' io ho ritrovato la pecora ch' io avea perduta.	6 And returning home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: ‘Congratulate me! For I have found my sheep, which had been lost.’
7 E così vi dico: più allegrezza sarà in cielo di uno peccatore che torni a penitenza, che di novantanove giusti li quali non hanno bisogno di fare penitenza.	7 I say to you, that there will be so much more joy in heaven over one sinner repenting, than over the ninety-nine just, who do not need to repent.
8 Ovvero qual femina è che abbia dieci dramme, e se ella ne perde una, non accende ella la lucerna, e cerca tutta la casa diligentemente, tanto che l'abbia trovata?	8 Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she will have lost one drachma, would not light a candle, and sweep the house, and diligently search until she finds it?
9 E quando l' ha ritrovata, ella chiama le amiche e le vicine, e dice: rallegratevi con meco, imperò ch' io ho ritrovata la dramma ch' io avea perduta.	9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying: ‘Rejoice with me! For I have found the drachma, which I had lost.’
10 E io così dico a voi: sarà (maggiore) allegrezza in cielo, dinanzi alli angioli di Dio, di uno peccatore che torni a penitenza.	10 So I say to you, there will be joy before the Angels of God over even one sinner who is repentant.”
11 Disse adunque: fu uomo ch' ebbe due figliuoli.	11 And he said: “A certain man had two sons.
12 E il più giovine disse al padre: padre, dammi la parte mia di quello che mi tocca, che tu hai. E il padre diedeli.	12 And the younger of them said to the father, ‘Father, give me the portion of your estate which would go to me.’ And he divided the estate between them.
13 E dopo alquanti giorni, radunato ch' ebbe ciò che il padre gli avea dato, andò in lontano paese; e quivi consumò tutta la sua sostanza, vivendo lussuriosamente.	13 And after not many days, the younger son, gathering it all together, set out on a long journey to a distant region. And there, he dissipated his substance, living in luxury.
14 E quando ebbe consumato ogni cosa, avvenne che in quello paese (venne tanta carestia che) la fame v'era grandissima; onde egli incominciò avere grande necessità (e fame).	14 And after he had consumed it all, a great famine occurred in that region, and he began to be in need.
15 E (per scampare la vita sua dalla fame) puosesi per fante di uno cittadino di quelle contrade; e mandollo in villa sua a pascere li porci.	15 And he went and attached himself to one of the citizens of that region. And he sent him to his farm, in order to feed the swine.
16 Onde egli venne a tanto che desiderava (di saziarsi e) d'empirsi il ventre di quelli cibi che mangiavano gli porci; e niuno gliene dava.	16 And he wanted to fill his belly with the scraps that the swine ate. But no one would give it to him.
17 E quello, tornando in sè medesimo, disse: oh quanti mercenarii abbondano di pane nella casa del mio padre; e io mi moro di fame!	17 And returning to his senses, he said: ‘How many hired hands in my father’s house have abundant bread, while I perish here in famine!
18 Onde io mi voglio levare, e andare al padre mio, e dirgli padre mio, io ho peccato in cielo (e) in terra) e dinanzi da te.	18 I shall rise up and go to my father, and I will say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
19 E già non son degno di esser chiamato tuo figliuolo; ma fa a me sì come a uno de' tuoi mercenarii.	19 I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me one of your hired hands.’
20 E levossi, e venne al padre suo. E inanzi che giugnesse a casa, il padre della lunga l' ebbe veduto; e vedendolo ebbe misericordia di lui, e andogli incontra, e abbracciollo e basciollo.	20 And rising up, he went to his father. But while he was still at a distance, his father saw him, and he was moved with compassion, and running to him, he fell upon his neck and kissed him.
21 E il figliuolo disse al padre: padre, io ho peccato in cielo (e in terra) e dinanzi a te, e non son degno di esser chiamato tuo figliuolo.	21 And the son said to him: ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. Now I am not worthy to be called your son.’
22 Allora disse il padre alli servi suoi: andate presto, e togliete il più nobile vestimento ch' è in casa, e vestitelo; e arrecate l'anello, e ponetelo nelle sue mani, e il calzamento ne' suoi piedi.	22 But the father said to his servants: ‘Quickly! Bring out the best robe, and clothe him with it. And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.
23 E pigliate il vitello saginato ( ch' è più grasso), e uccidetelo, acciò che manuchiamo e facciamo (nozze e) festa.	23 And bring the fatted calf here, and kill it. And let us eat and hold a feast.
24 Imperò che questo mio figliuolo era morto, e ora è resuscitato; perduto, ed ello è ritrovato. E (giunto che fu a casa) cominciorono a mangiare e fare grande festa.	24 For this son of mine was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to feast.
25 Allora il figliuolo maggiore era nel campo; e tornando, e approssimandosi a casa, udì li canti e suoni, e gl' instrumenti della festa.	25 But his elder son was in the field. And when he returned and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
26 Chiamò uno de' servi, e dimandollo che era quello.	26 And he called one of the servants, and he questioned him as to what these things meant.
27 Rispose il servo e disse: il tuo fratello è ritornato, e che il tuo padre avea morto il vitello (grasso saginato), perchè l' ha trovato salvo.	27 And he said to him: ‘Your brother has returned, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safely.’
28 E quello indignossi, e non volea entrare in casa. Allora il padre di quello uscì fuori a lui, ? cominciò a pregare quello.	28 Then he became indignant, and he was unwilling to enter. Therefore, his father, going out, began to plead with him.
29 E colui rispose, e disse: tu sai ch' io ti ho servito cotanti anni, e mai non feci contro il tuo comandamento, e già mai non mi desti uno capretto, ch' io mangiassi con gli compagni miei.	29 And in response, he said to his father: ‘Behold, I have been serving you for so many years. And I have never transgressed your commandment. And yet, you have never given me even a young goat, so that I might feast with my friends.
30 E questo altro tuo figliuolo ch' è tornato, il quale ha consumato la sua parte con le meretrici (vivendo lussuriosamente), hai per lui ucciso il vitello (grosso e) saginato.	30 Yet after this son of yours returned, who has devoured his substance with loose women, you have killed the fatted calf for him.’
31 E il padre gli disse: figliuolo, tn sei sempre meco, e ciò ch' io ho sì è tuo.	31 But he said to him: ‘Son, you are with me always, and all that I have is yours.
32 Ma pure ci conviene fare festa (e convito) e mangiare, imperò che questo tuo fratello era morto, ed è resuscitato; era perito, ed è ritrovato.	32 But it was necessary to feast and to rejoice. For this brother of yours was dead, and has revived; he was lost, and is found.’ ”
