BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dopo due anni vidde Faraone uno sogno; e pensava ch' egli stesse sopra uno fiume.	1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,
2 Del quale n'uscivano sette vacche belle a troppo grasse, e pascevano in luogo di paduli.	2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.
3 E altre sette n'uscivano del fiume, triste e confitte di magrezza; e pascevano in quella medesima riva del fiume nelli luoghi virenti.	3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.
4 E divoravano quelle, delle quali era la bellissima specie e forma de corpi. E (fatto cosi) svegliossi Faraone.	4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.
5 E un'altra volta dormendo, vidde un altro sogno: che sette spighe pullulavano in una altezza, piene e formose.	5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.
6 E altrettante spighe, sottili e percosse d'aridezza, nascevano,	6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.
7 divorando ogni bellezza delle prime. Svegliandosi Faraone dopo lo riposo,	7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.
8 e fatta la mattina, spaventato mandò aglin dovinatori d'Egitto e a tutti li savi. Venuti, narroe lo sogno; e non v'era niuno che lo interpretasse.	8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.
9 Allora alla perfine, ricordandosi lo maestro servidore del vino, disse: io confesso lo peccato mio.	9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.
10 Adirato lo re con i servi suoi, comandò ch' io e lo maestro de' panattieri fossimo rinchiusi nella carcere del principe de'cavalieri.	10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.
11 Dove una notte ciascuno vedemmo in sogno delle cose che doveano essere.	11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.
12 Ed era quivi uno garzone, ch' è ebreo, servo di quello medesimo duca de cavalieri; al quale narrammo i sogni.	12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.
13 E udimmo quello che poscia l'avvenimento della cosa provò. In verità ridutto sono io all'officio mio, e egli fue impiccato nella croce.	13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'
14 E al comandamento del re, Iosef cavato della carcere (menarlo e) tonddrolo; e diedergli una vesta, mutata la sua; e menorolo al re.	14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.
15 Al quale quegli disse: io vidi sogni; non c'è niuno che m'abbia detto quello ch' io viddi; poi udi'ragionare che tu se saviissimo.	15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'
16 Rispuose Iosef: sanza me Iddio responderà le cose prospere, vuole Faraone.	16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'
17 Narrò adunque Faraone quello ch' egli avea veduto: parevami ch' io stessi sopra la ripa del fiume;	17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.
18 e sette vacche usciano del fiume, belle troppo e caricate di carne; le quali nel pasto del padulo pigliavano (verretta cioè) erba verde.	18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.
19 Ed ecco che queste seguitava altre sette vacche, si sformate e magrissime, che non mai co tali io viddi in tutta la terra d'Egitto.	19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.
20 Le quali, devorate e consumate le prime,	20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
21 non diedero niuna dimostranza di saturitade, ma di simiglianza di magrezza ed isqualor erano. Io mi svegliai; e un'altra volta, preso di sonno,	21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.
22 vidi che sette spighe pullulavano in una altezza, e molto bellissime.	22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;
23 E in verità altre sette, percosse d'aridezza, nascevano.	23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.
24 Le quali la bellezza delle prime divoravano. Narrai ad ispositori li sogni; e niuno è che l'abbia detto.	24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'
25 Rispuose Iosef: lo sogno del re uno è; quello che dee fare, Iddio mostrò a Faraone.	25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.
26 Le sette vacche belle, e le sette spighe piene, sono sette anni d'abbondanza; li sogni comprendono questa medesima forza.	26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.
27 E le sette vacche magre e affamate le quali vennero dopo loro, e le sette spighe sottili che vento traente percosse, sono sette anni verranno di grande fame (in tutta la terra d'Egitto).	27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.
28 I quali saranno ordinati a questo modo:	28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.
29 Ecco, verranno sette anni di una grande abbondanza in tutta la terra d'Egitto.	29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,
30 Alli quali seguiterà sette anni di tanta sterilità, che di tutta l'abbondanza dinanzi ogni cosa si dimenticherà. In verità la fame è, che debba consumare ogni terra.	30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.
31 E la grandezza della abbondanza si perderà per la grandezza della penuria.	31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.
