Jeremias 5

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Percorrei as ruas de Jerusalém, olhai, perguntai; procurai nas praças, vede se nelas encontrais um homem, um só homem que pratique a justiça e que seja leal; então eu perdoarei a cidade.	1 Rove the streets of Jerusalem, now look and enquire, see in her squares if you can find an individual,one individual who does right and seeks the truth, and I will pardon her, Yahweh says.
2 Mesmo quando juram: Pela vida de Deus!, é para prestar falso juramento.	2 Although they say, 'As Yahweh lives,' they are, in fact, swearing a false oath.
3 Senhor, não se compraz o vosso olhar em contemplar a lealdade? Vós os feris, e eles não sentem a dor; vós os abateis, e recusam aceitar a correção. Mais duro que o rochedo apresentam o semblante, recusando converter-se.	3 Yahweh, do your eyes not look for truth? You have struck them; they have not felt it. You haveannihilated them, for they ignored the lesson. They have set their faces harder than rock, they have refused torepent.
4 E a mim mesmo eu dizia: são apenas vulgares e insensatos, porque não conhecem os caminhos do Senhor, a lei do seu Deus.	4 I thought, 'These are only the poor! They behave stupidly since they do not know Yahweh's way or theruling of their God.
5 Irei procurar os grandes para falar-lhes, pois que eles conhecem as sendas do Senhor, a lei do seu Deus. Mas todos esses também quebraram o jugo, e romperam os laços.	5 I shal approach the great men and speak to them, for these will know Yahweh's way and the ruling oftheir God.' But these, too, have broken the yoke, have burst the bonds.
6 Eis por que o leão da floresta os ferirá e o lobo da estepe os dizimará; a pantera os espreitará em suas cidades; e aquele que dela sair será despedaçado, porquanto numerosos são os seus delitos, e sem conta suas revoltas.	6 And so, a lion from the forest will slaughter them, a wolf from the plains will despoil them, a leopard wilbe lurking round their towns: anyone who goes out will be torn to pieces -- because of their many crimes, theircountless infidelities.
7 Por que perdoar-te? Teus filhos abandonaram-me; juram por deuses que não o são. Cumulei-os de dons; e eles cometem o adultério, acercando-se das casas de devassidão.	7 'Why should I pardon you? Your sons have abandoned me, to swear by gods that are not gods at al . Ifed them full, and they became adulterers, they hurried to the brothel.
8 Garanhões bem nutridos, no calor do cio, cada qual relincha ante a mulher do próximo.	8 They are well-fed, roving stal ions, each neighing for his neighbour's wife.
9 E não os punirei por esses crimes? - oráculo do Senhor. Não se vingaria minha alma de semelhante nação?	9 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?
10 Escalai muros {de minha videira}, destruí-a, mas não a aniquileis completamente. Arrancai-lhe os sarmentos, porquanto não pertencem ao Senhor.	10 Scale her terraces! Destroy! But do not annihilate her completely! Strip off her branches, for Yahwehdoes not own them!
11 A casa de Israel e a casa de Judá foram-me infiéis - oráculo do Senhor.	11 How treacherously they have treated me, the House of Israel and the House of Judah! Yahwehdeclares.
12 Renegaram o Senhor, e exclamaram: Não há Deus! Nenhum mal nos advirá, não veremos a espada e a fome.	12 'They have denied Yahweh, they have said, "He is nothing; no evil wil overtake us, we shall not seesword or famine.
13 São apenas vento os profetas, de ninguém são arautos; assim lhes aconteça a eles mesmos.	13 And the prophets? Nothing but wind; the word is not in them; let those very things happen to them!" '
14 Por isso, o Senhor, Deus dos exércitos, vos diz: Já que tendes essa linguagem, vou introduzir minhas palavras como fogo em tua boca, e desse povo fazer lenha que a chama devorará.	14 Because of this, Yahweh, God Sabaoth, says this, 'Since you have said such things, now I shal makemy words a fire in your mouth, and make this people wood, for the fire to devour.
15 Ó casa de Israel, vou lançar contra vós uma nação que vem de longe - oráculo do Senhor -, nação antiga e poderosa, da qual não compreendes a linguagem, e ignoras a fala.	15 Now I shall bring on you a nation from afar, House of Israel, Yahweh declares, an enduring nation, anancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, nor can you grasp what they say.
