SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Se obedeceres fielmente à voz do Senhor, teu Deus, praticando cuidadosamente todos os seus mandamentos que hoje te prescrevo, o Senhor, teu Deus, elevar-te-á acima de todas as nações da terra.	1 "Thus, then, shall it be: if you continue to heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and are careful to observe all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, the LORD, your God, will raise you high above all the nations of the earth.
2 Estas são as bênçãos que virão sobre ti, e te tocarão, se obedeceres à voz do Senhor, teu Deus.	2 When you hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, all these blessings will come upon you and overwhelm you:
3 Serás bendito na cidade e bendito nos campos.	3 "May you be blessed in the city, and blessed in the country!
4 Será bendito o fruto de tuas entranhas, o fruto de teu solo, o fruto de teu gado, as crias de tuas vacas e de tuas ovelhas;	4 "Blessed be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil and the offspring of your livestock, the issue of your herds and the young of your flocks!
5 benditas serão a tua cesta e a tua amassadeira.	5 "Blessed be your grain bin and your kneading bowl!
6 Serás bendito quando entrares e bendito quando saíres.	6 "May you be blessed in your coming in, and blessed in your going out!
7 O Senhor expulsará diante de ti todos os inimigos que te atacarem. Se vierem por um caminho contra ti, fugirão por sete caminhos diante de ti.	7 "The LORD will beat down before you the enemies that rise up against you; though they come out against you from but one direction, they will flee before you in seven.
8 O Senhor mandará que a bênção esteja contigo, em teus celeiros e em todas as tuas obras, e te abençoará na terra que te há de dar o Senhor, teu Deus.	8 The LORD will affirm his blessing upon you, on your barns and on all your undertakings, blessing you in the land that the LORD, your God, gives you.
9 O Senhor te confirmará como um povo consagrado a ele, como te jurou, contanto que observes suas ordens e andes pelos seus caminhos.	9 Provided that you keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, and walk in his ways, he will establish you as a people sacred to himself, as he swore to you;
10 Todos os povos da terra verão, então, que és marcado com o nome do Senhor, e temer-te-ão.	10 so that, when all the nations of the earth see you bearing the name of the LORD, they will stand in awe of you.
11 O Senhor, teu Deus, cumularte-á de bens, multiplicará o fruto de tuas entranhas, o fruto de teus animais, o fruto de tua terra, na terra que jurou a teus pais dar-te.	11 The LORD will increase in more than goodly measure the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil, in the land which he swore to your fathers he would give you.
12 o Senhor abrirá para ti as suas preciosas reservas, os céus, para dar a seu tempo a chuva necessária à tua terra e para abençoar todo o trabalho de tuas mãos. Assim, emprestarás a muitas nações, e de nenhuma receberás emprestado.	12 The LORD will open up for you his rich treasure house of the heavens, to give your land rain in due season, blessing all your undertakings, so that you will lend to many nations and borrow from none.
13 O Senhor te porá à frente e não na cauda; estarás sempre no alto, jamais embaixo, contanto que obedeças às ordens do Senhor, teu Deus, que hoje te prescrevo, que as observes e as ponhas em prática,	13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail, and you will always mount higher and not decline, as long as you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I order you today to observe carefully;
14 e não te desvies nem para a direita nem para a esquerda de nenhuma das prescrições que hoje te dou, para seguires a outros deuses e dar-lhes culto.	14 not turning aside to the right or to the left from any of the commandments which I now give you, in order to follow other gods and serve them.
15 Mas se não obedeceres à voz do Senhor, teu Deus, se não praticares cuidadosamente todos os seus mandamentos e todas as suas leis que hoje te prescrevo, virão sobre ti e te alcançarão todas estas maldições:	15 "But if you do not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, and are not careful to observe all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, all these curses shall come upon you and overwhelm you:
16 serás maldito na cidade e maldito nos campos.	16 "May you be cursed in the city, and cursed in the country!
17 Serão malditas tua cesta e tua amassadeira;	17 "Cursed be your grain bin and your kneading bowl!
18 será maldito o fruto de tuas entranhas, o fruto do teu solo, as crias de tuas vacas e de tuas ovelhas.	18 "Cursed be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil and the offspring of your livestock, the issue of your herds and the young of your flocks!
19 Serás maldito quando entrares e maldito serás quando saíres.	19 "May you be cursed in your coming in, and cursed in your going out!