32 E quello sogno, che tu vedesti la seconda volta, pertinente era a questa medesima cosa, e dimostranza di fermezza; impercio che fie fatta la parola di Dio, e velocemente fie adempiuto	32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.
33 Ora adunque provegga lo r'e uno uomo savio ed ammaestrato, e sopra ponghilo alla terra d'Egitto.	33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.
34 Il quale constitua prepositi per tutte le regioni; e la quinta parte del grano pei sette anni dell' abbondanza,	34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.
35 i quali già a ora debbono venire, rauni ne' granari; e ogni biada si riponga sotto la pode stà di Faraone, e servisi nelle cittadi.	35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.
36 E apparecchisi dinnanzi alla fame che de'avvenire di sette anni, la quale dee premere l’Egitto; e non si consumi la terra per la povertade.	36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'
37 Piacque a Faraone lo consiglio, e a tutti li ministri suoi.	37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.
38 E favella loro: noi non potremo trovare co tale uomo, il quale sia pieno dello spirito di Dio.	38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'
39 E disse adunque a Iosef: imperciò che Dio dimostra a te ogni cosa che tu hai favellato, non potrò trovare più savio uomo di te, e simile a te.	39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.
40 Tu sarai sopra la casa mia, e lo imperio della tua bocca tutto lo popolo obbedirà; d'una cosa solamente, del solio del regno, t'avanzerà.	40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'
41 E dicendo ancora un'altra volta Faraone a Iosef: ecco io constituirò te sopra tutta la terra d'Egitto;	41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'
42 e'tolse l'anello della mano sua, se diello in mano di lui; e vestì lui di stola bissina, e al collo dintorno di torque d'oro.	42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.
43 E fece salire lui sopra lo carro suo secondo, gridante lo banditore, che tutti innanzi a lui s' inginocchiassero, e che sapessero ch' egli era preposto di tutta la terra d'Egitto.	43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.
44 E disse ancora lo re a Iosef: io sono Faraone; senza lo tuo comandamento non moverà alcuno la mano ovvero lo piede in ogni terra d'Egitto.	44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'
45 E rivolse lo nome suo, e chiamollo in lingua egiziaca SALVATORE DEL MONDO. E diedegli moglie Asenet, figliuola di Putifare, prete delli Eliopoleos. È venuto adunque Iosef alla terra d'Egitto.	45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.
46 Certo egli era di XXX anni, quando stette nel cospetto del re Faraone (d'Egitto); e andò d'intorno ad ogni regione d'Egitto.	46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.
47 E venne l'abbondanza di sette anni; e ne' manipoli raunate, le biade messe sono ne' granai d'Egitto.	47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.
48 Ein verità ogni abbondanza in cadauna città fu riposta.	48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.
49 E tanta fue l'abbondanza del grano, che s' appareggiava all'arena del mare, e la copia la misura eccedesse.	49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.
50 E nati sono a Iosef due figliuoli, innanzi che venisse la fame; i quali partorio a lui Asenet, figliuola di Putitare sacerdote di Eliopoleos.	50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.
51 E chiamò lo nome del primogenito Manasse, dicendo: dimenticare fece me Iddio d'ogni mia fatica e della casa del padre mio.	51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'
52 E lo nome del secondo figliuolo appello Efraim, dicendo: crescere me fece Iddio nella terra della povertade mia.	52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'
53 Adunque trapassati i sette anni dell' abbon danza, li quali erano stati in Egitto,	53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,
54 cominciarono a venire i sette anni della penuria, li quali avea predetti Iosef; e in tutto lo mondo la fame fue grande; ma in tutta la terra d'Egitto era lo pane.	54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.
55 Per la quale avendo fame (degnamente) chiamò io popolo a Faraone, a domandare li alimenti:ai quali quegli respuose: andate a Iosef, e ciò che dice fate.	55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'
56 Ma certo continuamente crescea la fame in ogni terra (d'Egitto); e aperse Iosef tutti li granai, e vendeva a quelli d'Egitto; perciò che coloro avea constretti la fame.	56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.
57 E tutte le provincie veniano in Egitto per comperare lo cibo, acciò che lo male dello disagio temperassero.	57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.
