Daniel 8

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 No terceiro ano do reinado de Baltazar, eu, Daniel, tive uma visão, continuação daquela que eu tinha tido anteriormente.	1 In the third year of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had original yappeared to me.
2 Nessa visão, eu me achava na fortaleza de Susa, na província de Elão, e eu me vi, sempre em visão, às margens do Ulai.	2 I gazed at the vision, and as I gazed I found myself in Susa, the citadel in the province of Elam; gazingat the vision, I found myself at the Ulai Gate.
3 Erguendo os olhos, eis que vi um carneiro, o qual se achava em frente ao rio. Tinha dois chifres, dois longos chifres, um dos quais era mais alto do que o outro. Esse chifre mais alto apareceu por último.	3 I raised my eyes to look, and I saw a ram standing in front of the gate. It had two horns; both were tal ,but one tal er than the other, and the one that rose the higher was the second.
4 Vi o carneiro dar chifradas em direção do oeste, do norte e do sul. Nenhum animal resistia diante dele, e ninguém conseguia escapar de seu poder. Fazia o que queria, e crescia.	4 I saw the ram butting westwards, northwards and southwards. No animal could stand up to it, nothingcould escape its power. It did as it pleased and became strong.
5 Enquanto observava com atenção, eis que um bode robusto veio do ocidente e percorreu a terra inteira sem tocar o solo; tinha entre os dois olhos um chifre muito saliente.	5 This is what I observed: a he-goat from the west, encroaching over the entire surface of the worldthough never touching the ground, and between its eyes the goat had one majestic horn.
6 Foi até o carneiro de dois chifres, que eu tinha visto em frente ao rio, e avançou contra ele num excesso de fúria.	6 It advanced on the two-horned ram, which I had seen standing in front of the gate, and charged at it inthe full force of its fury.
7 Eu o vi aproximar-se do carneiro e atirando-se com fúria sobre ele, espancá-lo e quebrar-lhe os dois chifres, sem que o carneiro tivesse força para sustentar o assalto. O bode jogou por terra o carneiro e o calcou aos pés, sem que alguém interviesse para subtraí-lo ao ataque de seu adversário.	7 I saw it reach the ram; it was enraged with the ram and struck it, breaking both its horns, so that theram was not strong enough to hold its ground; it threw it to the ground and trampled it underfoot; no one wasthere to rescue the ram.
8 Então o bode tornou-se muito grande. Mas, assim que se tornou poderoso, seu grande chifre quebrou-se e foi substituído por quatro chifres que cresciam em direção dos quatro ventos do céu.	8 The he-goat then grew more powerful than ever; but at the height of its strength the great hornsnapped, and in its place sprouted four majestic horns, pointing to the four winds of heaven.
9 De um deles saiu um pequeno chifre que se desenvolveu consideravelmente para o sul, para o oriente e para a jóia {dos países}.	9 From one of these, the smal one, sprang a horn which grew to great size towards south and east andtowards the Land of Splendour.
10 Cresceu até alcançar os astros do céu, do qual fez cair por terra diversas estrelas e as calcou aos pés.	10 It grew right up to the armies of heaven and flung armies and stars to the ground, and trampled themunderfoot.
11 Cresceu até o chefe desse exército de astros, cujo {holocausto} perpétuo aboliu e cujo santuário destruiu.	11 It even challenged the power of the Prince of the army; it abolished the perpetual sacrifice andoverthrew the foundation of his sanctuary,
12 Por causa da infidelidade, além do holocausto perpétuo foi-lhe entregue um exército! A verdade foi lançada à terra. O pequeno chifre teve êxito na sua empreitada.	12 and the army too; over the sacrifice it installed iniquity and flung truth to the ground; the horn wasactive and successful.
13 Ouvi um santo que falava, a quem outro santo respondeu: quanto tempo durará o anunciado pela visão a respeito do holocausto perpétuo, da infidelidade destruidora, e do abandono do santuário e do exército calcado aos pés?	13 I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one say to the speaker, 'How long is this vision to be --of perpetual sacrifice, of horrifying iniquity, of sanctuary and army trampled underfoot?'
