Epístola aos Hebreus 12

1 Desse modo, cercados como estamos de uma tal nuvem de testemunhas, desvencilhemo-nos das cadeias do pecado. Corramos com perseverança ao combate proposto, com o olhar fixo no autor e consumador de nossa fé, Jesus.	1 Furthermore, since we also have so great a cloud of witnesses over us, let us set aside every burden and sin which may surround us, and advance, through patience, to the struggle offered to us.
2 Em vez de gozo que se lhe oferecera, ele suportou a cruz e está sentado à direita do trono de Deus.	2 Let us gaze upon Jesus, as the Author and the completion of our faith, who, having joy laid out before him, endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and who now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Considerai, pois, atentamente aquele que sofreu tantas contrariedades dos pecadores, e não vos deixeis abater pelo desânimo.	3 So then, meditate upon him who endured such adversity from sinners against himself, so that you may not become weary, failing in your souls.
4 Ainda não tendes resistido até o sangue, na luta contra o pecado.	4 For you have not yet resisted unto blood, while striving against sin.
5 Estais esquecidos da palavra de animação que vos é dirigida como a filhos: Filho meu, não desprezes a correção do Senhor. Não desanimes, quando repreendido por ele;	5 And you have forgotten the consolation which speaks to you like sons, saying: “My son, do not be willing to neglect the discipline of the Lord. Neither should you become weary, while being rebuked by him.”
6 pois o Senhor corrige a quem ama e castiga todo aquele que reconhece por seu filho {Pr 3,11s}.	6 For whomever the Lord loves, he chastises. And every son whom he accepts, he scourges.
7 Estais sendo provados para a vossa correção: é Deus que vos trata como filhos. Ora, qual é o filho a quem seu pai não corrige?	7 Persevere in discipline. God presents you to himself as sons. But what son is there, whom his father does not correct?
8 Mas se permanecêsseis sem a correção que é comum a todos, seríeis bastardos e não filhos legítimos.	8 But if you are without that discipline in which all have become sharers, then you are of adultery, and you are not sons.
9 Aliás, temos na terra nossos pais que nos corrigem e, no entanto, os olhamos com respeito. Com quanto mais razão nos havemos de submeter ao Pai de nossas almas, o qual nos dará a vida?	9 Then, too, we have certainly had the fathers of our flesh as instructors, and we reverenced them. Should we not obey the Father of spirits all the more, and so live?
10 Os primeiros nos educaram para pouco tempo, segundo a sua própria conveniência, ao passo que este o faz para nosso bem, para nos comunicar sua santidade.	10 And indeed, for a few days and according to their own wishes, they instructed us. But he does so to our benefit, so that we may receive his sanctification.
11 E verdade que toda correção parece, de momento, antes motivo de pesar que de alegria. Mais tarde, porém, granjeia aos que por ela se exercitaram o melhor fruto de justiça e de paz.	11 Now every discipline, in the present time, does not seem a gladness, of course, but a grief. But afterwards, it will repay a most peaceful fruit of justice to those who become trained in it.
12 Levantai, pois, vossas mãos fatigadas e vossos joelhos trêmulos {Is 35,3}.	12 Because of this, lift up your lazy hands and your lax knees,
13 Dirigi os vossos passos pelo caminho certo. Os que claudicam tornem ao bom caminho e não se desviem.	13 and straighten the path of your feet, so that no one, being lame, may wander astray, but instead may be healed.
14 Procurai a paz com todos e ao mesmo tempo a santidade, sem a qual ninguém pode ver o Senhor.	14 Pursue peace with everyone. Pursue sanctity, without which no one shall see God.
15 Estai alerta para que ninguém deixe passar a graça de Deus, e para que não desponte nenhuma planta amarga, capaz de estragar e contaminar a massa inteira.	15 Be contemplative, lest anyone lack the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness spring up and impede you, and by it, many might be defiled,
16 Que não haja entre vós ninguém sensual nem profanador como Esaú, que, por um prato de comida, vendeu o seu direito de primogenitura.	16 lest any fornicator or worldly person be like Esau, who, for the sake of one meal, sold his birthright.
17 E sabeis que, desejando ele em seguida receber a bênção do herdeiro, lhe foi recusada. E não bastaram todas as súplicas e lágrimas para que seu pai mudasse de sentimento...	17 For you know that afterwards, when he desired to inherit the benediction, he was rejected. For he found no place for repentance, even though he had sought it with tears.
18 Em verdade, não vos aproximastes de uma montanha palpável, invadida por fogo violento, nuvem, trevas, tempestade,	18 But you have not drawn near to a tangible mountain, or a burning fire, or a whirlwind, or a mist, or a storm,
19 som da trombeta e aquela voz tão terrível que os que a ouviram suplicaram que ela não lhes falasse mais.	19 or the sound of a trumpet, or a voice of words. Those who had experienced these things excused themselves, lest the Word be spoken to them.
20 Estavam verdadeiramente aterrados por esta ordem: Todo aquele que tocar a montanha, mesmo que seja um animal, será apedrejado {Ex 19,12}.	20 For they could not bear what was said, and so, if even a beast would have touched the mountain, it would have been stoned.
21 E tão terrível era o espetáculo, que Moisés exclamou: Eu tremo de pavor {Dt 9,19}.	21 And what was seen was so terrible that even Moses said: “I am terrified, and so, I tremble.”
22 Vós, ao contrário, vos aproximastes da montanha de Sião, da cidade do Deus vivo, da Jerusalém celestial, das miríades de anjos,	22 But you have drawn near to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of Angels,
23 da assembléia festiva dos primeiros inscritos no livro dos céus, e de Deus, juiz universal, e das almas dos justos que chegaram à perfeição,	23 and to the Church of the first-born, those who have been inscribed in the heavens, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect,
24 enfim, de Jesus, o mediador da Nova Aliança, e do sangue da aspersão, que fala com mais eloqüência que o sangue de Abel.	24 and to Jesus, the Mediator of the New Testament, and to a sprinkling of blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
25 Guardai-vos, pois, de recusar ouvir aquele que fala. Porque, se não escaparam do castigo aqueles que dele se desviaram, quando lhes falava na terra, muito menos escaparemos nós, se o repelirmos, quando nos fala desde o céu.	25 Be careful not to reject the One who is speaking. For if those who rejected him who was speaking upon the earth were not able to escape, so much more we who might turn away from the One who is speaking to us from heaven.
26 Depois de ter outrora abalado a terra pela sua voz, ele hoje nos faz esta solene declaração: Ainda uma vez por todas moverei, não só a terra, mas também o céu {Ag 2,6}.	26 Then, his voice moved the earth. But now, he makes a promise, saying: “There is still one more time, and then I will move, not only the earth, but also heaven itself.”
27 As palavras ainda uma vez indicam o desaparecimento do que é caduco, do que foi criado, para que só subsista o que é imutável.	27 And so, in saying, “There is still one more time,” he declares the transfer of the moveable things of creation, so that those things which are immoveable may remain.
28 sim, possuindo nós um reino inabalável, dediquemos a Deus um reconhecimento que lhe torne agradável o nosso culto com temor e respeito.	28 Thus, in receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace. So, through grace, let us be of service, by pleasing God with fear and reverence.
29 Porque nosso Deus é um fogo devorador {Dt 4,24}.	29 For our God is a consuming fire.