20 O Senhor mandará contra ti a maldição, o pânico e a ameaça em todas as tuas empresas, até que sejas destruído e aniquilado sem demora, por causa da perversidade, de tuas ações e por me teres abandonado.	20 "The LORD will put a curse on you, defeat and frustration in every enterprise you undertake, until you are speedily destroyed and perish for the evil you have done in forsaking me.
21 O Senhor mandar-te-á a peste, até que ela te tenha apagado da terra em que vais entrar para possuí-la.	21 The LORD will bring a pestilence upon you that will persist until he has exterminated you from the land you are entering to occupy.
22 O Senhor te ferirá de fraqueza, febre e inflamação, febre ardente e secura, carbúnculo e mangra, flagelos que te perseguirão até que pereças.	22 The LORD will strike you with wasting and fever, with scorching, fiery drought, with blight and searing wind, that will plague you until you perish.
23 o céu que está por cima da tua cabeça será de bronze, e o solo será de ferro sob os teus pés.	23 The sky over your heads will be like bronze and the earth under your feet like iron.
24 Em lugar da chuva ,necessária à tua terra, o Senhor dar-te-á pó e areia, que cairão do céu sobre ti até que pereças.	24 For rain the LORD will give your land powdery dust, which will come down upon you from the sky until you are destroyed.
25 O Senhor por-te-á em fuga diante dos teus inimigos. Se marchares contra eles por um caminho, por sete caminhos fugiras deles, e serás objeto de horror para todos os reinos da terra.	25 The LORD will let you be beaten down before your enemies; though you advance against them from one direction, you will flee before them in seven, so that you will become a terrifying example to all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 Teu cadáver servirá de pasto a todas as aves do céu e a todos os animais da terra, sem que ninguém os expulse.	26 Your carcasses will become food for all the birds of the air and for the beasts of the field, with no one to frighten them off.
27 O Senhor te ferirá da úlcera do Egito, de hemorróidas, de sarna e de dartros incuráveis.	27 The LORD will strike you with Egyptian boils and with tumors, eczema and the itch, until you cannot be cured.
28 o Senhor te ferirá de loucura, de cegueira e de embotamento de espírito.	28 And the LORD will strike you with madness, blindness and panic,
29 Andarás às apalpadelas em pleno meio-dia como o cego na escuridão; fracassarás em tuas empresas e, não cessarás de ser oprimido e despojado, sem ninguém que te defenda.	29 so that even at midday you will grope like a blind man in the dark, unable to find your way. "You will be oppressed and robbed continually, with no one to come to your aid.
30 Receberás uma mulher, mas outro a possuirá; construirás uma casa, mas não a habitarás; plantarás uma vinha e não comerás os seus frutos.	30 Though you betroth a wife, another man will have her. Though you build a house, you will not live in it. Though you plant a vineyard, you will not enjoy its fruits.
31 O teu boi será imolado sob os teus olhos, mas tu não comerás dele; teu jumento será arrebatado em tua presença, e não te será jamais restituído; tuas ovelhas serão dadas aos teus inimigos, sem que ninguém te venha em socorro.	31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, and you will not eat of its flesh. Your ass will be stolen in your presence, but you will not recover it. Your flocks will be given to your enemies, with no one to come to your aid.
32 Teus filhos e tuas filhas serão dados a um povo estrangeiro; os teus olhos o verão e se consumirão de dor, esperando-os, mas a tua mão ficará impotente.	32 Your sons and daughters will be given to a foreign nation while you look on and grieve for them in constant helplessness.
33 Os frutos de tua terra e de teu trabalho serão comidos por um povo que não conheces, e serás sem cessar oprimido e esmagado;	33 A people whom you do not know will consume the fruit of your soil and of all your labor, and you will be oppressed and crushed at all times without surcease,
34 enlouquecer-te-ás à vista de tudo o que teus olhos terão de ver.	34 until you are driven mad by what your eyes must look upon.
35 O Senhor te ferirá nos joelhos e nas coxas com uma úlcera maligna e incurável, e que se estenderá da planta dos pés ao alto da cabeça.	35 The LORD will strike you with malignant boils of which you cannot be cured, on your knees and legs, and from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head.
