1 Le quali parole udite, il re Ezechia squarciò le sue vestimenta, e copersesi di sacco, ed entrò nella casa di Dio.	1 When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his garments, wrapped himself in sackcloth, and went into the temple of the LORD.
2 E mandò Eliacim fattore della casa, e Sobna scrivano, e gli antichi sacerdoti, vestiti di sacco, ad Isaia profeta, figliuolo d' Amos.	2 He sent Eliakim, the master of the palace, Shebnah the scribe, and the elders of the priests, wrapped in sackcloth, to tell the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz,
3 I quali dissero: questo dice Ezechia: questo dì sì è dì di tribulazione e di reprensione e di biasteme; i figliuoli vennero insino al parto, e non avea forza (di partorire) quella che dovea partorire.	3 "Thus says Hezekiah: 'This is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace. Children are at the point of birth, but there is no strength to bring them forth.
4 Se forse il tuo Signore intendesse le parole di Rabsace, il quale mandò il re degli Assirii suo signore ad improperare a Dio vivente, e reprendere di parole, le quali hae udite il tuo Signore Iddio; onde fa orazione per le reliquie che si trovano.	4 Perhaps the LORD, your God, will hear all the words of the commander, whom his master, the king of Assyria, sent to taunt the living God, and will rebuke him for the words which the LORD, your God, has heard. So send up a prayer for the remnant that is here.'"
5 E vennero i servi del re Ezechia ad Isaia.	5 When the servants of King Hezekiah had come to Isaiah,
6 E disse loro Isaia: direte così al vostro signore: questo dice il Signore: non abbiate paura delle parole le quali voi avete udite, per le quali i servi del re degli Assirii hanno blasfemato me.	6 he said to them, "Tell this to your master: 'Thus says the LORD: Do not be frightened by the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7 Ecco ch' io manderò loro spirito, e intenderanno messaggi; e ritornerà nella terra sua, e farollo cadere di coltello nella sua terra.	7 I am about to put in him such a spirit that, when he hears a certain report, he will return to his own land, and there I will cause him to fall by the sword.'"
8 E tornò Rabsace, e trovò il re degli Assirii che combattea Lobna; però che lui avea udito, che s'era partito di Lachis.	8 When the commander, on his return, heard that the king of Assyria had withdrawn from Lachish, he found him besieging Libnah.
9 E avendo udito (il re degli Assirii) di Taraca re di Etiopia, per quegli che l' avvisò dicendo: ecco che l'è uscito per combattere con te, e andando contro a lui, mandò messaggi ad Ezechia dicendo:	9 The king of Assyria heard a report that Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, had come out to fight against him. Again he sent envoys to Hezekiah with this message:
10 questo dite ad Ezechia re di Giuda: non t'inganni il tuo Dio, nel quale tu hai speranza, e non dire Ierusalem non sarà data nelle mani del re degli Assirii.	10 "Thus shall you say to Hezekiah, king of Judah: 'Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be handed over to the king of Assyria.
11 Tu medesimo hai udito quello che gli re degli Assirii hanno fatto a tutte le terre, sì come le hanno disfatte; però potrai iscampare tu solo?	11 You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all other countries: they doomed them! Will you, then, be saved?
12 Or hanno li dii delle genti ciascuno liberato le loro terre, le quali hanno disfatte li miei padri, cioè Gozan e Aran e Resef, e i figliuoli di Eden i quali erano in Telassar?	12 Did the gods of the nations whom my fathers destroyed save them? Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, or the Edenites in Telassar?
13 Dov'è il re di Emat, e il re di Arfat, e il re della città di Sefarvaim, Ana e Ava?	13 Where are the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, or the kings of the cities Sepharvaim, Hena and Avva?'"
14 E tolte Ezechia le lettere di mano de' messaggi, e lettele, andossene alla casa di Dio, e sparsele nel cospetto di Dio.	14 Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; then he went up to the temple of the LORD, and spreading it out before him,
15 E orò dinanzi a lui, dicendo: Signore Iddio d' Israel, il quale siedi sopra i cherubini, tu solo se' Iddio di tutti i re della terra; tu facesti il cielo e la terra.	15 he prayed in the LORD'S presence: "O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned upon the cherubim! You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth.
16 Inchina le orecchie tue, e intendi; apri gli occhi tuoi, e vedi; intendi tutte le parole di Sennacherib, il quale mandò ad improperare a noi lo Iddio vivente.	16 Incline your ear, O LORD, and listen! Open your eyes, O LORD, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib which he sent to taunt the living God.
17 Veramente, Signore, gli re degli Assirii dissiparono le genti e le terre di tutti.	17 Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,
18 I loro iddii misergli nel fuoco; imperciò che non erano iddii, anzi erano opere delle mani degli uomini, legni e pietre; e disfecergli.	18 and cast their gods into the fire; they destroyed them because they were not gods, but the work of human hands, wood and stone.
19 Ora, Signore nostro Iddio, facci salvi delle mani sue, acciò che sappiano tutti li reami della terra, che tu solo se' Iddio.	19 Therefore, O LORD, our God, save us from the power of this man, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God."
