Deuteronômio 5

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Moisés convocou todo o Israel e disse-lhe: Ouve, ó Israel, as leis e os preceitos que hoje proclamo aos teus ouvidos: aprende-os e pratica-os cuidadosamente.	1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and decrees which I proclaim in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take care to observe them.
2 O Senhor, nosso Deus, fez um pacto conosco em Horeb.	2 The LORD, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb;
3 Não foi com os nossos pais que o Senhor fez essa aliança, mas conosco, que estamos hoje aqui ainda vivos.	3 not with our fathers did he make this covenant, but with us, all of us who are alive here this day.
4 Falou-nos o Senhor face a face no monte, do seio do fogo.	4 The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.
5 Durante aquele tempo, eu estava entre o Senhor e vós para transmitir-vos suas palavras, porque, aterrados pelo fogo, vós não subistes o monte. Ele disse:	5 Since you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain, I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to announce to you these words of the LORD:
6 eu sou o Senhor, teu Deus, que te tirei do Egito, da casa da servidão.	6 'I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
7 Não terás outro deus diante de mim.	7 You shall not have other gods besides me.
8 Não farás para ti imagem de escultura representando o que quer que seja do que está em cima no céu, ou embaixo na terra, ou nas águas debaixo da terra.	8 You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth;
9 Não te prostrarás diante delas para render-lhes culto, porque eu, o Senhor, teu Deus, sou um Deus zeloso, que castigo a iniqüidade dos pais nos filhos, até a terceira e a quarta geração daqueles que me odeiam,	9 you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishments for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation
10 mas uso de misericórdia até a milésima geração com aqueles que me amam e guardam os meus mandamentos.	10 but bestowing mercy, down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.
11 Não pronunciarás em vão o nome do Senhor, teu Deus; porque o Senhor não terá por inocente aquele que tiver pronunciado em vão o seu nome.	11 'You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished him who takes his name in vain.
12 Guardarás o dia do sábado e o santificarás, como te ordenou o Senhor, teu Deus.	12 'Take care to keep holy the sabbath day as the LORD, your God, commanded you.
13 Trabalharás seis dias e neles farás todas as tuas obras;	13 Six days you may labor and do all your work;
14 mas no sétimo dia, que é o repouso do Senhor, teu Deus, não farás trabalho algum, nem tu, nem teu filho, nem tua filha, nem teu servo, nem tua serva, nem teu boi, nem teu jumento, nem teus animais, nem o estrangeiro que vive dentro de teus muros, para que o teu escravo e a tua serva descansem como tu.	14 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then, whether by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or ass or any of your beasts, or the alien who lives with you. Your male and female slave should rest as you do.
15 Lembra-te de que foste escravo no Egito, de onde a mão forte e o braço poderoso do teu Senhor te tirou. É por isso que o Senhor, teu Deus, te ordenou observasses o dia do sábado.	15 For remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, brought you from there with his strong hand and outstretched arm. That is why the LORD, your God, has commanded you to observe the sabbath day.
16 Honra teu pai e tua mãe, como te mandou o Senhor, para que se prolonguem teus dias e prosperes na terra que te deu o Senhor teu Deus.	16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, that you may have a long life and prosperity in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
17 Não matarás.	17 'You shall not kill.
18 Não cometerás adultério.	18 'You shall not commit adultery.
19 Não furtarás.	19 'You shall not steal.
20 Não levantarás falso testemunho contra o teu próximo.	20 'You shall not bear dishonest witness against your neighbor.
21 Não cobiçarás a mulher de teu próximo. Não cobiçarás sua casa, nem seu campo, nem seu escravo, nem sua escrava, nem seu boi, nem seu jumento, nem nada do que lhe pertence.	21 'You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. 'You shall not desire your neighbor's house or field, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything that belongs to him.'
22 Tais são as palavras que no monte, do meio do fogo, da nuvem e das trevas, o Senhor dirigiu com voz forte a toda a vossa assembléia, sem juntar mais nada. E escreveu-as em duas tábuas de pedra, que me entregou.	22 "These words, and nothing more, the LORD spoke with a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from the midst of the fire and the dense cloud. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 Ora, depois que ouvistes a voz que saía do meio das trevas e vistes o monte ardendo em fogo, viestes ter comigo com vossos chefes de tribos e vossos anciãos para dizer-me:	23 But when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, you came to me in the person of all your tribal heads and elders,
24 eis que o Senhor, nosso Deus, nos mostrou a sua glória e a sua grandeza, e ouvimos a sua voz do seio do fogo. Hoje vimos que Deus pode falar ao homem sem que este morra.	24 and said, 'The LORD, our God, has indeed let us see his glory and his majesty! We have heard his voice from the midst of the fire and have found out today that a man can still live after God has spoken with him.
25 Por que, entretanto, nos exporemos à morte? Esse grande fogo nos devorará. Se continuarmos a ouvir a voz do Senhor, nosso Deus, morreremos.	25 But why should we die now? Surely this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD, our God, any more, we shall die.
26 Qual é o mortal que pode ouvir como nós a voz do Deus vivo, que fala do meio do fogo, e permanecer ainda vivo?	26 For what mortal has heard, as we have, the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of fire, and survived?
27 Quanto a ti, aproxima-te para ouvir o que dirá o Senhor, nosso Deus; dir-nos-ás depois tudo o que ele te disser. E nós, ouvindo-o, obedeceremos.	27 Go closer, you, and hear all that the LORD, our God, will say, and then tell us what the LORD, our God, tells you; we will listen and obey.'
28 Ouvindo vossas palavras quando me faláveis, o Senhor disse-me: ouvi as palavras que esse povo te disse: está bem tudo o que disseram.	28 "The LORD heard your words as you were speaking to me and said to me, 'I have heard the words these people have spoken to you, which are all well said.
29 Ah, se tivessem sempre esse mesmo coração, para me temer e guardar meus mandamentos! Seriam então felizes para sempre, eles e seus filhos.	29 Would that they might always be of such a mind, to fear me and to keep all my commandments! Then they and their descendants would prosper forever.
30 Vai e dize-lhes que voltem para as suas tendas.	30 Go, tell them to return to their tents.
31 Tu, porém, fica aqui comigo: vou expor-te todas as ordenações, as leis e os preceitos, que lhes ensinarás, para que as observem na terra que lhes dou em possessão.	31 Then you wait here near me and I will give you all the commandments, the statutes and decrees you must teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I am giving them to possess.'
32 Observai, pois, todas as ordens do Senhor, vosso Deus; não vos aparteis delas nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.	32 "Be careful, therefore, to do as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, not turning aside to the right or to the left,
33 Seguireis exatamente o caminho que o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos traçou, a fim de que vivais e sejais felizes, e vossos dias se prolonguem na terra que ides possuir.	33 but following exactly the way prescribed for you by the LORD, your God, that you may live and prosper, and may have long life in the land which you are to occupy.
