Jeremias 9

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Oh! tivesse eu em minha cabeça um manancial, e em meus olhos uma fonte de lágrimas! Dia e noite eu choraria os mortos da filha de meu povo.	1 Would that I had in the desert a travelers' lodge! That I might leave my people and depart from them. They are all adulterers, a faithless band.
2 Oh! se encontrasse eu no deserto um abrigo de viandantes; abandonaria meu povo, e para longe dele me afastaria, pois que não passa de uma legião de adúlteros, um bando de traidores.	2 They ready their tongues like a drawn bow; with lying, and not with truth, they hold forth in the land. They go from evil to evil, but me they know not, says the LORD.
3 Retesam a língua, como fazem a seus arcos, para o engodo; e a lealdade não permanece neles. Caminham de crime em crime; já nem me conhecem mais - oráculo do Senhor.	3 Be on your guard, everyone against his neighbor; put no trust in any brother. Every brother apes Jacob, the supplanter, every friend is guilty of slander.
4 Que se mantenha em guarda cada um de vós contra o amigo. Nem mesmo do irmão vos deveis fiar, pois que todo irmão procura suplantar, e todo amigo calunia.	4 Each one deceives the other, no one speaks the truth. They have accustomed their tongues to lying, and are perverse, and cannot repent.
5 Zombam do próximo todos eles; ninguém diz a verdade. Exercitam a língua na mentira, aplicam-se a fazer o mal.	5 Violence upon violence, deceit upon deceit: They refuse to recognize me, says the LORD.
6 Habitam no seio da falsidade; por má fé recusam conhecer-me - oráculo do Senhor.	6 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: I will smelt them and test them; how else should I deal with their wickedness?
7 Por isso, eis o que diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Vou fundi-los num cadinho para prová-los. Que outra coisa farei ante {a maldade} da filha de meu povo?	7 A murderous arrow is his tongue, his mouth utters deceit; He speaks cordially with his friends, but in his heart he lays an ambush!
8 Suas línguas são dardos mortíferos, que só proferem mentiras. Com a boca saúdam o próximo, enquanto no coração lhe armam ciladas.	8 For these things, says the LORD, shall I not punish them? On a nation such as this shall I not take vengeance?
9 Por tantos crimes não devo castigá-los - oráculo do Senhor - e não se vingará minha alma de semelhante nação?	9 Over the mountains, break out in cries of lamentation, over the pasture lands, intone a dirge: They are scorched, and no man crosses them, unheard is the bleat of the flock; Birds of the air as well as beasts, all have fled, and are gone.
10 A respeito dos montes erguerei gemidos; entoarei cânticos fúnebres sobre as planícies do deserto, porque o fogo devorou esses lugares e ninguém passa por eles. Nem mais se ouve o mugir do gado. Tanto as aves do céu como os animais, todos fugiram e desapareceram.	10 I will turn Jerusalem into a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; The cities of Judah I will make into a waste, where no one dwells.
11 Farei de Jerusalém um amontoado de pedras, um covil de chacais; e das cidades de Judá um deserto, onde ninguém mais habitará.	11 Who is so wise that he can understand this? Let him to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken make it known: Why is the land ravaged, scorched like a wasteland untraversed?
12 Haverá algum homem sábio que possa compreender essas coisas? A quem as revelou o Senhor a fim de que as explique? Por que perdeu-se essa terra, queimada como o deserto, por onde ninguém mais passa?	12 The LORD answered: Because they have abandoned my law, which I set before them, and have not followed it or listened to my voice,
13 É, diz o Senhor, porque abandonou a lei que lhe havia proposto, porque não escutou, nem seguiu a minha voz,	13 but followed rather the hardness of their hearts and the Baals, as their fathers had taught them;
14 mas sim os pendores de seu coração empedernido, e os ídolos que seus pais lhe haviam dado a conhecer.	14 therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: See now, I will give them wormwood to eat and poison to drink.
15 Eis por que disse o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: vou alimentá-lo com absinto, e lhe darei de beber água pestilenta.	15 I will scatter them among nations whom neither they nor their fathers have known; I will send the sword to pursue them until I have completely destroyed them.
16 Depois, dispersá-lo-ei entre nações que nem ele, nem seus pais conheceram, e contra ele enviarei uma espada que o abaterá até o extermínio.	16 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Attention! tell the wailing women to come, summon the best of them;
17 Eis o que diz o Senhor dos exércitos: tratai de chamar as carpideiras para que venham. E que venham as mais hábeis e não tardem,	17 Let them come quickly and intone a dirge for us, That our eyes may be wet with weeping, our cheeks run with tears.
18 para que, sem demora, entoem sobre nós suas lamúrias, e se fundam em lágrimas nossos olhos, e a água brote de nossas pálpebras,	18 The dirge is heard from Zion: Ruined we are, and greatly ashamed; We must leave the land, give up our homes!
19 pois que seu canto fúnebre se elevou em Sião: Por que fomos assim devastados? Cheios de vergonha, devemos abandonar a terra, já que foram derrubadas nossas casas.	19 Hear, you women, the word of the LORD, let your ears receive his message. Teach your daughters this dirge, and each other this lament.
20 Mulheres, escutai a palavra do Senhor. E que vossos ouvidos compreendam o que sua boca profere! Ensinai a vossas filhas essa lamentação; cada uma ensine à companheira esse canto fúnebre:	20 Death has come up through our windows, has entered our palaces; It cuts down the children in the street, young people in the squares.
21 A morte assomou às nossas janelas, introduzindo-se em nossos palácios, exterminando crianças nas ruas e jovens nas praças públicas.	21 The corpses of the slain lie like dung on a field, Like sheaves behind the harvester, with no one to gather them.
22 Cadáveres humanos jazem como esterco nos campos, como feixes atrás do segador. E ninguém os recolhe.	22 Thus says the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor the strong man glory in his strength, nor the rich man glory in his riches;
23 Eis o que diz o Senhor: não se envaideça o sábio do saber, nem o forte de sua força, e da riqueza não se orgulhe o rico!	23 But rather, let him who glories, glory in this, that in his prudence he knows me, Knows that I, the LORD, bring about kindness, justice and uprightness on the earth; For with such am I pleased, says the LORD.
24 Aquele, porém, que se quiser vangloriar, glorie-se de possuir inteligência e de saber que eu, seu Senhor, exerço a bondade, o direito e a justiça sobre a terra, pois nisso encontro o meu agrado - oráculo do Senhor.	24 See, days are coming, says the LORD, when I will demand an account of all those circumcised in their flesh:
25 Dias virão - oráculo do Senhor - em que castigarei todos os circuncidados que conservam seus prepúcios:	25 Egypt and Judah, Edom and the Ammonites, Moab and the desert dwellers who shave their temples. For all these nations, like the whole house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
26 o Egito, Judá e Edom, os filhos de Amon e Moab e todos os habitantes do deserto que rapam os cabelos das fontes. Porquanto, todas as nações {são incircuncisas, tais como} todos os da casa de Israel são incircuncisos de coração.
