Jeremias 8

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Naquele tempo - oráculo do Senhor - serão retirados de seus sepulcros os ossos dos reis de Judá, dos seus chefes e sacerdotes, dos seus profetas e habitantes de Jerusalém.	1 'When that time comes, Yahweh declares, the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of its chief men,the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, wil be takenfrom their tombs.
2 E serão expostos ao sol, à lua e à multidão das estrelas que tanto amaram e serviram, e que seguiram, consultaram e adoraram. Esses ossos não serão mais recolhidos, nem enterrados, permanecendo como adubo na superfície do solo.	2 They wil be spread out before the sun, the moon, the whole array of heaven, whom they have loved andserved, fol owed, consulted and worshipped. They wil not be gathered or reburied but will be left lying on thesurface like dung.
3 Preferível à vida será a morte para os sobreviventes dessa raça perversa, em todos os lugares pelos quais eu os houver dispersado - oráculo do Senhor dos exércitos.	3 And death will seem preferable to life to al the survivors of this wicked race, wherever I have driventhem, Yahweh Sabaoth declares.
4 Dir-lhe-ás, então: Eis o que diz o Senhor: não se deverá levantar aquele que tomba? Não voltará aquele que se desviou?	4 'You are to tel them, "Yahweh says this: If someone fal s, can he not stand up again? If people stray,can they not turn back?
5 Por que persiste esse povo de Jerusalém em perpétua loucura? Obstinam-se na má fé, recusando converter-se.	5 Why does this people persist in acts of infidelity, why does Jerusalem persist in continuous infidelity?They cling to il usion, they refuse to turn back.
6 Atentamente os escutei: não falam, porém, com sinceridade. Nem um deles se arrepende da maldade e não clama: Que fiz eu? Retomam todos a caminhada, à semelhança do cavalo que se arremessa à batalha.	6 I have listened attentively: they have never said anything like that. Not one repents of wickednesssaying: What have I done? Each one keeps returning to the course like a horse charging into battle.
7 Até a cegonha pelo ar reconhece a estação, e as rolas e as andorinhas são fiéis à migração. O meu povo, porém, não conhece a lei do Senhor.	7 Even the stork in the sky knows the appropriate season; turtledove, swal ow and crane observe theirtime of migration. But my people do not know Yahweh's laws!" '
8 Como podeis dizer: Somos sábios, e temos conosco a lei do Senhor? Na verdade foi a mentira que fez desta lei o estilete enganador dos escribas.	8 How can you say, 'We are wise, since we have Yahweh's Law?' Look how it has been falsified by thelying pen of the scribes!
9 Os sábios consternados e confundidos ficarão cobertos de vergonha, por haverem repelido a palavra do Senhor; qual seria então a sabedoria deles?	9 The wise are put to shame, alarmed, caught out because they have rejected Yahweh's word. What pricetheir wisdom now?
10 Eis por que a outros darei suas mulheres, e seus campos a novos donos, já que, do menor ao maior deles, todos se entregam aos lucros desonestos. Desde o profeta até o sacerdote, praticam todos a mentira.	10 So I shal give their wives to other men, their fields to new masters, for, from the least to greatest, theyare al greedy for gain; prophet no less than priest, al of them practise fraud.
11 Tratam sem cuidado da ferida da filha do meu povo, e dizem: Vai tudo bem! Vai tudo bem! quando vai tudo mal.	11 Without concern they dress the wound of the daughter of my people, saying, 'Peace! Peace!' whereasthere is no peace.
12 Pelo seu proceder abominável serão confundidos, mas nem ao menos conhecem a vergonha, e nem o que seja enrubescer. Assim como os que caem, tombarão também e perecerão no dia do castigo - oráculo do Senhor.	12 They should be ashamed of their loathsome deeds. Not they! They feel no shame, they do not evenknow how to blush. And so as others fall, they too wil fal , will be thrown down when the time for punishing themcomes, Yahweh says.
13 Vou reuni-los todos e arrebatá-los - oráculo do Senhor. Mas não havia uma só uva na vinha, nem figo na figueira. A folhagem havia murchado. E assim lhes dei quem os haveria de conquistar.	13 I shal put an end to them, Yahweh declares, no more grapes on the vine, no more figs on the fig treeonly withered leaves: I have found them people to trample on them!
14 Para que ainda nos determos? Reuni-vos, e vamos para as praças fortes: lá havemos de perecer. Porquanto o Senhor, nosso Deus, decidiu que pereçamos, fazendo-nos beber água envenenada, já que pecamos contra ele.	14 Why are we sitting still? Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns and there fall silent, since Yahweh ourGod means to silence us by giving us poisoned water to drink because we have sinned against him.
15 Aguardávamos a felicidade e nenhum bem encontramos, nenhum tempo de exaltação, e só vemos o terror.	15 We are hoping for peace -- no good came of it! For the time of healing -- nothing but terror!
16 Ouve-se, desde Dã, o relinchar dos cavalos, e toda a terra estremece com o estrépito de seus corcéis, que ao chegarem destroem a terra e o quanto nela existe: a cidade e os habitantes.	16 From Dan you can hear the snorting of his horses; at the neighing of his stal ions the whole countryquakes; they are coming to devour the country and its contents, the town and those that live in it.
17 Vou lançar serpentes contra vós, e víboras insensíveis aos encantamentos, que vos morderão - oráculo do Senhor.	17 Yes, now I am sending you poisonous snakes against which no charm exists; and they wil bite you,Yahweh declares.
18 Onde encontrar consolo para a minha dor? Dentro de mim sofre o coração. Chega-me de uma terra longínqua	18 Incurable sorrow overtakes me, my heart fails me.
19 a voz amargurada da filha do meu povo: Não está mais o Senhor em Sião? E nela não mora mais o seu rei? Por que me irritaram com seus ídolos, com as vãs divindades de outros países?	19 Hark, from the daughter of my people the cry for help, ringing far and wide throughout the land! 'IsYahweh no longer in Zion, her King no longer there?' (Why have they provoked me with their idols, with theirfutile foreign gods?)
20 Passou a ceifa; terminou a colheita, e não nos chegou a libertação.	20 'Harvest is over, summer at an end, and we have not been saved!'
21 Faz-me sofrer a chaga da filha de meu povo, cobre-me o luto; apossa-se de mim a desolação.	21 The wound of the daughter of my people wounds me too, all looks dark to me, terror grips me.
22 Não haverá mais bálsamo de Galaad? Nem se poderá encontrar um médico? Por que, então, a ferida da filha de um povo não se há de cicatrizar?	22 Is there no balm in Gilead any more? Is no doctor there? Then why is there no progress in the cure ofthe daughter of my people?
	23 Who wil turn my head into a fountain, and my eyes into a spring of tears, that I can weep day and nightover the slain of the daughter of my people?
