BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E il Signore m'indirizzò la parola e disse:	1 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
2 « Va a gridare negli orecchi di Gerusalemme, a dire: Queste cose dice il Signore: Mi son ricordato di te, avendo pietà della tua adolescenza, e dell'amore del tuo sposalizio, quando mi seguisti nel deserto, in terra non coltivata.	2 'Go and shout this in Jerusalem's ears: 'Yahweh says this: "I remember your faithful love, the affection ofyour bridal days, when you fol owed me through the desert, through a land unsown.
3 Israele è consacrato al Signore, è la primizia dei suoi frutti; tutti quelli che lo divorano si rendono colpevoli, sopra di essi piomberanno le sventure — dice il Signore. —	3 Israel was sacred to Yahweh; the first-fruits of his harvest; al who ate this incurred guilt, disaster befelthem, Yahweh declares." '
4 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, o casa di Giacobbe, e voi tutte, o famiglie della casa d'Israele.	4 Listen to Yahweh's word, House of Jacob and al the families of the House of Israel.
5 Così parla il Signore: Quale ingiustizia trovarono in me i vostri padri, per allontanarsi da me e andar dietro alla vanità e diventar vani?	5 Yahweh says this, 'What did your ancestors find wrong in me for them to have deserted me so far as tofol ow Futility and become futile themselves?
6 Essi non dissero: — Dov'è il Signore che ci fece uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, e ci guidò attraverso il deserto, per terre disabitate e impraticabili, per terre aride e imagine della morte, per terre nelle quali nessuno passò, nessuno abitò?	6 They never said, "Where is Yahweh, who brought us out of Egypt and led us through the desert, througha land of plains and ravines, through a land of drought, of shadow dark as death, a land through which no onepasses and where no human being lives?"
7 E vi feci entrare nella terra del Carmelo, a mangiarne i frutti e le delizie, e voi, entrati che foste, la contaminaste la mia terra, faceste della mia eredità un'abominazione.	7 I brought you to a country of plenty, to enjoy its produce and good things; but when you entered youdefiled my country and made my heritage loathsome.
8 I sacerdoti non dissero: — Dov'è il Signore? — e, depositari della legge, non conobbero me, contro di me han prevaricato i pastori, e i profeti han profetato in nome di Baal, e sono andati dietro agli idoli.	8 The priests never asked, "Where is Yahweh?" Those skilled in the Law did not know me, the shepherdstoo rebel ed against me and the prophets prophesied by Baal and fol owed the Useless Ones.
9 Per questo io contenderò in giudizio con voi — dice il Signore — e disputerò coi vostri figlioli.	9 So I must state my case against you once more, Yahweh declares, and state my case against yourchildren's children:
10 Passate alle isole di Cetim, e guardate, mandate a Cedar ed esaminate attentamente, e notate se è mai avvenuta una cosa come questa	10 Cross to the isles of the Kittim and look, send to Kedar and careful y observe, see if anything like thishas happened before!
11 se una nazione ha mutato i suoi dèi, — e quelli non son dèi certamente — eppure il mio popolo ha cambiata la sua gloria in un idolo.	11 Does a nation change its gods? - and these are not gods at al ! Yet my people have exchanged theirGlory for the Useless One!
12 Stupitene, o cieli, fatene gran cordoglio, o porte del Cielo, — dice il Signore.	12 You heavens, stand aghast at this, horrified, utterly appalled, Yahweh declares.
13 Due mali ha fatto il popolo mio: hanno abbandonato me, sorgente di acqua viva, e si sono andati a scavare delle cisterne, cisterne bucherellate, che non possono tenere le acque.	13 For my people have committed two crimes: they have abandoned me, the fountain of living water, anddug water-tanks for themselves, cracked water-tanks that hold no water.
14 Israele è forse uno schiavo, o figlio di uno schiavo? E perchè dunque è abbandonato al saccheggio?	14 'Is Israel a slave? Was he born into serfdom, for him to be preyed on like this?
15 Contro di lui ruggirono i leoni, alzaron la loro voce; la sua terra è ridotta a un deserto, le sue città sono incendiate e senza abitanti.	15 Lions have roared at him, they have made their voices heard. They have left this country a desert, histowns lie burnt and uninhabited.
16 Anche i figli di Menti e di Tafnes t'han coperto d'obbrobrio sino alla cima del capo.	16 The people of Noph and Tahpanhes have shaved your skul !
17 E questo non è avvenuto perchè tu hai abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo, quando egli ti faceva da guida nel tuo viaggio?	17 Have you not brought this on yourself, by abandoning Yahweh your God, when he was guiding you onyour way?
18 Ed ora che vai a fare sulla via d'Egitto a bere l'acqua torbida? Che vai a fare sulla via d'Assiria, a bere l'acqua del fiume?	18 What is the good of going to Egypt now to drink the water of the Nile? What is the good of going toAssyria to drink the water of the River?
19 La tua malizia ti accuserà, la tua ribellione ti condannerà. Riconosci adunque alla prova com'è doloroso ed amaro avere abbandonato il Signore Dio tuo, non avere in te il mio timore — dice il Signore Dio degli eserciti.	19 Your wickedness wil bring its own punishment, your infidelities wil bring you to book, so give thoughtand see how evil and bitter it is to abandon Yahweh your God and not to stand in awe of me, the Lord YahwehSabaoth declares.
