II Livro das Crônicas 1

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Salomão, filho de Davi, consolidou-se no seu reino. O Senhor, seu Deus, estava com ele e desenvolvia seu poder.	1 Solomon son of David then made himself secure over his kingdom. Yahweh his God was with him,making him more and more powerful.
2 O rei deu ordens a todo o Israel, aos chefes de milhares, chefes de centenas, aos juízes e aos príncipes, aos principais chefes de família,	2 Solomon then spoke to al Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges andto every leader in all Israel, the heads of families.
3 e todos com ele dirigiram-se ao lugar alto de Gabaon; pois é lá que se encontrava a tenda de reunião de Deus, que Moisés, servo do Senhor, tinha construído no deserto.	3 Solomon, and the whole assembly with him, then went to the high place at Gibeon, where God's Tentof Meeting was, which Moses, servant of God, had made in the desert.
4 Quanto à arca de Deus, Davi a tinha transportado de Cariatiarim ao lugar que lhe tinha preparado, pois havia preparado para ela um pavilhão em Jerusalém.	4 The ark of the covenant, however, David had brought from Kiriath-Jearim to the place which he hadprepared for it, having pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.
5 Encontrava-se também em Gabaon, diante do santuário do Senhor, o altar de bronze que Bezeleel, filho de Uri, filho de Hur, tinha construído. Salomão vinha, pois, consultar o Senhor, com a assembléia.	5 The bronze altar which Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, had made was there, in front of Yahweh'sDwelling, where Solomon and the assembly consulted him.
6 Lá, sobre o altar de bronze, na presença do Senhor, perto da tenda de reunião, Salomão ofereceu mil holocaustos.	6 There Solomon presented a burnt offering before Yahweh on the bronze altar of the Tent of Meeting,making on it one thousand burnt offerings.
7 Nessa mesma noite, Deus apareceu ao rei e lhe disse: Pede o que desejas, que eu te dou.	7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said, 'Ask what you would like me to give you.'
8 Salomão respondeu a Deus: Vós tratastes meu pai Davi com uma grande benevolência, e me fizestes rei em seu lugar.	8 Solomon replied to God, 'You showed most faithful love to David my father, and you have made meking in succession to him.
9 Senhor, Deus, ratificai, portanto, a promessa que fizestes a Davi, meu pai, já que me fizestes rei de um povo numeroso como o pó da terra.	9 Yahweh God, the promise you made to David my father has now been fulfil ed, since you have mademe king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
10 Dignai-vos, portanto, conceder-me a sabedoria e a inteligência, a fim de que eu saiba como me conduzir à frente desse povo. {Sem isso}, quem poderia governar esse povo tão grande como é o vosso?	10 Therefore give me wisdom and knowledge to act as leader of this people, for how otherwise couldsuch a great people as yours be governed?'
11 Disse Deus a Salomão: Já que este é o desejo de teu coração, e não me pedes nem riquezas, nem tesouros, nem glória, nem a vida de teus inimigos, nem uma longa vida, mas me pedes sabedoria e inteligência a fim de bem governar o povo do qual eu te fiz rei,	11 'Since that is what you want,' God said to Solomon, 'since you have asked, not for riches, treasure,honour, the lives of your enemies, or even for a long life, but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people ofwhom I have made you king,
12 pois bem, a sabedoria e a inteligência ser-te-ão concedidas, mas também riquezas, tesouros e glória mais do que jamais possuíram os reis, teus predecessores, e que jamais possuirão teus sucessores.	12 therefore wisdom and knowledge are granted you. I give you riches too, and treasure, and honoursuch as no king had before you and none will have after you.'
13 Então, descendo do lugar alto de Gabaon onde estava a tenda de reunião, Salomão retornou a Jerusalém. Ele reinava sobre Israel.	13 So Solomon came away from the high place at Gibeon, from the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem andreigned over Israel.
14 Ajuntou ele carros e cavalos: possuía mil e quatrocentos carros e doze mil cavaleiros, que colocou nas cidades para os carros, assim como em Jerusalém, perto de si.	14 Solomon then built up a force of chariots and cavalry; he had one thousand four hundred chariots andtwelve thousand horses; these he kept in the chariot towns and near the king at Jerusalem.
15 Graças a ele, a prata e o ouro tornaram-se em Jerusalém tão comuns como pedras, e os cedros tão numerosos como os sicômoros da planície.	15 In Jerusalem the king made silver and gold as common as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful assycamore in the lowlands.
16 Era do Egito que Salomão importava seus cavalos; uma caravana de fornecedores reais ia buscá-los em tropas por um preço ajustado.	16 Solomon's horses were imported from Muzur and Cilicia. The king's dealers acquired them in Cilicia atthe prevailing price.
17 Importavam do Egito uma parelha completa por seiscentos siclos de prata; e um cavalo por cento e cinqüenta. Assim, da mesma maneira, faziam vir para os reis dos hititas e para os da Síria.	17 A chariot was imported from Egypt for six hundred silver shekels and a horse from Cilicia for ahundred and fifty. They also supplied the Hittite and Aramaean kings, who al used them as middlemen.
	18 Solomon then gave the order to build a house for the name of Yahweh and a palace in which to reign.
