Atos dos Apóstolos 18

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Depois disso, saindo de Atenas, Paulo dirigiu-se a Corinto.	1 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth,
2 Encontrou ali um judeu chamado Áquila, natural do Ponto, e sua mulher Priscila. Eles pouco antes haviam chegado da Itália, por Cláudio ter decretado que todos os judeus saíssem de Roma. Paulo uniu-se a eles.	2 where he met a Jew called Aquila whose family came from Pontus. He and his wife Priscil a hadrecently left Italy because an edict of Claudius had expel ed al the Jews from Rome. Paul went to visit them,
3 Como exercessem o mesmo ofício, morava e trabalhava com eles. {Eram fabricantes de tendas.}	3 and when he found they were tentmakers, of the same trade as himself, he lodged with them, and theyworked together.
4 Todos os sábados ele falava na sinagoga e procurava convencer os judeus e os gregos.	4 Every Sabbath he used to hold debates in the synagogues, trying to convert Jews as wel as Greeks.
5 Quando Silas e Timóteo chegaram da Macedônia, Paulo dedicou-se inteiramente à pregação da palavra, dando aos judeus testemunho de que Jesus era o Messias.	5 After Silas and Timothy had arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted al his time to preaching, declaringto the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
6 Mas como esses contradissessem e o injuriassem, ele, sacudindo as vestes, disse-lhes: O vosso sangue caia sobre a vossa cabeça! Tenho as mãos inocentes. Desde agora vou para o meio dos gentios.	6 When they turned against him and started to insult him, he took his cloak and shook it out in front ofthem, saying, 'Your blood be on your own heads; from now on I wil go to the gentiles with a clear conscience.'
7 Saindo dali, entrou em casa de um prosélito, chamado Tício Justo, cuja casa era contígua à sinagoga.	7 Then he left the synagogue and moved to the house next door that belonged to a worshipper of Godcal ed Justus.
8 Entretanto Crispo, o chefe da sinagoga, acreditou no Senhor com todos os da sua casa. Sabendo disso, muitos dos coríntios, ouvintes de Paulo, acreditaram e foram batizados.	8 Crispus, president of the synagogue, and his whole household, al became believers in the Lord. ManyCorinthians when they heard this became believers and were baptised.
9 Numa noite, o Senhor disse a Paulo em visão: Não temas! Fala e não te cales.	9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision, 'Be fearless; speak out and do not keep silence:
10 Porque eu estou contigo. Ninguém se aproximará de ti para te fazer mal, pois tenho um numeroso povo nesta cidade.	10 I am with you. I have so many people that belong to me in this city that no one wil attempt to hurtyou.'
11 Paulo deteve-se ali um ano e seis meses, ensinando a eles a palavra de Deus.	11 So Paul stayed there preaching the word of God among them for eighteen months.
12 Sendo Galião procônsul da Acaia, levantaram-se os judeus de comum acordo contra Paulo e levaram-no ao tribunal e disseram:	12 But while Gal io was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a concerted attack on Paul and brought himbefore the tribunal, saying,
13 Este homem persuade os ouvintes a {adotar} um culto contrário à lei.	13 'We accuse this man of persuading people to worship God in a way that breaks the Law.'
14 Paulo ia falar, mas Galião disse aos judeus: Se fosse, na realidade, uma injustiça ou verdadeiro crime, seria razoável que vos atendesse.	14 Before Paul could open his mouth, Gal io said to the Jews, 'Listen, you Jews. If this were amisdemeanour or a crime, it would be in order for me to listen to your plea;
15 Mas se são questões de doutrina, de nomes e da vossa lei, isso é lá convosco. Não quero ser juiz dessas coisas.	15 but if it is only quibbles about words and names, and about your own Law, then you must deal with ityourselves -- I have no intention of making legal decisions about these things.'
16 E mandou-o sair do tribunal.	16 Then he began to hustle them out of the court,
17 Então todos pegaram em Sóstenes, chefe da sinagoga, e o espancaram diante do tribunal, sem que Galião fizesse caso algum disso.	17 and at once they all turned on Sosthenes, the synagogue president, and beat him in front of thetribunal. Gal io refused to take any notice at al .
18 Paulo permaneceu ali {em Corinto} ainda algum tempo. Depois se despediu dos irmãos e navegou para a Síria e com ele Priscila e Áquila. Antes, porém, cortara o cabelo em Cêncris, porque terminara um voto.	18 After staying on for some time, Paul took leave of the brothers and sailed for Syria, accompanied byPriscil a and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut off, because of a vow he had made.
19 Chegaram a Éfeso, onde os deixou. Ele entrou na sinagoga e entretinha-se com os judeus.	19 When they reached Ephesus, he left them, but first he went alone to the synagogue to debate with theJews.
20 Pediram-lhe estes que ficasse com eles ali por mais tempo, mas ele não quis.	20 They asked him to stay longer, but he declined,
21 Ao despedir-se, disse: Voltarei a vós, se Deus quiser. E partiu de Éfeso.	21 though when he took his leave he said, 'I wil come back another time, God wil ing.' Then he sailedfrom Ephesus.
22 Viajou até Cesaréia, subiu {a Jerusalém} e saudou a comunidade e logo em seguida desceu a Antioquia.	22 He landed at Caesarea and went up to greet the church. Then he came down to Antioch
23 Aí se demorou apenas por algum tempo, partiu de novo e atravessou sucessivamente as regiões da Galácia e da Frígia, fortalecendo todos os discípulos.	23 where he spent a short time before continuing his journey through the Galatian country and thenthrough Phrygia, encouraging al the followers.
24 Entrementes, um judeu chamado Apolo, natural de Alexandria, homem eloqüente e muito versado nas Escrituras, chegou a Éfeso.	24 An Alexandrian Jew named Apol os now arrived in Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, with a soundknowledge of the scriptures, and yet,
25 Era instruído no caminho do Senhor, falava com fervor de espírito e ensinava com precisão a respeito de Jesus, embora conhecesse somente o batismo de João.	25 though he had been given instruction in the Way of the Lord and preached with great spiritual fervourand was accurate in al the details he taught about Jesus, he had experienced only the baptism of John.
26 Começou, pois, a falar na sinagoga com desassombro. Como Priscila e Áquila o ouvissem, levaram-no consigo, e expuseram-lhe mais profundamente o caminho do Senhor.	26 He began to teach fearlessly in the synagogue and, when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, theyattached themselves to him and gave him more detailed instruction about the Way.
27 Como ele quisesse ir à Acaia, os irmãos animaram-no e escreveram aos discípulos que o recebessem bem. A sua presença {em Corinto} foi, pela graça de Deus, de muito proveito para os que haviam crido,	27 When Apol os thought of crossing over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote asking thedisciples to welcome him. When he arrived there he was able by God's grace to help the believers considerably
28 pois com grande veemência refutava publicamente os judeus, provando, pelas Escrituras, que Jesus era o Messias.	28 by the energetic way he refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the scriptures that Jesus wasthe Christ.
