BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Figliuolo osserva il mio parlare, e i comandamenti miei ripongli apresso a te.	1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my precepts with thee. Son,
2 Figliuolo, (onora Iddio, e averai potestà contra a' tuoi inimici; e non temere alcuno, ma solo lui) osserva i miei comandamenti, e viverai; e la mia legge (fa che la osservi e) custodiscila, come la pupilla dell' occhio tuo.	2 Keep my commandments, and thou shalt live: and my law as the apple of thy eye:
3 Legala nelle dita tue (operando bene), e scrivila nelle tavole del cuor tuo.	3 Bind it upon thy fingers, write it upon the tables of thy heart.
4 Di' alla sapienza: tu sei mia sorella, e chiama la prudenza, amica tua,	4 Say to wisdom: Thou art my sister: and call prudence thy friend,
5 acciò ti custodisca dalla mogliere d'altrui e aliena, la qual ha parole (soavi e) dolci.	5 That she may keep thee from the woman that is not thine, and from the stranger who sweeteneth her words.
6 Per che dalla fenestra della mia casa, per i forami, io vidi (uno giovane).	6 For I look out of the window of my house through the lattice,
7 E vedo alcuni di poco sentimento, e considero il giovane leggiero di cuore.	7 And I see little ones, I behold a foolish young man,
8 Il qual passa per la piazza apresso uno angulo, e passa per la via apresso la casa della meretrice	8 Who passeth through the street by the corner, and goeth nigh the way of her house.
9 in oscuro, nelle tenebre della notte, essendo già passato il dì.	9 In the dark, when it grows late, in the darkness and obscurity of the night,
10 Ed ecco una femina in abito di meretrice li viene incontra, preparata ad ingannar i giovani, con molte piacevoli parole, vaga di cuore.	10 And behold a woman meeteth him in harlot's attire prepared to deceive souls; talkative and wandering,
11 La qual non sta volentieri in quiete, nè sta volentieri in casa.	11 Not bearing to be quiet, not able to abide still at home,
12 Mo' si trova in casa d' altrui, mo' in piazza, mo' negli anguli (e luoghi ascosti) per insidiare (e sedur le genti).	12 Now abroad, now in the streets, now lying in wait near the corners.
13 E approssimata al giovane, l'abbracciò e baciollo, e con il volto inverecondo lo lusinga, e dice:	13 And catching the young man, she kisseth him, and with an impudent face, flattereth, saying:
14 Io ho fatto uno voto per avanti, e oggi sono stata ad offerirlo.	14 I vowed victims for prosperity, this day I have paid my vows.
15 E però io ti son venuta incontra, desiderando di vederti, (e il mio desiderio è adempiuto) e holli trovato.	15 Therefore I am come out to meet thee, desirous to see thee, and I have found thee.
16 (Voglio che tu sappi che) io ho preparato il letto mio, e (per la camera) ho steso i tapeti lavorati, i quali furono fatti in Egitto.	16 I have woven my bed with cords, I have covered it with painted tapestry, brought from Egypt.
17 E ho fumata la camera di mirra e aloe cinnamomo.	17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Vieni, e abbiamo delettazione insieme ardentissimamente, per fino ch' el si fia dì.	18 Come, let us be inebriated with the breasts, and let us enjoy the desired embraces, till the day appear.
19 Il mio marito non è in casa; l'è ito molto dalla lunga.	19 For my husband is not at home, he is gone a very long journey.
20 Egli ha tolto dinari con lui; e tornerà a casa per fino a uno mese.	20 He took with him a bag of money: he mill return home the day of the full moon.
21 A questo modo lei parlando circonvenne il giovane, e con piacevoli e soavi parole trasselo al voler suo.	21 She entangled him with many words, and drew him away with the flattery of her lips.
22 Il quale sùbito seguitò lei, come bue il quale è menato alla morte, e agnello pieno di lascivia, e come stulto il qual non cognosce si mena alla morte,	22 Immediately he followeth her as an ox led to be a victim, and as a lamb playing the wanton, and not knowing that he is drawn like a fool to bonds,
23 per fino che la sagitta gli trapassi il cuore; e fa come l'uccello il quale celeremente corre in la rete, e non intende che del pericolo dell' anima sua si tratta.	23 Till the arrow pierce his liver: as if a bird should make haste to the snare, and knoweth not that his life is in danger.
24 Allora, figliuolo mio, audi me, e attendi alle parole mie,	24 Now therefore, my son, hear me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 acciò la mente tua non sia tirata nelle vie sue, e acciò non sii ingannato dalle sue piacevoli parole (e promesse).	25 Let not thy mind be drawn away in her ways: neither be thou deceived with her paths.
26 Molti sono stati sedotti da tale, e sono periclitati; e molti forti (e constanti) sono stati ingannati, e poi lo fine loro è stato la morte (così corporale, come spirituale).	26 For she hath cast down many wounded, and the strongest have been slain by her.
27 La casa sua è la via dello inferno, penetrante nella morte, (e conduce l'anima allo inferno).	27 Her house is the way to hell, reaching even to the inner chambers of death.
