1 E andorono da lui li Farisei e Sadducei, tentandolo e pregandolo ch' egli li mostrasse uno segno del cielo.	1 And Pharisees and Sadducees approached him to test him, and they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 Ed egli rispondendo disse a loro: fatta la sera, voi dicete: sarà sereno, imperò ch' egli è rubicondo il cielo.	2 But he responded by saying to them: “When evening arrives, you say, ‘It will be calm, for the sky is red,’
3 E la mattina dicete: sarà la tempesta, imperò che lampa il nuvoloso cielo.	3 and in the morning, ‘Today there will be a storm, for the sky is red and gloomy.’ So then, you know how to judge the appearance of the sky, but you are unable to know the signs of the times?
4 Voi avete saputo (con effetto) giudicare la faccia del cielo; ma non potete sapere li segni dei tempi? La generazione prava e adultera cerca il segno; e non li sarà dato segno altro che quello di Iona profeta. E lasciati quelli, si partì.	4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign. And a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And leaving them behind, he went away.
5 Ed essendo venuti li discepoli suoi oltre il mare, dimenticoronsi togliere del pane.	5 And when his disciples went across the sea, they forgot to bring bread.
6 Il quale disse a quelli: guardatevi dal levamento de' Farisei e de' Sadducei.	6 And he said to them, “Consider and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”
7 E quelli fra sè pensavano, dicendo: (egli dice questo) imperò che non abbiamo tolto il pane.	7 But they were thinking within themselves, saying, “It is because we have not brought bread.”
8 Ma sapendo Iesù, disse: che pensate voi, o uomini di poca fede, imperò che voi non avete pane?	8 Then Jesus, knowing this, said: “Why do you consider within yourselves, O little in faith, that it is because you have no bread?
9 Ancora nou intendete, nè (etiam) vi ricordate de' cinque pani e de' cinque milia uomini (che furono saziati) e di quante coffe che ricoglieste?	9 Do you not yet understand, nor remember, the five loaves among the five thousand men, and how many containers you took up?
10 Ed (etiam non vi ricordate) de' sette pani de' quattro milia uomini, e di quante sporte voi ricoglieste?	10 Or the seven loaves among the four thousand men, and how many baskets you took up?
11 Il perchè non intendete, come [non] vi ho detto del pane, dicendo: guardatevi dal levamento de' Farisei e Sadducei?	11 Why do you not understand that it was not because of bread that I said to you: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees?”
12 Allora loro intesero ch' egli non avea detto di guardarsi dal levamento del pane, ma dalla dottrina de' Farisei e Sadducei.	12 Then they understood that he was not saying that they should beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
13 Ma venne Iesù nelle parti di Cesarea dove era Filippo, e domandava li suoi discepoli, e diceva: chi dicono li uomini che sia il Figliuolo dell' uomo?	13 Then Jesus went into parts of Caesarea Philippi. And he questioned his disciples, saying, “Who do men say that the Son of man is?”
14 Ed egli dissero: alcuni dicono ch' è Ioanne Battista, altri dicono ch' è Elia, altri dicono Ieremia, ovvero uno degli altri profeti.	14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, and others say Elijah, still others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 E Iesù disse a loro: e voi che dicete che sia?	15 Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Rispose Simon Pietro, e disse: tu sei Cristo, figliuolo di Dio vivo.	16 Simon Peter responded by saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 E Iesù disse: beato sei, Simon Bar Iona, imperò che la carne nè il sangue non te l' ha rivelato, ma il Padre mio ch' è in cielo.	17 And in response, Jesus said to him: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father, who is in heaven.
18 E io ti dico, che tu sei Pietro, e sopra questa pietra edificherò la chiesa mia, e le porte dell' inferno non averanno possanza contra lei.	18 And I say to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
19 E a te darò le chiavi del regno del cielo; e qualunque tu legarai sopra la terra, sarà legato in cielo; e qualunque tu scioglierai sopra la terra, sarà soluto in cielo.	19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound, even in heaven. And whatever you shall release on earth shall be released, even in heaven.”
20 Allora comandò alli suoi discepoli, che loro non dicessero ad alcuno, com' egli fusse Iesù Cristo.	20 Then he instructed his disciples that they should tell no one that he is Jesus the Christ.
21 E dopo incominciò Iesù a mostrare ai suoi discepoli, come bisognavali andare in Ierusalem, e patir molte cose dalli antiqui e Scribi, e dalli prìncipi de sacerdoti, e bisognavali essere ucciso, e resuscitare il terzo giorno.	21 From that time, Jesus began to reveal to his disciples that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and to suffer much from the elders and the scribes and the leaders of the priests, and to be killed, and to rise again on the third day.
22 E Pietro incominciò a contradicerli, dicendo: Signore, partisi da te; questo a te non sarà.	22 And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, “Lord, may it be far from you; this shall not happen to you.”
23 Ed egli, voltato a lui, disse: vattene indietro, Satana; tu a me sei scandalo, imperò che non sai quelle cose che son di Dio, ma quelle che sono delli uomini.	23 And turning away, Jesus said to Peter: “Get behind me, Satan; you are an obstacle to me. For you are not behaving according to what is of God, but according to what is of men.”
24 Allora disse Iesù alli suoi discepoli: se alcuno vole venire dopo me, anneghi sè stesso, e toglia la croce sua, e sèguiti me.	24 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “If anyone is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 E chi vuole salvare l' anima sua, perderalla; e colui che la perderà per me, la ritroverà.	25 For whoever would save his life, will lose it. But whoever will have lost his life for my sake, shall find it.
26 E che utilità è all' uomo, s' egli tutto il mondo guadagnasse, e patisse il danno dell' anima sua? Ovvero che cambio darà l'uomo per l'anima sua?	26 For how does it benefit a man, if he gains the whole world, yet truly suffers damage to his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 E il Figliuolo dell' uomo dee venire colli angioli suoi nella gloria del Padre suo; e allora renderà a ciascheduno secondo l'opera sua.	27 For the Son of man will arrive in the glory of his Father, with his Angels. And then he will repay each one according to his works.
28 In verità vi dico, che sono alcuni di quelli che sono qui, li quali non gustaranno la morte insino a tanto che vederanno il Figliuolo dell' uomo venire nel regno suo.	28 Amen I say to you, there are some among those standing here, who shall not taste death, until they see the Son of man arriving in his reign.”