16 Sua aljava é qual sepulcro escancarado, e seus homens todos são valentes;	16 Their quiver a gaping tomb, they are al of them fighters.
17 ela devorará tuas searas e teu pão, devorará teus filhos e tuas filhas, devorará teus rebanhos e teu gado, devorará tuas vinhas e tuas figueiras, à ponta da espada conquistará as praças fortes nas quais depositas tua confiança.	17 They will devour your harvest and your food, devour your sons and daughters, devour your flocks andherds, devour your vines and fig trees, and demolish your fortified towns in which you trust -- with the sword!'
18 Mesmo, porém, naqueles dias, disse o Senhor, não vos exterminarei de todo.	18 'Yet even in those days, Yahweh declares, I shal not annihilate you completely.
19 E, quando disserdes: Por que assim nos tratou o Senhor Deus? - responderás: Assim como me abandonastes para servir em vossa terra a deuses estrangeiros, assim também servireis a estrangeiros em terra que não é a vossa.	19 'And when you ask, "Why has Yahweh our God done al this to us?" you wil give them this answer, "As you abandon me to serve alien gods in your own country, so you must serve aliens in a country not your own."
20 Anunciai isto à casa de Jacó, proclamai o que segue à terra de Judá:	20 'Announce this in the House of Jacob, proclaim it in Judah, and say,
21 escutai bem, povo insensato e sem inteligência: vós que tendes olhos para não ver e ouvidos para não ouvir:	21 "Now listen to this, stupid, brainless people who have eyes and do not see, who have ears and do nothear!
22 Não temeis a minha face? - oráculo do Senhor. Não tremeis diante de mim, eu que fixei a areia como limite ao mar, barreira eterna que não será ultrapassada? Por mais que se lhe agitem as ondas, são impotentes, murmuram, mas não vão além;	22 Have you no fear of me? Yahweh demands. Wil you not tremble before me who set the sand as limit to the sea, as an everlasting barrier it cannot pass? Its waves may toss but not prevail, they may roar but cannotpass beyond.
23 enquanto tiver esse povo um coração indócil e rebelde, recuará e ir-se-á embora.	23 But this people has a rebellious, unruly heart; they have rebelled and gone!
24 E em seu coração não dirá: temamos ao Senhor, nosso Deus, que no tempo devido nos manda a chuva do outono e a chuva da primavera, e nos garante as semanas destinadas à colheita.	24 Nor do they say to themselves: Now we ought to fear Yahweh our God who gives the rain, of autumnand of spring, at the right season, and reserves us the weeks appointed for harvest.
25 Foram vossas iniqüidades que alteraram essa ordem, vossos pecados que vos privaram desses bens.	25 Your misdeeds have upset al this, your sins have deprived you of these blessings."
26 Porquanto perversos se encontram no seio de meu povo, que espreitam, de tocaia, como caçadores de pássaros, armando laços para apanhar os homens.	26 Yes, there are wicked men among my people who watch like fowlers on the alert; they set traps andthey catch human beings.
27 À semelhança de uma gaiola cheia de pássaros, assim estão suas casas repletas {de fruto} de suas presas. Por esta forma tornam-se ricos e poderosos,	27 Like a cage full of birds so are their houses full of loot; they have grown rich and powerful because of it,
28 e se apresentam nutridos e reluzentes; ultrapassam, porém, os limites do mal. Não procedem com justiça para com o órfão, mas prosperam! E não fazem justiça aos infelizes!	28 they are fat, they are sleek, in wickedness they go to any lengths: they have no respect for rights, fororphans' rights, and yet they succeed! They have not upheld the cause of the needy.
29 Como não repreender tamanhos excessos - oráculo do Senhor - e não vingar-me de semelhante nação?	29 Shal I fail to punish this, Yahweh demands, or on such a nation to exact vengeance?
30 Coisas horríveis, espantosas, ocorreram nesta terra:	30 Horrible, disgusting things are happening in the land:
31 mentem os profetas em seus oráculos, os sacerdotes dominam pela força. E meu povo mostra-se satisfeito! Que fareis vós, quando chegar o fim?	31 the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests exploit the people. And my people love it! But when theend comes, what wil you do?
