BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Aggiugnendo ancora Eliu queste cose:	1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:
2 Sostieni me uno poco, e mostreroe a te; ancora io ho da parlare, per quello che s' appartiene a Dio.	2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.
3 Ripeterò la mia scienza dal principio, e lo mio operatore proverò giusto.	3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.
4 Veramente sanza falsità sono li miei sermoni, e per perfetta scienza si proverà a te.	4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.
5 Iddio li potenti non caccia, conciosia cosa che egli sia potente.	5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure
6 Ma non salva gli malvagi, e lo giudicio alli poveri dà.	6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;
7 Non toglie dal giusto li suoi occhii, e li re nella sedia alluoga in perpetuo, e ivi si dirizzano.	7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,
8 E se saranno stati nelle catene, e sieno legati colle funi della povertade,	8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.
9 dimostrerà a loro le loro opere e le loro fellonie, perciò che sono stati sforzati.	9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.
10 E rivelerà le orecchie loro, acciò che li corregga; e favellerà, acciò che loro si partano dalla iniquitade.	10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.
11 S'elli udiranno e osserveranno, compiranno li dì loro in bene, e li loro anni nella gloria.	11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.
12 Ma se non udiranno, passeranno per il coltello, e saranno consumati nella sciocchezza.	12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.
13 Gli simulatori e astuti pròvocano l'ira di Dio; e non chiameranno, quando saranno legati.	13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,
14 E morirà nella tempesta l' anima loro, e la vita loro sarà intra li tristi e vili.	14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.
15 Scamperà lo povero della sua angoscia, e rivelerà le orecchie sue nelle tribulazioni.	15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.
16 Adunque salverà te della bocca stretta largamente, e non avente fondamento sotto sè; e lo riposo sarae alla tua mensa pieno d' abbondanza.	16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,
17 La tua cagione, quasi come del malvagio, è giudicata; e la cagione (tua) e lo giudicio tu riceverai.	17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.
18 Adunque non soperchii a te l'ira, acciò che tu costringa alcuno; nè la moltitudine delli doni inchini te.	18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.
19 Lascia stare la tua grandezza sanza tribulazione, e tutti li robusti colla fortezza.	19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.
20 Non prolungare la notte, acciò che li popoli salgano per quelle.	20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.
21 Guàrdati che tu non declini alla iniquitade; certo questa incominciasti a seguitare dopo la miseria.	21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.
22 Ecco, Iddio altissimo nella sua fortezza, e niuno è simile a lui nelli rapportatori della legge.	22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?
23 Chi potrà cercare le sue vie? ovvero chi gli potrà dire ch' egli abbia adoperato la iniquitade?	23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?
24 Ricòrdati che non sai lo suo lavorìo, del quale cantarono gli uomini.	24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.
25 Tutti gli uomini veggono lui, ciascuno ragguarda da lunga.	25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.
26 Ecco, lo Iddio grande vincente la nostra scienza; e lo numero degli anni suoi non si puote stimare.	26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.
27 Il quale toglie le goccie della piova, e disparge li venti piovali a modo di gorghi (profondi),	27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.
28 i quali piovono da nuvoli, i quali cuoprono ogni cosa di sopra.	28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.
29 Se vorrà stendere i nuvoli, come suo tetto,	29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?
30 e folgorare collo lume suo di sopra, coprirâ l'estremità del mare.	30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.
31 Per queste cose giudica li popoli, e dà l' esca a tutti i mortali.	31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.
32 Nelle mani nasconde la luce, e condanna lei, che anche venga.	32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.
33 Annunzia di quella all' amico suo, che sia sua possessione, e a lei possa salire.	33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.
