Atos dos Apóstolos 13

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Havia então na Igreja de Antioquia profetas e doutores, entre eles Barnabé, Simão, apelidado o Negro, Lúcio de Cirene, Manaém, companheiro de infância do tetrarca Herodes, e Saulo.	1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 Enquanto celebravam o culto do Senhor, depois de terem jejuado, disse-lhes o Espírito Santo: Separai-me Barnabé e Saulo para a obra a que os tenho destinado.	2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'
3 Então, jejuando e orando, impuseram-lhes as mãos e os despediram.	3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
4 Enviados assim pelo Espírito Santo, foram a Selêucia e dali navegaram para a ilha de Chipre.	4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.
5 Chegados a Salamina, pregavam a palavra de Deus nas sinagogas dos judeus. Tinham com eles João para auxiliá-los.	5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.
6 Percorreram toda a ilha até Pafos e acharam um judeu chamado Barjesus, mago e falso profeta,	6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.
7 que vivia na companhia do procônsul Sérgio Paulo, homem sensato. Este chamou Barnabé e Saulo, e exprimiu-lhes o desejo de ouvir a palavra de Deus.	7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,
8 Mas Élimas, o Mago - pois assim é interpretado o seu nome -, se lhes opunha, procurando desviar da fé o procônsul.	8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.
9 Então Saulo, chamado também Paulo, cheio do Espírito Santo, cravou nele os olhos e disse-lhe:	9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently
10 Filho do demônio, cheio de todo engano e de toda astúcia, inimigo de toda justiça, não cessas de perverter os caminhos retos do Senhor!	10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?
11 Eis que agora está sobre ti a mão do Senhor e ficarás cego. Não verás o sol até nova ordem! Caíram logo sobre ele a escuridão e as trevas, e, andando à roda, buscava quem lhe desse a mão.	11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.
12 À vista deste prodígio, o procônsul abraçou a fé, admirando vivamente a doutrina do Senhor.	12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.
13 Paulo e os seus companheiros navegaram de Pafos e chegaram a Perge, na Panfília, de onde João, apartando-se deles, voltou para Jerusalém.	13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.
14 Mas eles, deixando Perge, foram para Antioquia da Pisídia. Ali entraram em dia de sábado na sinagoga, e sentaram-se.	14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.
15 Depois da leitura da lei e dos profetas, mandaram-lhes dizer os chefes da sinagoga: Irmãos, se tendes alguma palavra de exortação ao povo, falai-a.	15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'
16 Paulo levantou-se, fez um sinal com a mão e falou: Homens de Israel e vós que temeis a Deus, ouvi.	16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!
17 O Deus do povo de Israel escolheu nossos pais e exaltou este povo no tempo em que habitava na terra do Egito, de onde os tirou com o poder de seu braço.	17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out
18 Por espaço de quarenta anos alimentou-os no deserto.	18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.
19 Destruiu sete nações na terra de Canaã e distribuiu-lhes por sorte aquela terra durante quase quatrocentos e cinqüenta anos.	19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land
20 Em seguida, lhes deu juízes até o profeta Samuel.	20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.
21 Pediram então um rei, e Deus lhes deu, por quarenta anos, Saul, filho de Cis, da tribo de Benjamim.	21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,
22 Depois, Deus o rejeitou e mandou-lhes Davi como rei, de quem deu este testemunho: Achei Davi, filho de Jessé, homem segundo o meu coração, que fará todas as minhas vontades.	22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."
23 De sua descendência, conforme a promessa, Deus fez sair para Israel o Salvador Jesus.	23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,
24 João tinha pregado, desde antes da sua vinda, o batismo do arrependimento a todo o povo de Israel.	24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.
25 Terminando a sua carreira, dizia: Eu não sou aquele que vós pensais, mas após mim virá aquele de quem não sou digno de desatar o calçado.	25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."
26 Irmãos, filhos de Abraão, e os que entre vós temem a Deus: a nós é que foi dirigida a mensagem de salvação.	26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.
27 Com efeito, os habitantes de Jerusalém e os seus magistrados não conheceram Jesus, e, sentenciando-o, cumpriram os oráculos dos profetas, que cada sábado são lidos.	27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f
28 Embora não achassem nele culpa alguma de morte, pediram a Pilatos que lhe tirasse a vida.	28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.
29 Depois de realizarem todas as coisas que dele estavam escritas, tirando-o do madeiro, puseram-no num sepulcro.	29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.
30 Mas Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos.	30 But God raised him from the dead,
31 Durante muitos dias apareceu àqueles que com ele subiram da Galiléia a Jerusalém, os quais até agora são testemunhas dele junto ao povo.	31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.
32 Nós vos anunciamos: a promessa feita a nossos pais,	32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.
33 Deus a tem cumprido diante de nós, seus filhos, suscitando Jesus, como também está escrito no Salmo segundo: Tu és meu Filho, eu hoje te gerei {Sl 2,7}.	33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.
34 Que Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos, para nunca mais tornar à corrupção, ele o declarou desta maneira: Eu vos darei as coisas sagradas prometidas a Davi {Is 55,3}.	34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.
35 E diz também noutra passagem: Não permitirás que teu Santo experimente a corrupção {Sl 15,10}.	35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.
36 Ora, Davi, depois de ter servido em vida aos desígnios de Deus, morreu. Foi reunido a seus pais e experimentou a corrupção.	36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.
37 Mas aquele a quem Deus ressuscitou não experimentou a corrupção.	37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.
38 Sabei, pois, irmãos, que por ele se vos anuncia a remissão dos pecados.	38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify
39 Todo aquele que crê é justificado por ele de tudo aquilo que não pôde ser pela Lei de Moisés.	39 is being offered to every believer.
40 Cuidai, pois, que não venha sobre vós o que foi dito pelos profetas:	40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.
41 Vede, ó desprezadores, pasmai e morrei de espanto. Pois eu vou realizar uma obra em vossos dias, obra a que não creríeis, se alguém vo-la contasse {Hab 1,5}.	41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'
42 Ao saírem, rogavam que lhes repetissem essas palavras no sábado seguinte.	42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.
43 Depois que a assembléia terminou, muitos judeus e prosélitos devotos seguiram Paulo e Barnabé, os quais com muitas palavras os exortavam a perseverar na graça de Deus.	43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.
44 No sábado seguinte, afluiu quase toda a cidade para ouvir a palavra de Deus.	44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.
45 Os judeus, vendo a multidão, encheram-se de inveja e puseram-se a protestar com injúrias contra o que Paulo falava.	45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.
46 Então Paulo e Barnabé disseram-lhes resolutamente: Era a vós que em primeiro lugar se devia anunciar a palavra de Deus. Mas, porque a rejeitais e vos julgais indignos da vida eterna, eis que nos voltamos para os pagãos.	46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.
47 Porque o Senhor assim no-lo mandou: Eu te estabeleci para seres luz das nações, e levares a salvação até os confins da terra {Is 49,6}.	47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'
48 Estas palavras encheram de alegria os pagãos que glorificavam a palavra do Senhor. Todos os que estavam predispostos para a vida eterna fizeram ato de fé.	48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.
49 Divulgava-se, assim, a palavra do Senhor por toda a região.	49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.
50 Mas os judeus instigaram certas mulheres religiosas da aristocracia e os principais da cidade, que excitaram uma perseguição contra Paulo e Barnabé e os expulsaram do seu território.	50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.
51 Estes sacudiram contra eles o pó dos seus pés, e foram a Icônio.	51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
52 Os discípulos, por sua vez, estavam cheios de alegria e do Espírito Santo.
