SAGRADA BIBLIANEW JERUSALEM
Seu filho Josafá sucedeu-lhe no trono. Ele se fortificou contra Israel.1 When his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him, he made himself stronger against Israel
Colocou tropas em todas as cidades fortes de Judá, guarnições em toda a terra e nas cidades de Efraim das quais se tinha apoderado seu pai Asa.2 by stationing troops in al the fortified towns in Judah and by garrisoning Judah and the towns ofEphraim which his father Asa had captured.
O Senhor estava com Josafá, porque este seguia os exemplos que, a princípio, dera seu pai: não corria atrás dos Baal,3 Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat because he fol owed the example of his father's earlier days and didnot have recourse to Baal,
Todo o Judá lhe trazia presentes; teve riqueza em abundância e glória.5 Because of this, Yahweh put him in secure control of the kingdom, while al Judah gave Jehoshaphatpresents until ample riches and honour were his.
Cheio de confiança na obra do Senhor, fez desaparecer de Judá os lugares altos e os ídolos asserás.6 He was so enthusiastic about obeying Yahweh that once again he abolished the high places andsacred poles in Judah.
In the third year of his reign he sent his leading men-Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel andMicaiah, to give instruction in the towns of Judah.
Ele os fez acompanhar pelos levitas Semeías, Natanias, Zabadias, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatã, Adonias, Tobias, Tobadonias, e pelos sacerdotes Elisama e Jorão.8 With them went the Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan,Adonijah and Tobijah, the Levites; Elishama and Jehoram the priests went with them.
Ensinaram em Judá, levando consigo o livro da lei do Senhor, e percorreram todas as cidades de Judá, instruindo o povo.9 They gave instruction in Judah, having with them the book of the Law of Yahweh, and went round althe towns of Judah instructing the people.
A panic from Yahweh seized all the kings of the countries surrounding Judah, as a result of whichthey did not make war on Jehoshaphat.
Mesmo os filisteus vieram trazer a Josafá presentes e um tributo em prata; os árabes também lhe trouxeram gado miúdo: sete mil e setecentos carneiros e sete mil e setecentos bodes.11 Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and a load of silver and the Arabs brought himseven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.
Josafá aumentava seu poder. Construiu em Judá fortalezas e cidades de entrepostos.12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful. He built fortresses and storage towns in Judah.
Realizou grandes trabalhos nas cidades de Judá. Havia em Jerusalém guerreiros cheios de valentia.13 He accumulated ample supplies in the towns of Judah. He also had warriors, outstanding men, inJerusalem.
Eis a sua enumeração segundo suas famílias: de Judá, os chefes de milhares eram: o chefe Adna, com trezentos mil valentes guerreiros;14 According to family, this is how they were classified: Over the commanders of the thousands ofJudah was General Adnah, who had three hundred thousand outstanding men;
ao seu lado o chefe Joanã, com duzentos e oitenta mil valentes guerreiros;15 Under him was General Jehohanan, who had two hundred and eighty thousand;
ao seu lado Amasias, filho de Zecri, voluntariamente consagrado ao Senhor, com duzentos mil valentes guerreiros.16 Under him was Amasiah son of Zichri, who had volunteered for Yahweh and who had two hundredthousand outstanding men;
De Benjamim: o valoroso Eliada, com duzentos mil homens providos de arcos e de escudos;17 That outstanding soldier, Eliada, represented Benjamin, and he had two hundred thousand menarmed with bow and shield;
And under him Jehozabad, who had one hundred and eighty thousand equipped for war.
These were in attendance on the king, apart from those whom the king had stationed in the fortifiedtowns al over Judah.
