1 Partindo dali, fomos para o deserto na direção do mar Vermelho, segundo a ordem do Senhor, e andamos muito tempo em torno do monte Seir.	1 "When we did turn and proceed into the desert on the Red Sea road, as the LORD had commanded me, we circled around the highlands of Seir for a long time.
2 O Senhor então me disse:	2 Finally the LORD said to me,
3 basta de girar em volta deste monte; dirigi-vos para o norte.	3 'You have wandered round these highlands long enough; turn and go north.
4 Ordena ao povo: atravessareis o território de vossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir. Eles têm medo de vós;	4 Give this order to the people: You are now about to pass through the territory of your kinsmen, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. Though they are afraid of you, be very careful
5 mas guardai-vos de entrar em luta contra eles, porque não vos darei nada de sua terra, nem mesmo a medida de um pé; é a Esaú que dei a propriedade das montanhas de Seir.	5 not to come in conflict with them, for I will not give you so much as a foot of their land, since I have already given Esau possession of the highlands of Seir.
6 Comprar-lhes-eis a preço de dinheiro o necessário para alimentar-vos, e pagareis mesmo a água que beberdes,	6 You shall purchase from them with silver the food you eat and the well water you drink.
7 porque o Senhor teu Deu s te abençoou em todas as tuas empresas, e velou sobre ti durante a tua marcha através desse vasto deserto. Eis já quarenta anos que o Senhor teu Deus está contigo, e nada te faltou.	7 The LORD, your God, has blessed you in all your undertakings; he has been concerned about your journey through this vast desert. It is now forty years that he has been with you, and you have never been in want.'
8 Passamos, pois, ao longe de nossos irmãos, os filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir, evitando o caminho da planície, assim como Elat e Asiongaber. Voltamos e tomamos o caminho na direção do deserto de Moab.	8 "Then we left behind us the Arabah route, Elath, Ezion-geber, and Seir, where our kinsmen, the descendants of Esau, live; and we went on toward the desert of Moab.
9 Então o Senhor me disse: não ataques os moabitas e não entres em guerra contra eles, porque não te darei nada de sua terra; foi aos filhos de Lot que dei Ar como herança.	9 And the LORD said to me, 'Do not show hostility to the Moabites or engage them in battle, for I will not give you possession of any of their land, since I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their own.
10 { Outrora habitavam os e mim nessa terra. Era uni povo grande, numeroso e de alta estatura, como os enacim.	10 (Formerly the Emim lived there, a people strong and numerous and tall like the Anakim;
11 Também eles eram considerados refaim, corno os enacim; irias os moabitas chamavam-nos emim.	11 like them they were considered Rephaim. It was the Moabites who called them Emim.
12 Em Seir habitavam também os horreus, os quais foram expulsos pelos filhos de Esaú. Estes, após os haverem exterminado, estabeleceram-se em seu lugar, como o fez Israel na terra que o Senhor lhe deu em possessão.}	12 In Seir, however, the former inhabitants were the Horites; the descendants of Esau dispossessed them, clearing them out of the way and taking their place, just as the Israelites have done in the land of their heritage which the LORD has given them.)
13 Vamos, pois! Passai a torrente de Zered. Passamos então a torrente de Zered.	13 Get ready, then, to cross the Wadi Zered.' So we crossed it.
14 Durou trinta e oito anos essa nossa viagem de Cades-Barne até a passagem da torrente de Zered. Entretanto, extinguiu-se do acampamento toda a geração dos homens de guerra, assim como o Senhor o tinha jurado.	14 Thirty-eight years had elapsed between our departure from Kadesh-barnea and that crossing; in the meantime the whole generation of soldiers had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn they should.
15 A mão do Senhor pesou sobre eles, e foram cortados do acampamento até a sua completa extinção.	15 For it was the LORD'S hand that was against them, till he wiped them out of the camp completely.
16 Depois que todos esses homens de guerra desapareceram do meio de seu povo, levados pela morte,	16 "When at length death had put an end to all the soldiers among the people,
17 o Senhor disse-me:	17 the LORD said to me,
18 passarás hoje a fronteira de Moab, Ar,	18 'You are now about to leave Ar and the territory of Moab behind.
19 e encontrar-te-ás em face dos amonitas. Não os ataques, nem lhes faças guerra, porque não te darei nada da sua terra; foi aos filhos de Lot que dei a possessão dessa terra.	19 As you come opposite the Ammonites, do not show hostility or come in conflict with them, for I will not give you possession of any land of the Ammonites, since I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their own.
20 {Também esta foi reputada terra dos refaim, chamados pelos amonitas de zanzomim,	20 (This also was considered a country of the Rephaim from its former inhabitants, whom the Ammonites called Zamzummim,
21 povo grande, numeroso e de alta estatura como os enacim. Mas o Senhor exterminou-os diante dos amonitas, que os despojaram e habitaram em lugar deles.	21 a people strong and numerous and tall like the Anakim. But these, too, the LORD cleared out of the way for the Ammonites, who ousted them and took their place.
