Iona 3

1 E disse Iddio la seconda volta a Iona:	1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
2 Lièvati suso, e va in Ninive, in quella grande cittade; e prèdica in quella la predicazione ch' io ti dirò.	2 "Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you."
3 E Iona si levò, e andò in Ninive secondo la parola di Dio; e Ninive era una grande cittade, ed era lo viaggio (grande) di tre dì, (che durava tre giornate, tanto era grande).	3 So Jonah made ready and went to Nineveh, according to the LORD'S bidding. Now Nineveh was an enormously large city; it took three days to go through it.
4 E cominciò Iona a entrare nella terra per una giornata; e gridò, e disse: di qui a XXXX dì (hae termine) questa terra (e poi rovinerà e) rivolgerassi sotto sorra.	4 Jonah began his journey through the city, and had gone but a single day's walk announcing, "Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,"
5 E li uomini di Ninive credettono nel Signore; e vestironsi di sacco, e predicarono lo digiuno dal grande insino al piccolo.	5 when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth.
6 E venne lo detto insino allo re di Ninive; e levossi della sedia, e gittò lo suo vestimento da sè, e vestissi di sacco, e sedeo nella cenere.	6 When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.
7 E gridò, e disse in Ninive dalla bocca del re e de' suoi principi, dicendo: li uomini e li giumenti, li buoi e le pecore non mangino alcuna cosa, e non pascano, e non beano acqua.	7 Then he had this proclaimed throughout Nineveh, by decree of the king and his nobles: "Neither man nor beast, neither cattle nor sheep, shall taste anything; they shall not eat, nor shall they drink water.
8 E li uomini e li giumenti (e ogni bestiame grosso, tutti) si coprano di sacco, e gridino al Signore nella fortezza loro; e convertasi l' uomo dalla sua mala via, e dalla malvagitade la quale è nelle loro mani.	8 Man and beast shall be covered with sackcloth and call loudly to God; every man shall turn from his evil way and from the violence he has in hand.
9 Chi sa s' elli si convertirà, e perdoni [Iddio], e ritorni dal furore della sua ira, e non periremo?	9 Who knows, God may relent and forgive, and withhold his blazing wrath, so that we shall not perish."
10 E vidde lo Signore Iddio le loro opere, però che si convertirono della loro mala via; e lo Signore Iddio ebbe misericordia sopra la loro malizia; e quello ch' egli parlò di fare loro, non lo fece.	10 When God saw by their actions how they turned from their evil way, he repented of the evil that he had threatened to do to them; he did not carry it out.
