1 T'hanno messo a capo? Non te ne insuperbire: stai in mezzo a loro come uno di essi.	1 If you are chosen to preside at dinner, be not puffed up, but with the guests be as one of themselves; Take care of them first before you sit down;
2 Abbine cura e poi mettiti a sedere, e, compito in tutto il tuo ufficio, mettiti a tavola.	2 when you have fulfilled your duty, then take your place, To share in their joy and win praise for your hospitality.
3 Così avrai da loro allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento riceverai la corona, ed otterrai la stima dei convitati.	3 Being older, you may talk; that is only your right, but temper your wisdom, not to disturb the singing.
4 Parla, o anziano; tocca a te.	4 When wine is present, do not pour out discourse, and flaunt not your wisdom at the wrong time.
5 Ma con scelte parole, con sagace dottrina, e non impedir la musica.	5 Like a seal of carnelian in a setting of gold is a concert when wine is served.
6 Dove non c'è chi ascolti non buttar via le parole, e non fare importuna pompa di tua sapienza.	6 Like a gold mounting with an emerald seal is string music with delicious wine.

12 In molte cose diportati come se nulla sapessi, e ascolta tacendo e domandando.	12 And there enjoy doing as you wish, but without sin or words of pride.
13 In mezzo ai grandi non presumere di te, e dove son dei vecchi non parlar molto.	13 Above all, give praise to your Creator, who showers his favors upon you.
14 Avanti la grandine viene il lampo, e la grazia è preceduta dalla modestia, e per la tua riservatezza tu sarai ben veduto.	14 He who would find God must accept discipline; he who seeks him obtains his request.
15 Venuta l'ora di alzarsi, non ti ninnolare, ma sii il primo ad andare a casa tua, e li divertiti e li gioca,	15 He who studies the law masters it, but the hypocrite finds it a trap.
16 e fai quel che ti viene in mento; ma senza peccare, senza parlar con superbia.	16 His judgment is sound who fears the LORD; out of obscurity he draws forth a clear plan.
17 E in tutte queste cose benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto e t'inebria con tutti i suoi beni.	17 The sinner turns aside reproof and distorts the law to suit his purpose.
18 Chi teme il Signore ne abbraccerà gl'insegnamenti, e chi avrà vegliato per cercarlo troverà la be nedizione.	18 The thoughtful man will not neglect direction; the proud and insolent man is deterred by nothing.
19 Chi cerca la legge ne sarà saziato, e chi agisce con finzione troverà in essa pietra di inciampo.	19 Do nothing without counsel, and then you need have no regrets.
20 Chi teme il Signore troverà il modo di giudicare rettamente, e farà brillare come fiaccola la giustizia.	20 Go not on a way that is set with snares, and let not the same thing trip you twice.
21 L'uomo peccatore fuggirà la correzione e troverà delle scuse per fare a suo capriccio.	21 Be not too sure even of smooth roads,
22 L'uomo prudente non trascura di riflettere, lo sventato e il superbo non ammette timori,	22 be careful on all your paths.
23 anche dopo aver fatto di sua testa e senza consiglio; ma sarà condannato dalle sue opere.	23 Whatever you do, be on your guard, for in this way you will keep the commandments.
24 Figliolo, non far niente senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirtene quando l'avrai fatto.	24 He who keeps the law preserves himself; and he who trusts in the LORD shall not be put to shame.
25 Non camminare per vie rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi. Non ti impegnare in via faticosa, per non esporre alla caduta l'anima tua.
26 Guardati anche dai tuoi figlioli, e stai attento alla gente di casa tua.
27 In ogni tua azione affidati alla fede dell'anima tua, chè in questo sta l'osservanza dei comandamenti.
28 Chi crede in Dio sta attento ai suoi comandamenti, e chi confida in lui non resterà deluso.