14 Respondeu: duas mil e trezentas noites e manhãs. Depois disso o santuário será restabelecido.	14 The first replied, 'Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings have gone by: then thesanctuary wil have its rights restored.'
15 Ora, enquanto eu contemplava essa visão e procurava o significado, vi, de pé diante de mim, um ser em forma humana,	15 As I, Daniel, gazed at the vision and tried to understand it, I saw someone standing in front of me wholooked like a man.
16 e ouvi uma voz humana vinda do meio do Ulai: Gabriel, gritava, explica-lhe a visão.	16 I heard a human voice cry over the Ulai, 'Gabriel, tell him the meaning of the vision!'
17 Dirigiu-se então em direção ao lugar onde eu me achava. À sua aproximação, fiquei apavorado e caí com a face contra a terra. Filho do homem, disse-me ele, compreende bem que essa visão simboliza o tempo final.	17 He approached the place where I was standing; as he approached, I was seized with terror and fellprostrate on the ground. 'Son of man,' he said to me, 'understand this: the vision shows the time of the End.'
18 Enquanto falava comigo, desmaiei, com o rosto em terra. Mas ele tocou-me e me fez ficar de pé.	18 He was stil speaking, when I fainted, face downwards on the ground. He touched me, however, andraised me to my feet.
19 Eis, disse, vou revelar-te o que acontecerá nos últimos tempos da cólera, porque isso diz respeito ao tempo final.	19 'Come,' he said, 'I shall tel you what is going to happen when the Retribution is over, about the finaltimes.
20 O carneiro de dois chifres, que viste, simboliza os reis da Média e da Pérsia.	20 As for the ram which you saw, its two horns are the kings of Media and of Persia.
21 O bode valente é o rei de Javã; o grande chifre que ele tem entre os olhos é o primeiro rei.	21 The hairy he-goat is the king of Greece, the large horn between its eyes is the first king.
22 Sua ruptura e o nascimento de quatro chifres em seu lugar significam quatro reinos saindo dessa nação, mas sem terem o mesmo poder.	22 The horn which snapped and the four horns which sprouted in its place are four kingdoms rising fromhis nation but not having his strength.
23 No fim do reinado deles, quando estiver cheia a medida dos infiéis, um rei surgirá, cheio de crueldade e fingimento.	23 'And at the end of their reign, when the measure of their sins is ful , a king wil arise, a proud-faced,ingenious-minded man.
24 Seu poder aumentará, nunca porém por si mesmo. Fará monstruosas devastações, terá êxito nas suas empresas, exterminará os poderosos e o povo dos santos.	24 His power will grow greater and greater, though not through any power of his own; he wil plotincredible schemes, he wil succeed in whatever he undertakes, he wil destroy powerful men and the holy ones,God's people.
25 Graças à sua habilidade, fará triunfar sua perfídia, seu coração inchar-se-á de orgulho; mandará matar muita gente que não espera por isso, levantar-se-á contra o príncipe dos príncipes, mas será aniquilado sem a intervenção de mão humana.	25 Such wil be his resourcefulness of mind that all his treacherous activities wil succeed. He wil growarrogant of heart and destroy many people by taking them unawares. He wil chal enge the power of the Princeof princes but, without any human intervention, he will be broken.
26 A visão que te foi apresentada sobre as noites e as manhãs é perfeitamente verídica. Mas tu, guarda esta visão em segredo, pois ela se refere a dias longínquos.	26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been revealed is true, but you must keep thevision secret, for there are stil many days to go.'
27 Então, eu, Daniel, desfaleci. Estive doente durante muitos dias. Depois disso recomecei a trabalhar nos serviços do rei. Fiquei atônito com a visão que tive, completamente incompreensível para mim.	27 At this I, Daniel, lost consciousness; I was il for several days. Then I got up to discharge my duties inthe king's service, keeping the vision a secret and still not understanding what it meant.
