Amos 4

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Udite la parola di Dio, o voi, vacche grasse, le quali siete nel monte di Samaria, e fate calunnia alli bisognosi, e rompete li poveri; le quali dite alli vostri signori: portate qua, e beremo.	1 Listen to this saying, you cows of Bashan living on the hil of Samaria, exploiting the weak and il -treating the poor, saying to your husbands, 'Bring us something to drink!'
2 Lo Signore Iddio giurò nel suo santo; però che ecco li di verranno sopra voi, e leveranno voi tra tutti, e lo vostro rimanente metteranno nelle pentole bollenti.	2 The Lord God has sworn by his holiness: Look, the days wil soon be on you when he wil use hooks todrag you away and fish-hooks for the very last of you;
3 E uscirete per le porte l' una incontro all'altra, e sarete gettate in Armon, dice il Signore.	3 through the breaches in the wal you wil leave, each one straight ahead, and be herded away towardsHermon -declares Yahweh.
4 Venite a Betel, (e portatevi) e operate malvagitadi; a Galgala, e moltiplicate la prevaricazione; e offerite la mattina li animali del sacrificio, e (darete) tre dì le vostre decime.	4 Go to Bethel, and sin, to Gilgal, and sin even harder! Bring your sacrifices each morning, your tithesevery third day,
5 E sacrificate di fermentato, e date laude, e chiamate (cioè fate) le vostre offerte volontarie, e annunziate; però che voi così voleste, figliuoli d' Israel, dice lo Signore Iddio.	5 burn your thank-offering of leaven and widely publicise your free-wil offerings, for this, children ofIsrael, is what makes you happy -declares the Lord Yahweh.
6 Per la qual cosa io diedi a voi stupore (e tremore) di denti in tutte le vostre terre; e averete necessità di pane in tutti li vostri luoghi; e non ritornaste a me, dice lo Signore.	6 I even gave you clean teeth in all your towns and a shortage of food in al your vil ages and stil youwould not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
7 Io vietai che voi non aveste piova, conciosia cosa che ancora sieno (di soperchio) tre mesi inanzi la ricolta; e io feci piovere sopra una città, e sopra una altra non feci piovere; una parte fu bagnata, e l'altra parte, sopra la quale non piovette, si seccò.	7 I even withheld the rain from you ful three months before harvest-time; I caused rain to fall in one townand caused no rain to fal in another; one field was rained on and the next for want of rain dried up;
8 E vennero due e tre cittadi ad una città, acciò che bevessono l'acqua; non si saziarono; e non ritornaste a me, dice Iddio.	8 two towns, three towns went tottering to one town for water to drink but went unsatisfied, and stil youwould not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
9 Io percossi voi con vento ardente [e con] marmaruche; e io guastai la moltitudine de' vostri orti (col vento putrido); e le vostre vigne e li vostri uliveti e li vostri ficheti si mangioe la ruca; e voi non ritornaste a me, dice lo Signore Iddio.	9 I struck you with blight and mildew, I dried up your gardens and vineyards; the locust devoured your figtrees and olive trees and stil you would not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
10 Io mandai a voi la morte nella via d' Egitto, e percossi col coltello li vostri giovani, d' infino alla prigionia de' vostri cavalli; e feci salire la puzza de' vostri castelli nelle vostre nari; e non ritornaste a me, dice Iddio.	10 I sent plague on you like Egypt's plague, I slaughtered your young men with the sword and at thesame time your horses were captured; I fil ed your nostrils with the stench of your camps and stil you would notcome back to me -declares Yahweh.
11 Io rivolsi voi sotto sopra, come lo Signore Iddio rivolse Sodoma e Gomorra; e diventaste come una ritorta nello incendio; e non ritornaste a me, dice lo Signore Iddio.	11 I overturned you as God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah; you were like a brand snatched from theblaze and stil you would not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
12 Per la qual cosa, o Israel, io farò questo a te, (dice Iddio); e poi ch' io l' averò fatto, apparècchiati in contro al [tuo] Signore Iddio.	12 So this, Israel, is what I plan to do to you. Because I am going to do this to you, Israel, prepare tomeet your God!
13 Però ch' io formo li monti, e creo lo vento, e annunzio lo parlare all' uomo, e fo la nebbia del mattutino, e vo per l'altezza delle terre; e lo mio. nome si chiama lo Iddio delli esèrciti (Iddio d' Israel).	13 For look, he it is who forges the mountains, creates the wind, who reveals his mind to humankind,changes the dawn into darkness and strides on the heights of the world: Yahweh, God Sabaoth, is his name.