36 O Senhor te levará a ti e ao teu rei que tiveres sobre ti, ao meio de um povo que nem tu nem teus pais conheceram. Ali renderás culto a outros deuses, deuses de pau e de pedra.	36 "The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you have set over you, to a nation which you and your fathers have not known, and there you will serve strange gods of wood and stone,
37 Serás objeto de pasmo, de ludíbrio e de mofa para todos os povos no meio dos quais te conduzir o Senhor.	37 and will call forth amazement, reproach and barbed scorn from all the nations to which the LORD will lead you.
38 Lançarás sementes em abundância nos teus campos, mas colherás pouco, porque o gafanhoto devastará tudo.	38 "Though you spend much seed on your field, you will harvest but little, for the locusts will devour the crop.
39 Plantaras a vinha, e dela cuidarás, mas não beberás vinho, nem nada colherás, porque o verme devorará tudo.	39 Though you plant and cultivate vineyards, you will not drink or store up the wine, for the grubs will eat the vines clean.
40 Terás oliveiras em tuas terras, mas não terás óleo, porque as olivas cairão.	40 Though you have olive trees throughout your country, you will have no oil for ointment, for your olives will drop off unripe.
41 Gerarás filhos e filhas, mas não serão teus, porque irão para o cativeiro.	41 Though you beget sons and daughters, they will not remain with you, but will go into captivity.
42 O besouro consumirá todas as árvores e todos os frutos de teu solo.	42 Buzzing insects will infest all your trees and the crops of your soil.
43 O estrangeiro que vive no meio de ti elevar-se-á cada vez mais, ao passo que tu descerás na mesma medida;	43 The alien residing among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.
44 ele te emprestará, mas não tu a ele; ele estará na frente, e tu na cauda.	44 He will lend to you, not you to him. He will become the head, you the tail.
45 Todas estas maldições cairão sobre ti, te perseguirão e te alcançarão até que sejas exterminado, porque não ouviste a voz do Senhor, teu Deus, e não guardaste os mandamentos e as leis que ele te impôs.	45 "All these curses will come upon you, pursuing you and overwhelming you, until you are destroyed, because you would not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God, nor keep the commandments and statutes he gave you.
46 Serão para ti e para a tua raça como um sinal e prodígio para sempre.	46 They will light on you and your descendants as a sign and a wonder for all time.
47 Visto que não serviste ao Senhor com alegria e bom coração, na abundância em que viveste,	47 Since you would not serve the LORD, your God, with joy and gratitude for abundance of every kind,
48 servirás na fome, na sede, na nudez e na mais extrema miséria os inimigos quê o Senhor enviar contra ti; será posto no teu pescoço um jugo de ferro até que sejas aniquilado.	48 therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and utter poverty, you will serve the enemies whom the LORD will send against you. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he destroys you.
49 O Senhor suscitará contra ti das extremidades da terra uma nação longínqua, rápida como a águia, de uma língua bárbara,	49 "The LORD will raise up against you a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, that swoops down like an eagle, a nation whose tongue you do not understand,
50 e um rosto feroz, que não terá respeito pelo velho nem piedade com o menino.	50 a nation of stern visage, that shows neither respect for the aged nor pity for the young.
51 Ela devorará o fruto de teus rebanhos e os produtos de teu solo, até que sejas aniquilado, e nada te deixará, nem trigo, nem vinho, nem óleo , nem a cria de tuas vacas, nem os filhotes de tuas ovelhas, até a tua ruína.	51 They will consume the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your soil, until you are destroyed; they will leave you no grain or wine or oil, no issue of your herds or young of your flocks, until they have brought about your ruin.
52 Ela te sitiará em todas as tuas cidades, até que desabem os teus mais altos e mais fortes muros, em que punhas a tua confiança, em toda a terra que te tiver dado o Senhor, teu Deus.	52 They will besiege you in each of your communities, until the great, unscalable walls you trust in come tumbling down all over your land. They will so besiege you in every community throughout the land which the LORD, your God, has given you,
53 Comerás o fruto de tuas entranhas, a carne de teus filhos e de tuas filhas, que o Senhor, teu Deus, te tiver dado, tão grandes serão a angústia e a miséria a que te reduzirá o teu inimigo.	53 that in the distress of the siege to which your enemy subjects you, you will eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your own sons and daughters whom the LORD, your God, has given you.
54 O homem mais delicado de Israel, o mais mimoso, olhará com maus olhos o seu irmão, a mulher que repousa no seu seio e o que lhe resta ainda de filhos,	54 The most refined and fastidious man among you will begrudge his brother and his beloved wife and his surviving children,
55 não querendo repartir com nenhum deles a carne de seus filhos, da qual se alimentará ele mesmo, porque nada mais lhe restará no meio da miséria e da angústia a que te reduzirá o teu inimigo em todas as tuas cidades.	55 any share in the flesh of his children that he himself is using for food when nothing else is left him in the straits of the siege to which your enemy will subject you in all your communities.