22 Foi o que o Senhor tinha feito pelos filhos de Esaú, que habitam em Seir, destruindo os horreus diante deles. Despojaram-nos e estabeleceram-se em seu lugar, onde estão ainda hoje.	22 He had done the same for the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, by clearing the Horites out of their way, so that the descendants of Esau have taken their place down to the present.
23 Da mesma sorte os heveus, que habitavam nas aldeias até Gaza, foram esmagados pelos caftorim, originários de Caftor, que se estabeleceram em seu lugar.}	23 So also the Caphtorim, migrating from Caphtor, cleared away the Avvim, who once dwelt in villages as far as Gaza, and took their place.)
24 Vamos! Desarmai as tendas e passai a torrente do Arnon. Vê: entrego-te nas mãos Seon, rei de Hesebon, o amorreu, com a sua terra. Começa a despojá-lo e faze-lhe guerra.	24 "'Advance now across the Wadi Arnon. I now deliver into your hands Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin the occupation; engage him in battle.
25 A partir de hoje começarei a derramar o temor e o terror de teu nome entre os povos que habitam debaixo de todos os céus, de sorte que só ao ouvir o teu nome eles tremerão e estarão em pânico por causa de ti.	25 This day I will begin to put a fear and dread of you into every nation under the heavens, so that at the mention of your name they will quake and tremble before you.'
26 Então enviei do deserto de Cademot mensageiros a Seon, rei de Hesebon, com palavras de paz, dizendo:	26 "So I sent messengers from the desert of Kedemoth to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with this offer of peace:
27 Deixa-me atravessar a tua terra; seguirei pela estrada comum, e não me desviarei nem para a direita nem para a esquerda.	27 'Let me pass through your country by the highway; I will go along it without turning aside to the right or to the left.
28 Vender-me-ás por dinheiro o necessário para alimentar-me, e pagar-te-ei mesmo a água que eu beber. Deixa-me somente passar,	28 For the food I eat which you will supply, and for the water you give me to drink, you shall be paid in silver. Only let me march through,
29 - como fizeram os filhos de Esaú que habitam em Seir, e os moabitas que habitam em Ar -, até que eu chegue ao Jordão e entre na terra que o Senhor nosso Deus nos dá.	29 as the descendants of Esau who dwell in Seir and the Moabites who dwell in Ar have done, until I cross the Jordan into the land which the LORD, our God, is about to give us.'
30 Mas Seon, rei de Hesebon, não consentiu que passássemos por sua terra; o Senhor, teu Deus, obcecara-lhe o espírito e endurecera-lhe o coração, a fim de entregá-lo em tuas mãos, como de fato aconteceu.	30 But Sihon, king of Heshbon, refused to let us pass through his land, because the LORD, your God, made him stubborn in mind and obstinate in heart that he might deliver him up to you, as indeed he has now done.
31 O Senhor disse-me então: vê: estou pronto a entregar-te imediatamente Seon com a sua terra. Empreende a conquista e ocupa-lhe o território.	31 "Then the LORD said to me, 'Now that I have already begun to hand over to you Sihon and his land, begin the actual occupation.'
32 Seon saiu com todo o seu povo ao nosso encontro para pelejar contra nós em Jasa.	32 So Sihon and all his people advanced against us to join battle at Jahaz;
33 Mas o Senhor, nosso Deus, no-lo entregou e nós derrotamo-lo com os seus filhos e todo o seu povo.	33 but since the LORD, our God, had delivered him to us, we defeated him and his sons and all his people.
34 Tomamos-lhe então todas as suas cidades, que votamos ao interdito, com os homens, as mulheres e as crianças, sem deixar escapar ninguém.	34 At that time we seized all his cities and doomed them all, with their men, women and children; we left no survivor.
35 Só nos reservamos os animais e o espólio das cidades conquistadas.	35 Our only booty was the livestock and the loot of the captured cities.
36 Desde Aroer, que está à margem da torrente do Arnon, e a cidade situada no vale, até Galaad, não houve lugar tão forte que nos pudesse resistir; o Senhor, nosso Deus, tudo nos entregou.	36 From Aroer on the edge of the Wadi Arnon and from the city in the wadi itself, as far as Gilead, no city was too well fortified for us to whom the LORD had delivered them up.
37 Somente não vos aproximastes da terra dos amonitas, nem de lugar algum situado às margens da torrente do Jaboc, nem das cidades da montanha, nem de nenhum dos lugares proibidos pelo Senhor, nosso Deus.	37 However, in obedience to the command of the LORD, our God, you did not encroach upon any of the Ammonite land, neither the region bordering on the Wadi Jabbok, nor the cities of the highlands.
