Segunda Epístola a Timóteo 1

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Paulo, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo pela vontade de Deus para anunciar a promessa da vida que está em Jesus Cristo,	1 From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through the wil of God in accordance with his promise of life in ChristJesus,
2 a Timóteo, filho caríssimo: graça, misericórdia, paz, da parte de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor!	2 to Timothy, dear son of mine. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus ourLord.
3 Dou graças a Deus, a quem sirvo com pureza de consciência, tal como aprendi de meus pais, e me lembro de ti sem cessar nas minhas orações, de noite e de dia.	3 Night and day I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my ancestors did. I remember you inmy prayers constantly night and day;
4 Quando me vêm ao pensamento as tuas lágrimas, sinto grande desejo de te ver para me encher de alegria.	4 I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my joy.
5 Conservo a lembrança daquela tua fé tão sincera, que foi primeiro a de tua avó Lóide e de tua mãe Eunice e que, não tenho a menor dúvida, habita em ti também.	5 I also remember your sincere faith, a faith which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your motherEunice, and I am sure dwel s also in you.
6 Por esse motivo, eu te exorto a reavivar a chama do dom de Deus que recebeste pela imposição das minhas mãos.	6 That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through thelaying on of my hands.
7 Pois Deus não nos deu um espírito de timidez, mas de fortaleza, de amor e de sabedoria.	7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control.
8 Não te envergonhes, portanto, do testemunho de nosso Senhor, nem de mim, seu prisioneiro, mas sofre comigo pelo Evangelho, fortificado pelo poder de Deus.	8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; butshare in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God
9 Deus nos salvou e chamou para a santidade, não em atenção às nossas obras, mas em virtude do seu desígnio, da graça que desde a eternidade nos destinou em Cristo Jesus,	9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for hisown purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before thebeginning of time,
10 e agora nos manifestou mediante a aparição de nosso Salvador Jesus Cristo, que destruiu a morte e suscitou a vida e a imortalidade, pelo Evangelho,	10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death,and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel,
11 do qual fui constituído pregador, apóstolo e mestre entre os gentios.	11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher.
12 É este o motivo por que estou sofrendo assim. Mas não me queixo, não. Sei em quem pus minha confiança, e estou certo de que é assaz poderoso para guardar meu depósito até aquele dia.	12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom Ihave put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted tohim.
13 Toma por modelo os ensinamentos salutares que recebeste de mim sobre a fé e o amor a Jesus Cristo.	13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are inChrist Jesus.
14 Guarda o precioso depósito, pela virtude do Espírito Santo que habita em nós.	14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwel s in us, look after that precious thing given in trust.
15 Sabes que todos os da Ásia se apartaram de mim, entre eles Figelo e Hermógenes.	15 As you know, Phygelus and Hermogenes and al the others in Asia have deserted me.
16 O Senhor conceda sua misericórdia à casa de Onesíforo, que muitas vezes me reconfortou e não se envergonhou das minhas cadeias!	16 I hope the Lord wil be kind to al the family of Onesiphorus, because he has often been a comfort tome and has never been ashamed of my chains.
17 Pelo contrário, quando veio a Roma, procurou-me com solicitude e me encontrou.	17 On the contrary, as soon as he reached Rome, he searched hard for me and found me.
18 O Senhor lhe conceda a graça de obter misericórdia junto do Senhor naquele dia. Sabes melhor que ninguém quantos bons serviços ele prestou em Éfeso.	18 May the Lord grant him to find the Lord's mercy on that Day. You know better than anyone else howmuch he helped me at Ephesus.
