Joel 1

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Oráculo do Senhor dirigido a Joel, filho de Fatuel.	1 The word of Yahweh that was addressed to Joel son of Pethuel.
2 Ouvi isto, anciãos, estai atentos, vós todos habitantes da terra! Aconteceu uma coisa semelhante em vossos dias, ou nos dias de vossos pais?	2 Listen to this, you elders; everybody in the country, attend! Has anything like this ever happened in yourday, or in your ancestors' days?
3 Narrai-o a vossos filhos, vossos filhos a seus filhos, e estes à geração seguinte!	3 Tell your children about it and let your children tel their children, and their children the next generation!
4 O que a lagarta deixou, o gafanhoto devorou; o que deixou o gafanhoto, o roedor devorou; e o que ficou do roedor, o devastador comeu.	4 What the nibbler has left, the grown locust has eaten, what the grown locust has left, the hopper haseaten, and what the hopper has left, the shearer has eaten.
5 Despertai, ó ébrios, e chorai; bebedores de vinho, lamentai-vos, porque o suco da vinha foi tirado da vossa boca!	5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! All you wine-bibbers, lament for the new wine: it has beensnatched from your lips.
6 Minha terra foi invadida por um povo forte e inumerável; seus dentes são dentes de leão, e tem mandíbulas de leoa.	6 For a nation has invaded my country, mighty and innumerable, with teeth like a lion's teeth, with thefangs of a lioness.
7 Devastou o meu vinhedo, destruiu minha figueira, descascou-a completamente, lançou-a por terra e seus ramos tornaram-se brancos.	7 It has reduced my vines to a desolation and my fig trees to splinters, stripped them and broken themdown, leaving their branches white.
8 Clama como uma virgem cingida de saco para chorar o prometido de sua juventude.	8 Mourn, as a virgin-bride in sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth!
9 Já não há oferta nem libação no templo do Senhor. Os sacerdotes, servos do Senhor, estão de luto.	9 Cereal offering and libation are lost to Yahweh's Temple. The priests, the ministers of Yahweh, are inmourning.
10 Os campos estão devastados, o solo enlutado. O trigo foi destruído, o mosto perdido, o óleo estragado.	10 The fields are ruined, the land is in mourning, for the grain has been ruined, the new wine has failed, ofolive oil only a trickle.
11 Os lavradores estão desamparados, os vinhateiros lamentam-se por causa do trigo e da cevada, porque a colheita foi destruída.	11 Stand dismayed, you farmers, wail, you vinedressers, for the wheat, for the barley! The harvest of thefields has been lost!
12 A vinha secou, a figueira murchou; a romãzeira, a palmeira, a macieira, todas as árvores definham; a alegria, envergonhada, foi para longe dos homens.	12 The vine has withered, the fig tree wilts away; pomegranate, palm tree, apple tree, every tree in thecountryside is dry, and for human beings joy has run dry too.
13 Revesti-vos de sacos, sacerdotes, e batei no peito! Lamentai-vos, ministros do altar! Vinde, passai a noite vestidos de saco, servos de meu Deus!	13 Priests, put on sackcloth and lament! You ministers of the altar, wail! Come here, lie in sackcloth alnight long, you ministers of my God! For the Temple of your God has been deprived of cereal offering andlibation.
14 Publicai o jejum, convocai a assembléia, reuni os anciãos e toda a população no templo do Senhor, vosso Deus,	14 Order a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; you elders, summon everybody in the country to theTemple of Yahweh your God. Cry out to Yahweh:
15 e clamai ao Senhor: Ai, que dia! O dia do Senhor, com efeito, está próximo, e vem como um furacão desencadeado pelo Todo-poderoso.	15 'Alas for the day! For the Day of Yahweh is near, coming as destruction from Shaddai.'
16 Acaso não foi sob os nossos olhos que desapareceu todo o mantimento e se desvaneceram do templo de nosso Deus a alegria e o regozijo?	16 Has not the food disappeared before our very eyes? Have not joy and gladness vanished from theTemple of our God?
17 As sementes secaram sob os torrões, os celeiros estão vazios, os armazéns, arruinados, porque falta o trigo.	17 The seeds shrivel under their clods; the granaries are deserted, the barns are in ruins, because theharvest has dried out.
18 Como geme o rebanho, e como anda errante o gado por falta de pastagens! Até mesmo os rebanhos de ovelhas padecem.	18 Loudly the cattle groan! The herds of oxen are bewildered because they have no pasture. The flocks ofsheep bear the punishment too.
19 Clamo a vós, Senhor, porque o fogo devorou a erva do deserto, a chama queimou todas as árvores do campo;	19 Yahweh, to you I cry: for fire has devoured the desert pastures, flame has burnt up all the trees in thecountryside.
20 os próprios animais selvagens suspiram por vós, porque as correntes das águas secaram, e o fogo devorou a erva do deserto.	20 Even the wild animals pant loudly for you, for the watercourses have run dry, and fire has devoured thedesert pastures.
