BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E Balaam disse a Balac: « Alzami qui sette altari, e preparami sette vitelli e sette montoni ».	1 Balaam said to Balak, 'Build me seven altars here and prepare me seven bulls and seven rams.'
2 Eseguiti gli ordini di Balaam, posero insieme un vitello e un montone sopra, ciascun altare.	2 Balak did as Balaam said and offered a burnt offering of one bul and one ram on each altar.
3 E Balaam disse a Balac: « Sta un poco presso il tuo olocausto, che io vado a vedere se mi viene incontro il Signore, e e poi ti riferirò tutto quello che m'imporrà ».	3 Balaam then said to Balak, 'Stand beside your burnt offerings while I go away. Perhaps Yahweh wilcome and meet me. If he does, I shal tel you whatever he reveals to me.' And he withdrew to a bare hil .
4 Ed essendo egli partito in fretta, gli venne incontro Dio. E Balaam gli disse: « Ho eretti sette altari, ed ho messo sopra ciascuno un vitello e un montone ».	4 God came to meet Balaam, who said to him, 'I have prepared the seven altars and offered a burntoffering of one bul and one ram on each altar.'
5 E il Signore mise la parola nella sua bocca e disse: « Torna, a Balac e parla così ».	5 Yahweh then put a prophecy into his mouth and said to him, 'Go back to Balak, and that is what youmust say to him.'
6 Ed egli tornato a Balac, lo trovò in piedi presso il suo olocausto con tutti i principi dei Moabiti;	6 So Balaam went back to him, and found him stil standing beside his burnt offering, with all the chiefsof Moab.
7 e presa la parola disse: « Da Aram mi ha fatto venire Balac, il re dei Moabiti, dalle montagne d'Oriente: Vieni, mi disse, madelici, Giacobbe, affrettati e detesta Israele.	7 He then declaimed his poem as fol ows: Balak has brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from thehil s of Kedem: 'Come and curse Jacob for me, come and denounce Israel!'
8 Come maledirò colui che Dio non ha maledetto? Come detesterò colui che il Signore non detesta?	8 How shal I curse someone whom God has not cursed, how denounce someone God has notdenounced?
9 Io lo guardo dalle sommità delle rupi, lo contemplo dalle colline: questo è un popolo che se ne starà solo e non sarà annoverato tra le altre nazioni.	9 Yes, from the top of the crags I see him, from the hills I descry him: a people that dwel s on its own,not to be reckoned among other nations!
10 Chi può contare la polvere di Giacobbe e sapere il numero della stirpe d'Israele? Che io muoia della morte dei giusti, e il mio fine sia simile al loro ».	10 Who can count the dust of Jacob? Who can number the cloud of Israel? May I die the death of thejust, and may my future be like theirs!
11 E Balac disse a Balaam: « Ma che tu mi fai? T'ho chiamato a maledire i miei nemici, e invece, li benedici. »	11 Balak said to Balaam, 'What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, and youhave heaped blessings on them!'
12 Balaam gli rispose: « Posso forse dir altro al di fuori di quello che il signore ha comandato?	12 Balaam replied, 'Am I to depart from what Yahweh puts into my mouth?'
13 E Balac allora gli disse: « Vieni con me in un altro luogo da cui tu vegga una parte d'Israele, ma non tutto, e di lì lo maledirai ».	13 Balak then said, 'Please come somewhere else. From here you can see only the fringe of them, youcannot see them al . Curse them for me over there.'
14 E lo condusse in un luogo elevato, sulla cima del monte Easga ove Balaam, eletti sette altari e posto sopra ciascuno un vitello e un montone,	14 He led him to the Lookouts' Field on the top of Pisgah. There he built seven altars and offered aburnt offering of one bul and one ram on each altar.
15 disse a Balam: Sta qui presso al tuo olocausto che io gli andrò incontro ».	15 Balaam said to Balak, 'Stand here beside your burnt offerings while I wait over there.'
16 E il Signore gli venne incontro e, messagli la parola in bocca, gli disse: « Ritorna a Balac e parla così».	16 God came to meet Balaam, he put a prophecy into his mouth and said to him, 'Go back to Balak,and that is what you must say to him.'
17 Balaam, tornato da Baine, lo trovò che stava in piedi presso il suo olocausto insieme coi principi dei Moabiti. E Baine gli disse: « Che ha detto il Signore? »	17 So Balaam went to him and found him stil standing beside his burnt offering and all the chiefs ofMoab with him. 'What did Yahweh say?' Balak said to him.
18 Allora, Balaam, presa la sua, parabola, disse: a Levati, o Balac e ascolta, stammi a sentire, o figlio di Iefar:	18 Balaam then declaimed his poem, as fol ows: Stand up, Balak, and listen, give ear to me, son ofZippor.
19 Dio non è come l'uomo che può mentire, nè come il figlio dell'uomo che può mutarsi. Quando ha detto una cosa, senza poi farla? Quando ha parlato, non manterrà la parola!	19 God is no human being that he should lie, no child of Adam to change his mind. Is it his to say andnot to do, is it his to speak and not fulfil?
20 Son costretto a benedire, e non posso impedire la benedizione.	20 The charge laid on me is to bless, I shal bless, and I cannot reverse it.
21 Non v'è idolo in Giacobbe, non apparisce simulacro in Israele: il Signore suo Dio è con lui, e in lui è lo squillo della vittoria del re.	21 I have perceived no guilt in Jacob, have seen no perversity in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him,and a royal acclamation to greet him.
22 Dio lo trasse dall'Egitto; la sua, forza è simile a quella del rinoceronte;	22 God has brought him out of Egypt, is like the wild ox's horns to him.
23 non v'è magia in Giacobbe, nè divinazione in Israele. Si dirà a suo tempo a Giacobbe, a Israele ciò che ha fatto il Signore.	23 There is no omen whatever against Jacob, no augury at al against Israel. Wel may people say ofJacob, of Israel, 'What has God achieved?'
24 Ecco un popolo si leverà qual leonessa, e si alzerà come leone: non si sdraierà, finche non abbia divorata la preda e bevuto il sangue degli uccisi ».	24 for here is a people like a lioness rising, poised like a lion to spring; nor wil he lie down till he hasdevoured his prey and drunk the blood of his slain.
25 Allora Balac disse a Balaam: « Se non vuoi maledirlo, almeno non lo benedire! »	25 Balak said to Balaam, 'Very wel ! Do not curse them. But at least do not bless them!'
26 Ma egli rispose: « Non te l'ho detto che avrei fatto tutto quello che il Signore comandasse? »	26 Balaam retorted to Balak, 'Did I not tel you? Whatever Yahweh says, I must do.'
27 E Balac disse a Balaam: « Vieni, ti condurrò in un altro luogo, se mai piacesse a Dio che tu li maledica di la ».	27 Balak then said to Balaam, 'Come with me now and I shal take you somewhere else. From thereperhaps it wil please God to curse them for me.'
28 E Io condusse sulla cima, del monte Fogor, che guarda il deserto;	28 So Balak led Balaam to the summit of Peor, overlooking the wastelands.
29 Ove Balam gli disse: « Edificami qui sette altari e prepara sette vitelli e setti montoni ».	29 Balaam then said to Balak, 'Build me seven altars here and prepare me seven bul s and sevenrams.'
30 Balac fece secondo gli ordini di Balaam è pose un vitello e un montone sopra ciascun altare.	30 Balak did as Balaam said and offered a burnt offering of one bull and one ram on each altar.
