1 No sétimo ano, Jojada, cheio de coragem, conquistou a fidelidade dos centuriões Azarias, filho de Jerão, Ismael, filho de Joanã, Azarias, filho de Obed, Maasias, filho de Adaías e Elisafat, filho de Zecri.	1 In the seventh year, Jehoiada took courage and entered a conspiracy with certain captains: Azariah, son of Jehoram; Ishmael, son of Jehohanan; Azariah, son of Obed; Masseiah, son of Adaiah; and Elishaphat, son of Zichri.
2 Percorreram Judá e reuniram os levitas de todas as cidades de Judá, assim como os chefes de família de Israel; em seguida, retornaram a Jerusalém.	2 They journeyed about Judah, gathering the Levites from all the cities of Judah and also the heads of the Israelite families. When they had come to Jerusalem,
3 Todo esse grupo fez uma aliança com o rei no templo. Eis, disse-lhes Jojada, o filho do rei que deve reinar, segundo a declaração do Senhor referente aos filhos de Davi.	3 the whole assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. Jehoiada said to them: "Here is the king's son who must reign, as the LORD promised concerning the sons of David.
4 Eis o que fareis: um terço dentre vós, sacerdotes e levitas, que fazem o serviço do sábado, estará de guarda às portas do templo;	4 This is what you must do: a third of your number, both priests and Levites, who come in on the sabbath must guard the thresholds,
5 um terço vigiará o palácio real, e um terço guardará a porta de Jesod, enquanto que todo o resto do povo ocupará os átrios do templo.	5 another third must be at the king's palace, and the final third at the Foundation Gate, when all the people will be in the courts of the LORD'S temple.
6 Ninguém entra no templo, a não ser os sacerdotes e levitas de serviço, os quais podem entrar, pois que são consagrados. E todo o povo observará o que foi ordenado pelo Senhor.	6 Let no one enter the LORD'S house except the priests and those Levites who are ministering. They may enter because they are holy; but all the other people must observe the prescriptions of the LORD.
7 Os levitas, com as armas na mão, rodearão o rei. E todo aquele que tentar entrar no templo será morto. Seguireis o rei em todas as suas idas e vindas.	7 The Levites shall surround the king on all sides, each with his weapon drawn. Whoever tries to enter the house must be slain. Stay with the king wherever he goes."
8 Os levitas e todo o Judá seguiram à risca todas as ordens do sacerdote Jojada. Cada um deles reuniu seus homens, tanto aqueles que começavam seu serviço do sábado como aqueles que terminavam, pois o sacerdote Jojada não tinha dispensado nenhuma categoria.	8 The Levites and all Judah did just as Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each brought his men, those who were to come in on the sabbath as well as those who were to depart on the sabbath, since Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed any of the divisions.
9 Ele próprio entregou aos centuriões lanças, como também os escudos pequenos e grandes do rei Davi, conservados no templo.	9 Jehoiada the priest gave the captains the spears, shields and bucklers of King David which were in the house of God.
10 Em seguida, colocou toda a tropa, com as armas na mão, ao longo do altar e do edifício, desde o ângulo sul até o ângulo norte do templo, de tal modo que rodeava o rei.	10 He stationed all the people, each with his spear in hand, from the southern to the northern extremity of the enclosure, around the altar and the temple on the king's behalf.
11 Em seguida, trouxeram o filho do rei e o cingiram com o diadema e lhe entregaram a Lei. Ele foi proclamado rei. Jojada e seus filhos ungiram-no, clamando: Viva o rei!	11 Then they brought out the king's son, set the crown and the insignia upon him, and made him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they cried, "Long live the king!"
12 Atalia, contudo, ao ouvir os gritos do povo que acorria, para aclamar o rei, dirigiu-se através da multidão ao templo do Senhor,	12 When Athaliah heard the din of the people running and acclaiming the king, she went to the people in the temple of the LORD.
13 e eis o que ela viu: o rei de pé, sobre um estrado, à entrada do templo; os chefes e os tocadores de trombeta ao lado dele; todo o povo alegre a seu lado, enquanto tocavam as trombetas; e os cantores, com instrumentos de música, dirigiam os cânticos de louvor. Então ela rasgou seus vestidos e, gritou: Traição, traição!	13 She looked, and there was the king standing beside his pillar at the entrance, the officers and the trumpeters around him, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, while the singers with their musical instruments were leading the acclaim. Athaliah tore her garments and cried out, "Treason! treason!"
14 Mas o sacerdote Jojada deu esta ordem aos centuriões que comandavam as tropas: Arrastai-a para fora, por entre as vossas fileiras. Se alguém quiser segui-la, passai-o ao fio de vossa espada. Pois o sacerdote tinha impedido que a matassem dentro do templo do Senhor.	14 Then Jehoiada the priest sent out the captains who were in command of the army; he said to them: "Take her outside through the ranks, and if anyone tries to follow her, let him die by the sword. For," the priest continued, "you must not put her to death in the LORD'S temple."
15 Agarraram-na, e, ao chegarem ao palácio real pelo portão dos cavalos, foi ela morta nesse lugar.	15 So they seized her, and when she arrived at the entrance to the Horse Gate of the palace, they put her to death there.
16 Jojada fez uma aliança entre si mesmo, o rei e o povo, uma aliança segundo a qual o povo devia pertencer ao Senhor.	16 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.
17 Então toda a população penetrou no templo de Baal e o pilharam. Deixaram em pedaços seus altares e suas imagens e assassinaram diante dos altares Matã, sacerdote de Baal.	17 And all the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed its altars and images, and they slew Mattan, the priest of Baal, before the altars.
18 Em seguida, Jojada postou sentinelas no templo do Senhor, sob a direção de sacerdotes e levitas, que Davi tinha dividido em categorias no templo para o oferecimento dos holocaustos ao Senhor {assim como está escrito na lei de Moisés}, entre cantos de alegria, conforme as disposições de Davi.	18 Then Jehoiada gave the charge of the LORD'S temple into the hands of the levitical priests, to whom David had assigned turns in the temple for offering the holocausts of the LORD, as is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and song, as David had provided.
19 Colocou também porteiros às portas do templo, para que ninguém, atingido por alguma mancha, nele pudesse entrar.	19 Moreover, he stationed guards at the gates of the LORD'S temple so that no one unclean in any respect might enter.
20 Tomou consigo os centuriões, as pessoas importantes, aqueles que exerciam alguma função entre o povo, assim como toda a população da terra. Fizeram todos um cortejo ao rei, quando este saiu do templo do Senhor. Entraram no palácio real pela porta superior e estabeleceram o rei no trono.	20 Then he took the captains, the nobles, the rulers among the people, and all the people of the land, and led the king out of the LORD'S house. When they had come within the upper gate of the king's house, they seated the king upon the royal throne.
21 Toda a população da terra regozijou-se; contudo, a calma reinava na cidade, enquanto Atalia era morta com um golpe de espada.	21 All the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet, now that Athaliah had been put to death by the sword.
