SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Aproximaram-se então as filhas de Salafaad, filho de Hefer, filho de Galaad, filho de Maquir, filho de Manassés, filho de José. Seus nomes eram Maala, Noa, Hegla, Melca e Tersa.	1 There then came forward the daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir,son of Manasseh; he belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. His daughters' names were Mahlah,Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
2 Elas apresentaram-se diante de Moisés e do sacerdote Eleazar, e diante dos principais e de toda a assembléia, à entrada da tenda de reunião:	2 They appeared before Moses, the priest Eleazar, the leaders and the whole community, at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting, and said,
3 "Nosso pai, disseram elas, morreu no deserto, e não tomou parte na sedição excitada por Coré contra o Senhor; mas morreu por causa de seu próprio pecado. Ora, ele não teve filhos.	3 'Our father died in the desert. He was not a member of the party who banded together againstYahweh, Korah's party; it was for his own sin that he died without sons.
4 Por que razão há de desaparecer o nome de sua família, por não ter tido filho algum? Dá-nos uma propriedade entre os irmãos de nosso pai."	4 Why should our father's name be lost to his clan? Since he had no son, give us some property likeour father's kinsmen.'
5 Moisés levou a sua causa diante do Senhor,	5 Moses took their case before Yahweh,
6 que lhe disse:	6 and Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
7 "As filhas de Salafaad têm razão. Dar-lhes-ás uma propriedade como herança entre os irmãos de seu pai, para que elas lhe sucedam na herança.	7 'Zelophehad's daughters are right in what they say. You will indeed give them a property to be theirheritage among their father's kinsmen; see that their father's heritage is passed on to them.
8 Dirás aos israelitas: se um homem morrer sem deixar filhos, a herança passara à sua filha;	8 Then speak to the Israelites and say, "If a man dies without sons, his heritage wil pass to hisdaughter.
9 se não tiver filhas, será dada aos seus irmãos.	9 If he has no daughter, the heritage will go to his brothers.
10 Se não tiver irmãos, a herança passará aos irmãos de seu pai,	10 If he has no brothers, his heritage wil go to his father's brothers.
11 e se seu pai não tiver irmãos, será dada ao seu parente mais próximo em sua família, e este último tornar-se-á seu possessor. Esta será para os filhos de Israel uma prescrição de direito, assim como o Senhor ordenou a Moisés."	11 If his father has no brothers, his heritage wil go to the member of his clan who is most nearlyrelated; it wil become his property. This will be a legal rule for the Israelites, as Yahweh has ordered Moses." '
12 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Sobe a esse monte Abarim, e contempla a terra que eu hei de dar aos israelitas.	12 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim range, and look at the country which Ihave given to the Israelites.
13 Depois de a teres visto, serás reunido aos teus, como o teu irmão Aarão,	13 After you have seen it, you will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was.
14 porque, no deserto de Sin, na contenda da assembléia, fostes rebeldes à minha ordem, não manifestando a minha santidade diante deles na questão das águas." {Trata-se das águas de Meribá, em Cades, no deserto de Sin.}	14 For you both rebel ed in the desert of Zin when the community disputed with me and when I orderedyou to assert my holiness before their eyes by means of the water.' (These were the Waters of Meribah ofKadesh, in the desert of Zin.)
15 Moisés disse ao Senhor:	15 Moses then said to Yahweh,
16 "O Senhor Deus dos espíritos e de toda a carne escolha um homem que chefie a assembléia,	16 'May it please Yahweh, God of the spirits that give life to al living creatures, to appoint a leader forthis community,
17 que marche à sua frente e guie os seus passos, para que a assembléia do Senhor não seja como um rebanho sem pastor."	17 to be at their head in all their undertakings, a man who wil lead them out and bring them in, so thatYahweh's community wil not be like sheep without a shepherd.'
18 O Senhor respondeu a Moisés: "Toma Josué, filho de Nun, no qual reside o Espírito, e impõe-lhe a mão.	18 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom the spirit dwel s, and lay yourhand on him.
19 Apresentá-lo-ás ao sacerdote Eleazar e a toda a assembléia, e o empossarás sob os seus olhos.	19 Bring him before the priest Eleazar and the whole community and give him your orders in theirpresence,
20 Tu o investirás de tua autoridade, a fim de que toda a assembléia dos israelitas lhe obedeça.	20 conferring some of your own authority on him, so that the whole community of Israelites wil obeyhim.
21 Ele se apresentará ao sacerdote Eleazar, que consultará por ele o oráculo de Urim diante do Senhor; é segundo essa ordem que se conduzirão, ele e toda a assembléia dos israelitas."	21 He wil present himself to the priest Eleazar who wil consult Yahweh on his behalf by means of therite of the urim; at his command, they wil go out and, at his command, they will come in, he and all the Israeliteswith him, the whole community.'
22 Moisés fez como o Senhor tinha ordenado. Tomou Josué e apresentou-o ao sacerdote Eleazar, bem como a toda a assembléia.	22 Moses did as Yahweh had ordered. He took Joshua, brought him before the priest Eleazar and thewhole community,
23 Impôs-lhe as mãos e empossou-o assim como o Senhor tinha ordenado pela boca de Moisés.	23 laid his hands on him and gave him his orders, as Yahweh had directed through Moses.