20 E Isaia figliuolo d' Amos mandò dicendo ad Ezechia: questo dice il Signore Iddio d' Israel: quello tu hai pregato a me di Sennacherib re degli Assirii, ho udito.	20 Then Isaiah, son of Amoz, sent this message to Hezekiah: "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, in answer to your prayer for help against Sennacherib, king of Assyria: I have listened!
21 Questo è quello che Iddio ha detto di lui: egli t'ha spregiata, e hatti rembrottata, vergine figliuola di Sion! egli muove il suo capo dietro a te, figliuola di Ierusalem.	21 This is the word the LORD has spoken concerning him: " 'She despises you, laughs you to scorn, the virgin daughter Zion! Behind you she wags her head, daughter Jerusalem.
22 Cui hai tu rimproperato (cui hai tu rimbrottato) cui hai tu biastemato? contro cui hai tu levato la voce tua, e hai levato in alto gli occhi tuoi? contro al santo d' Israel.	22 Whom have you insulted and blasphemed, against whom have you raised your voice'And lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!
23 Per mano de' tuoi servi remproperasti al Signore, e dicesti: con la moltitudine delle mie carra montai in altezza de' monti, nella sua sommità del Libano, e tagliai i suoi alti cedri e i suoi eletti abeti; ed entrai insino ai suoi termini, e tagliai il bosco suo di Carmelo.	23 Through your servants you have insulted the LORD. You said: With my many chariots I climbed the mountain heights, the recesses of Lebanon; I cut down its lofty cedars, its choice cypresses; I reached the remotest heights, its forest park.
24 E hoe bevute dell' acque d' altrui, e con le vestigie de' miei piedi io ho seccate l'acque serrate.	24 I dug wells and drank water in foreign lands; I dried up with the soles of my feet all the rivers of Egypt.
25 Non hai tu udito quello ch' io feci nel principio? dal tempo antico io il feci, e [ora] hollo menato; e saranno in ruina de' poggi de' combattitori delle città fornite.	25 " 'Have you not heard? Long ago I prepared it, From days of old I planned it. Now I have brought it to pass: That you should reduce fortified cities into heaps of ruins,
26 E quelli che seggono in esse, umili di mano, tremarono e sono confusi, e sono fatti sì come il fieno de' campi, e come l'erba de' tetti verde, la quale disecca prima che venga a maturità.	26 While their inhabitants, shorn of power, are dismayed and ashamed, Becoming like the plants of the field, like the green growth, like the scorched grass on the housetops.
27 Il tuo abitacolo, il tuo entrare, il tuo uscire e la tua via, io la seppi dinanzi, e anche il tuo furore contro a me.	27 I am aware whether you stand or sit; I know whether you come or go,
28 Tu se' fatto furioso in me, e la tua superbia si è ascesa negli orecchii miei; e però io ti porrò uno cerchiello nel naso tuo, e lo freno nelle labbra tue, e rimenerotti per la via per la quale tu venisti.	28 and also your rage against me. Because of your rage against me and your fury which has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and make you return the way you came.
29 E a te, Ezechia, questo sarà segnale: mangia questo anno quello che tu trovi; e nel secondo quello che nascerà da sè stesso; e nel terzo anno seminate e mietete, e ponete le vigne, e mangiate lo frutto loro.	29 " 'This shall be a sign for you: this year you shall eat the aftergrowth, next year, what grows of itself; But in the third year, sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit!
30 E tutto quello che è rimaso della casa di Giuda, metterà le radici di sotto, e farà il frutto di sopra.	30 The remaining survivors of the house of Judah shall again strike root below and bear fruit above.
31 E di Ierusalem usciranno le reliquie, e cosa che si salvi del monte di Sion; il zelo del Signore degli eserciti farà questo.	31 For out of Jerusalem shall come a remnant, and from Mount Zion, survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.'
32 Per la quale cosa questo dice il Signore del re degli Assirii: non entrerà in questa città, e non manderà saetta, e non la occuperà iscudo, e non la circonderà munizione.	32 "Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: 'He shall not reach this city, nor shoot an arrow at it, nor come before it with a shield, nor cast up siege-works against it.
33 Per la via che venne tornerà, e [in] questa città non entrerà, dice il Signore.	33 He shall return by the same way he came, without entering the city, says the LORD.
34 E difenderò questa città, e salverolla per me, e per David servo mio.	34 I will shield and save this city for my own sake, and for the sake of my servant David.'"
35 E in quella notte intervenne, che l' angiolo di Dio venne, e percosse il campo degli Assirii, e uccisene CLXXXV milia. E levandosi la mattina, vidde tutti i corpi de' morti; e partendosi, se n' andò,	35 That night the angel of the LORD went forth and struck down one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. Early the next morning, there they were, all the corpses of the dead.
36 e ritornossene (il re) Sennacherib re degli Assirii, e istette in Ninive.	36 So Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, broke camp, and went back home to Nineveh.
37 E adorando lui nel tempio di Nesroc suo iddio, Adramelec e Sarasar suoi figliuoli l'ucciseno di coltello, e fuggirono nella terra degli Armeni; e Asaraddon suo figliuolo regnò per lui.	37 When he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer slew him with the sword and fled into the land of Ararat. His son Esarhaddon reigned in his stead.
