Giosuè 14

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ecco quanto possedettero i figli d'Israele nella terra di Canaan, data loro dal sacerdote Eleazaro, da Giosuè figlio di Nun e dai principi delle famiglie di ciascuna tribù d'Israele,	1 This was what the Israelites received as their heritage in Canaan, which was given them as theirheritage by the priest, Eleazar, and by Joshua son of Nun, with the heads of families of the tribes of Israel.
2 i quali distribuiron tutto a sorte alle nove tribù e mezza, come per mezzo di Mosè aveva ordinato il Signore.	2 They received their heritage by lot, as Yahweh had ordered through Moses, as regards the nine tribesand the half-tribe.
3 A due tribù e mezza aveva già dato il loro possesso Mosè, di là dal Giordano: furon tralasciati i leviti, che non ricevettero alcun territorio tra i loro fratelli;	3 For Moses himself had given the two-and-a-half tribes their heritage on the further side of the Jordan,although to the Levites he had given no heritage with them.
4 ma in loro luogo sottentrarono i figli di Giuseppe, divisi in due tribù, Manasse ed Efraim. I leviti non ebbero altra parte nel paese, oltre le città per abitarvi coi loro sobborghi per mantenere i loro armenti e greggi.	4 Since the sons of Joseph formed two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, no share in the country wasgiven to the Levites, apart from some towns to live in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and theirpossessions.
5 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, cosi fecero i figli d'Israele e divisero il paese.	5 The Israelites did as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and shared out the country.
6 Presentatisi a Giosuè in Galgala i figli di Giuda, Caleb, figlio di Iefone, Cenezeo, gli disse: «Tu sai quello che il Signore disse di me e di te a Mosè, uomo di Dio, in Cadesbarne.	6 Some sons of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him,'You know what Yahweh said to Moses, man of God, at Kadesh-Barnea concerning you and me.
7 Io avevo quarantanni, quando Mosè, servo del Signore, mi mandò da Cadesbarne ad esplorare la terra. Io gli riferii quello che mi sembrava vero;	7 I was forty years old when Moses, servant of Yahweh, sent me from Kadesh-Barnea to reconnoitre thiscountry, and I made him a completely honest report.
8 ma i miei fratelli, che eran venuti con me, scoraggiarono il popolo, mentre io ho seguito il Signore mio Dio.	8 The brothers, however, who had gone up with me discouraged the people, whereas I myselfscrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God.
9 E Mosè in quel giorno giurò dicendo: La terra che il tuo piede ha calcata sarà possesso tuo e dei tuoi figli in perpetuo; perchè tu hai seguito il Signore mio Dio.	9 That day Moses swore this oath, "Be sure of this, that the country your foot has trodden wil be aheritage for you and your children for ever, since you have scrupulously obeyed Yahweh my God."
10 Il Signore mi ha accordato la vita secondo la sua promessa, fino al presente. Sono quarantacinque anni da che il Signore disse quella parola a Mosè, quando Israele andava per il deserto. Oggi io ho ottantacinque anni;	10 From then til now, Yahweh has kept me alive in observance of his promise. It is forty-five years sinceYahweh said this to Moses -- Israel was then going through the desert -- and now I am eighty-five years old.
11 ma sono forte come quando fui mandato ad esplorare: la robustezza d'allora continua in me sino ad oggi, tanto per combattere che per marciare.	11 Today I am stil as strong as the day when Moses sent me out on that errand; for fighting, for goingand coming, I am as strong now as then.
12 Dammi adunque questo monte che il Signore, come tu stesso udisti, mi ha promesso. Vi sono degli Enacim, delle città grandi e fortificate; ma, se il Signore è con me, io li potrò sterminare, come egli ha promesso ».	12 It is time you gave me the highlands, of which Yahweh spoke to me that day. You heard that day thatthere were Anakim and large, fortified towns there; but if Yahweh is with me, I shal drive them out, as Yahwehhas said.'
13 E Giosuè, dopo averlo benedetto, gli diede in possesso Ebron,	13 Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as heritage.
14 che da quel giorno fino ad oggi è stato di Caleb Cenezeo, figlio di lefone, perchè egli seguì il Signore Dio d'Israele.	14 And hence Hebron down to the present day has remained the heritage of Caleb son of Jephunnehthe Kenizzite, since he had scrupulously obeyed Yahweh, God of Israel.
15 Ebron avanti era chiamata Cariatarbe: Adamo, il più grande degli Enacim, ivi è sepolto. E la terra ebbe riposo dalle guerre.	15 Hebron in olden days was cal ed Kiriath-Arba. Arba had been the greatest of the Anakim. And thecountry had rest from warfare.