20 Già da gran tempo hai spezzato il mio giogo, hai rotto i miei legami, hai detto: — Non servirò. — Infatti sopra ogni alto colle, sotto ogni pianta ombrosa tu ti stendevi, o meretrice.	20 'It is long ago now since you broke your yoke, burst your bonds and said, "I wil not serve!" Yet on every high hil and under every green tree you have sprawled and played the whore.
21 Io ti piantai, come vigna eletta, tutta con ottimi magliuoli, come dunque mi ti sei mutata in cattiva, o vigna bastarda?	21 Yet I had planted you, a red vine of completely sound stock. How is it you have turned into seedlings of a vine that is alien to me?
22 Anche se ti lavi col nitro e usi in abbondanza erba di borit, dinanzi a me sei macchiata per la tua iniquità, — dice il Signore Dio.	22 Even though you scrub yourself with soda and put in quantities of soap, the stain of your guilt would stilbe visible to me, the Lord Yahweh declares.
23 Come osi dire: — Non son contaminata, non sono andata dietro ai Baal? Mira le tracce dei tuoi passi nella Valle, riconosci quello che hai fatto, cammella leggera e vagante per le strade,	23 How dare you say, "I am not defiled, I have not run after the Baals?" Look at your behaviour in theVal ey, realise what you have done.
24 asina sei vaggia avvezza al deserto; nell'ardore della sua brama fiuta il vento del suo amore, nessuno potrà rattenerla, chiunque la cerchi non ha da durare grande fatica: la troverà nelle sue sordidezze.	24 A wild she-donkey, at home in the desert, snuffing the breeze in desire; who can control her when sheis on heat? Males need not trouble to look for her, they wil find her in her month.
25 Guarda che il tuo piede non sia nudo e la tua gola secca. Ma tu hai detto: — Non ho più speranza, non ne farò niente, perchè amo gli stranieri, e andrò dietro a loro.	25 Beware! Your own foot will go unshod, your own throat grow dry! But you said, "It is no use! No! For Ilove the Strangers and they are the ones I shal fol ow."
26 Come rimane confuso un ladro preso sul fatto, così son rimasti confusi quelli della casa d'Israele, essi, i loro re, i principi, i sacerdoti, i profeti loro,	26 'Like a thief ashamed at being caught, so wil the House of Israel be: they, their kings, their chief men,their priests and their prophets,
27 che han detto al legno: — Tu sei il mio padre — e alla pietra: — Tu mi hai generato; — mi voltarono le spalle e non la faccia e nel tempo della loro afflizione diranno: — Alzati e salvaci. —	27 who say to a piece of wood, "You are my father," and to a stone, "You gave birth to me." For they turn to me their backs, never their faces; yet when trouble comes they shout, "Get up! Save us!"
28 Dove sono i tuoi dèi che tu hai fatti? Sorgano a salvarti nel tempo della tua afflizione. Eppure quante le tue città erano i tuoi dèi, o Giuda.	28 Where are your gods you made for yourself? Let them get up if they can save you when trouble comes!For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah!
29 Perchè volete contender con me in giudizio? Mi avete abbandonato tutti — dice il Signore.	29 Why make out a case against me? You have al rebel ed against me, Yahweh declares.
30 Invano ho castigato i vostri figlioli: non hanno presa la corre­zione: la vostra spada divorò i vo­stri profeti, come leone devasta­tore.	30 In vain I have struck your children, they have not accepted correction; your own sword has devouredyour prophets like a marauding lion.
31 Che razza la vostra! Pone­te mente a ciò che dice il Signore: — Son forse diventato un deser­to per Israele, o una terra tardi­va? perchè dunque il mio popoloha detto: — Ci siam ritirati, non verremo più da te? —	31 Now you of this generation, listen to what Yahweh says: Have I been a desert for Israel, or a land ofgloom? Why do my people say, "We are our own masters, we wil come to you no more"?
32 può for­se una vergine dimenticare i suoiornamenti, o una sposa la sua cintura? Eppure il mio popolo m'ha dimenticato per giorni sen­za numero.	32 Does a girl forget her ornaments, a bride her sash? And yet my people have forgotten me, daysbeyond number.
33 Perchè ti sforzi di mostrar buona la tua condotta, per cerca­re amore, tu, che invece le tue ma­lizie insegni e i tuoi modi di fare,	33 'How wel you set your course in pursuit of love! And so you have schooled your ways to wicked deeds.
34 ed hai fatto trovare nei lembi della tua veste il sangue dei po­veri e degli innocenti? Io non li ho trovati nelle fosse, ma in tutti i luoghi ricordati.	34 The very skirts of your robe are stained with the blood of the poor, of innocent men you never caughtbreaking and entering! And in spite of al this,
35 E tu a dire: — Io sono senza peccato, sono innocente: s'allontani dunque da me il tuo furore. — Ecco io contenderò teco in giudizio su quello che hai detto: — Non ho peccato. —	35 you say, "I am innocent, let his anger turn from me!" Now I pass sentence on you for saying, "I have not sinned."
36 Quanto sei diventata vile col ritornare al tuo modo di fare! Tu, sarai burlata dall'Egitto, come sei già stata burlata dall'Assiria.	36 'How frivolously you undertake a change of course! But you will be disappointed by Egypt just as youwere by Assyria.
37 Infatti anche dall'Egitto tornerai colle mani sul capo, perchè il Signore ha distrutta la tua speranza, e nulla ivi ti riuscirà bene.	37 You wil have to leave there too with your hands on your head, for Yahweh has rejected those that yourely on, you will come to no good with them.'
