Isaías 53

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quem poderia acreditar nisso que ouvimos? A quem foi revelado o braço do Senhor?	1 Who has given credence to what we have heard? And who has seen in it a revelation of Yahweh'sarm?
2 Cresceu diante dele como um pobre rebento enraizado numa terra árida; não tinha graça nem beleza para atrair nossos olhares, e seu aspecto não podia seduzir-nos.	2 Like a sapling he grew up before him, like a root in arid ground. He had no form or charm to attract us,no beauty to win our hearts;
3 Era desprezado, era a escória da humanidade, homem das dores, experimentado nos sofrimentos; como aqueles, diante dos quais se cobre o rosto, era amaldiçoado e não fazíamos caso dele.	3 he was despised, the lowest of men, a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering, one from whom, as itwere, we averted our gaze, despised, for whom we had no regard.
4 Em verdade, ele tomou sobre si nossas enfermidades, e carregou os nossos sofrimentos: e nós o reputávamos como um castigado, ferido por Deus e humilhado.	4 Yet ours were the sufferings he was bearing, ours the sorrows he was carrying, while we thought of himas someone being punished and struck with affliction by God;
5 Mas ele foi castigado por nossos crimes, e esmagado por nossas iniqüidades; o castigo que nos salva pesou sobre ele; fomos curados graças às suas chagas.	5 whereas he was being wounded for our rebel ions, crushed because of our guilt; the punishmentreconciling us fel on him, and we have been healed by his bruises.
6 Todos nós andávamos desgarrados como ovelhas, seguíamos cada qual nosso caminho; o Senhor fazia recair sobre ele o castigo das faltas de todos nós.	6 We had al gone astray like sheep, each taking his own way, and Yahweh brought the acts of rebellionof al of us to bear on him.
7 Foi maltratado e resignou-se; não abriu a boca, como um cordeiro que se conduz ao matadouro, e uma ovelha muda nas mãos do tosquiador. {Ele não abriu a boca.}	7 Il -treated and afflicted, he never opened his mouth, like a lamb led to the slaughter-house, like a sheepdumb before its shearers he never opened his mouth.
8 Por um iníquo julgamento foi arrebatado. Quem pensou em defender sua causa, quando foi suprimido da terra dos vivos, morto pelo pecado de meu povo?	8 Forcibly, after sentence, he was taken. Which of his contemporaries was concerned at his having beencut off from the land of the living, at his having been struck dead for his people's rebel ion?
9 Foi-lhe dada sepultura ao lado de fascínoras e ao morrer achava-se entre malfeitores, se bem que não haja cometido injustiça alguma, e em sua boca nunca tenha havido mentira.	9 He was given a grave with the wicked, and his tomb is with the rich, although he had done no violence,had spoken no deceit.
10 Mas aprouve ao Senhor esmagá-lo pelo sofrimento; se ele oferecer sua vida em sacrifício expiatório, terá uma posteridade duradoura, prolongará seus dias, e a vontade do Senhor será por ele realizada.	10 It was Yahweh's good pleasure to crush him with pain; if he gives his life as a sin offering, he wil seehis offspring and prolong his life, and through him Yahweh's good pleasure wil be done.
11 Após suportar em sua pessoa os tormentos, alegrar-se-á de conhecê-lo até o enlevo. O Justo, meu Servo, justificará muitos homens, e tomará sobre si suas iniqüidades.	11 After the ordeal he has endured, he wil see the light and be content. By his knowledge, the uprightone, my servant wil justify many by taking their guilt on himself.
12 Eis por que lhe darei parte com os grandes, e ele dividirá a presa com os poderosos: porque ele próprio deu sua vida, e deixou-se colocar entre os criminosos, tomando sobre si os pecados de muitos homens, e intercedendo pelos culpados.	12 Hence I shall give him a portion with the many, and he wil share the booty with the mighty, for havingexposed himself to death and for being counted as one of the rebel ious, whereas he was bearing the sin ofmany and interceding for the rebel ious.