56 A mulher mais delicada dentre vós, a mais mimosa, que nem sequer tentava pousar na terra a planta dos pés, por causa de sua excessiva brandura e delicadeza, olhará com maus olhos o marido que repousava no seu seio, seu filho e sua filha,	56 The most refined and delicate woman among you, so delicate and refined that she would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground, will begrudge her beloved husband and her son and daughter
57 {não querendo repartir com eles} as secundinas saídas de seu ventre e o filho que ela porá no mundo; porque em sua penúria de todas as coisas, ela os te à comido ocultamente, no meio da miséria e da angústia a que te reduzirá o teu inimigo em todas as tuas cidades.	57 the afterbirth that issues from her womb and the infant she brings forth when she secretly uses them for food for want of anything else, in the straits of the siege to which your enemy will subject you in your communities.
58 Se não cuidares de observar todas as palavras desta lei, consignada neste livro, em sinal de reverência pelo nome glorioso e temível de Javé, teu Deus,	58 "If you are not careful to observe every word of the law which is written in this book, and to revere the glorious and awesome name of the LORD, your God,
59 o Senhor te ferirá, bem como a tua posteridade, com pragas extraordinárias, pragas grandes e permanentes, doenças perniciosas e pertinazes.	59 he will smite you and your descendants with severe and constant blows, malignant and lasting maladies.
60 Fará voltar contra ti todas as enfermidades do Egito que temias, e elas pegarão em ti.	60 He will again afflict you with all the diseases of Egypt which you dread, and they will persist among you.
61 Além disso, o Senhor enviará contra ti, até que sejas exterminado, toda sorte de enfermidades e pragas, que não estão escritas no livro desta lei.	61 Should there be any kind of sickness or calamity not mentioned in this book of the law, that too the LORD will bring upon you until you are destroyed.
62 Vós, que éreis numerosos como as estrelas do céu, sereis reduzidos a um punhado de homens, porque tu não obedeceste à voz do Senhor, teu Deus.	62 Of you who were numerous as the stars in the sky, only a few will be left, because you would not hearken to the voice of the LORD, your God.
63 E ,assim como o Senhor se comprazia em vos fazer bem e em vos multiplicar, assim se comprazerá em vos fazer perecer e em vos exterminar. Sereis arrancados da terra em que entrardes para possuí-la.	63 "Just as the LORD once took delight in making you grow and prosper, so will he now take delight in ruining and destroying you, and you will be plucked out of the land you are now entering to occupy.
64 O Senhor te dispersará entre todas as nações, de uma extremidade a outra da terra, e lá renderás culto a outros deuses, deuses de pau e de pedra, que nem tu nem teus pais conheceram.	64 The LORD will scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will serve strange gods of wood and stone, such as you and your fathers have not known.
65 Não haverá segurança para ti no meio desses povos, nem repouso para a planta de teus pés. O Senhor te dará ali um coração agitado, olhos lânguidos e uma alma desfalecida.	65 Among these nations you will find no repose, not a foot of ground to stand upon, for there the LORD will give you an anguished heart and wasted eyes and a dismayed spirit.
66 A tua vida estará como em suspenso diante de ti. Terás pavores de noite e de dia, sem nenhuma certeza de viver.	66 You will live in constant suspense and stand in dread both day and night, never sure of your existence.
67 Pela manhã dirás: oxalá que fosse a tarde! E à tarde dirás: oxalá que fosse a manhã! Isso, por causa do terror que possuirá o teu coração, e do espetáculo que terão de ver os teus olhos.	67 In the morning you will say, 'Would that it were evening!' and in the evening you will say, 'Would that it were morning!' for the dread that your heart must feel and the sight that your eyes must see.
68 O Senhor te reconduzirá em navios ao Egito, pelo caminho do qual eu te havia dito que não o veríeis mais. E ali, quando vós vos venderdes aos vossos inimigos como escravas e como escravas, não haverá ninguém que vos compre.	68 The LORD will send you back in galleys to Egypt, to the region I told you that you were never to see again; and there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer."
	69 These are the words of the covenant which the LORD ordered Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them at Horeb.
