Iob 21

BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Rispose Iob, e disse:	1 Then Job responded by saying:
2 Io v' addomando che voi udiate li miei sermoni, e facciate penitenza.	2 I beseech you to hear my words and to do penance.
3 Sostenete me, acciò ch' io favelli; e dopo le mie parole, se vi parerà, ridete.	3 Permit me, and I will speak, and afterwards, if you see fit, you can laugh at my words.
4 Or (non) è contro all' uomo la mia disputazione, acciò che per merito non mi debba contristare?	4 Is my dispute against man, so that I would have no reason to be discouraged?
5 Attendete a me, e maravigliatevi, e ponete lo dito sopra la bocca vostra.	5 Listen to me and be astonished, and place a finger over your mouth.
6 E io, quando me ne ricorderò, comincio a temere, e percuote lo tremore la mia carne.	6 As for me, when I think it over, I am afraid, and trembling convulses my body.
7 Adunque perchè vivono i malvagi, sollevati sono e confortati colle ricchezze?	7 Why then do the impious live, having been lifted up and strengthened with riches?
8 Lo seme loro permane innanzi a loro; la turba de' propinqui e de' nepoti (loro) nel cospetto loro sono.	8 They see their offspring continue before them: a commotion of close relatives and of children’s children in their sight.
9 Le case loro sono sicure e umiliate, e non è la verga di Dio sopra loro.	9 Their houses have been secure and peaceable, and there is no staff of God over them.
10 Lo bue loro concepette, e non disperse; la vacca partorì, e non è privata del suo parto.	10 Their cattle have conceived and have not miscarried; their cow has given birth and is not deprived of her newborn.
11 Vanno, sì come le gregge, li loro figliuoli; e li fanciulli loro si rallegrano con le lusinghe.	11 Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children jump around playfully.
12 Tengono lo timpano e le chitarre, e rallegransi allo suono degli organi.	12 They take up the timbrel and the lyre, and they rejoice at the sound of the organ.
13 Menano in bene li loro dì, e in uno punto all' inferno discendono,	13 Their days are prolonged in wealth, yet, in an instant, they descend into hell.
14 coloro che dicono a Dio: pàrtiti da noi, e la scienza delle tue vie non vogliamo.	14 Who has said to God, “Depart from us, for we do not want the knowledge of your ways.
15 Chi è lo Onnipotente, che serviamo a lui? Che fa prode a noi, se oreremo a lui?	15 Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And how is it helpful to us if we pray to him?”
16 Ma pertanto, perciò che non sono nelle sue mani li suoi beni, lo consiglio de' malvagi sia dalla lunga da me.	16 It is true that their good things are not in their power. May the counsel of the impious be far from me!
17 Quante volte la lucerna delli malvagi sarae spenta, e la inondazione sopraverrae a loro, e li dolori divideranno li loro furori?	17 How often will the lamp of the wicked be extinguished, and a deluge overtake them, and how often will he distribute the afflictions of his wrath?
18 Saranno sì come paglia dinanzi alla faccia del vento, e sì come favilla la qual il vento sparge..	18 They will be like chaff before the face of the wind, and like ashes that the whirlwind scatters.
19 Iddio serba alli loro figliuoli lo dolore del padre; e quando ritornerà, allora lo saperà.	19 God will preserve the grief of the father for his sons, and, when he repays, then he will understand.
20 Vedranno gli occhii suoi la uccisione sua, e del furore dell' Onnipotente berà.	20 His eyes will see his own destruction, and he will drink from the wrath of the Almighty.
21 Che adunque a lui s' appartiene della casa sua dopo sè? e se lo numero delli mesi suoi sarà ammezzato?	21 For what does he care what happens to his house after him, or if the number of its months are reduced by half?
22 Or saravvi alcuno che vogli ammaestrare Iddio in scienza, il quale giudica le creature superiori?	22 Can anyone teach holy knowledge to God, who judges the exalted?
23 Questo muore robusto e sano, ricco e bene avventurato.	23 This one dies strong and healthy, rich and happy.
24 Le budella sue sono piene di grasso, e l'ossa sue sono bagnate delle midolla.	24 His gut is full of fat and his bones are moistened with marrow.
25 Ma l'altro muore nella amaritudine dell' anima sua senza quelle dolcezze.	25 In truth, another dies in bitterness of soul, without any resources.
26 E pure insieme nella polvere dormiranno,	26 And yet they will sleep together in the dust, and worms will cover them.
27 Certo io hoe conosciuto li vostri pensieri, e le sentenze contro a me malvagie.	27 Surely, I know your thoughts and your sinful judgments against me.
28 E certo voi dite: dov'è la casa del principe? e dove sono li tabernacoli delli malvagi?	28 For you say, “Where is the house of the ruler, and where are the tabernacles of the impious?”
29 Addomandate ciascuno delli viandanti, questa medesima cosa intenderete lui conoscere.	29 Ask any passerby whom you wish, and you will realize that he understands these same things:
30 Perciò che nel dì della perdizione sarae servato lo rio, e al di del furore sarae menato.	30 that the evil-doer is reserved for the day of destruction, and he will be led to the day of wrath.
31 Chi reprenderà dinanzi a lui la sua via? e chi renderae (dinanzi) a lui quello ch' elli fece?	31 Who will reprove his way to his face, and who will repay him for what he has done?
32 Alli sepolcri sarae menato, e nella dannazione delli morti vegghierae.	32 He will be led to the tomb, and he will remain awake in the chaos of the dead.
33 Dolce fue la giara del fiume infernale, e dopo sè ogni uomo trarrae, e innanzi a sè senza numero.	33 He has been found acceptable to the banks of the River of Lamentation, and he will draw any man towards him, and there are countless before him.
34 Come adunque consolate me indarno, conciosia cosa che sia dimostrato che la vostra risposta contrasta alla veritade?	34 Therefore, how long will you console me in vain, when your answer is shown to be repugnant to truth?
