SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 No décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Jeroboão, filho de Nabat, Abião tornou-se rei de Judá.	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 Reinou três anos em Jerusalém. Sua mãe chamava-se Maaca, filha de Absalão.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 Abião entregou-se a todos os pecados que seu pai tinha cometido antes dele. Seu coração não era inteiramente fiel ao Senhor, como o de seu pai Davi.	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 Todavia, o Senhor, seu Deus, em atenção a Davi, conservou-lhe uma lâmpada em Jerusalém: deu-lhe um filho que lhe sucedeu, e deixou subsistir Jerusalém.	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 Porque Davi tinha feito o que era reto aos olhos do Senhor, e não se tinha jamais desviado em toda a sua vida de um só dos mandamentos que recebera, exceto o que se passou com Urias, o hiteu.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).
6 Houve hostilidades contínuas entre Roboão e Jeroboão durante toda a sua vida.	6 .

8 Depois disso, Abião adormeceu com seus pais e foi sepultado na cidade de Davi. Seu filho Asa sucedeu-lhe no trono.	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 No vigésimo ano de Jeroboão, rei de Israel, Asa tornou-se rei de Judá, e reinou quarenta e um anos em Jerusalém.	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 Sua mãe chamava-se Maaca, filha de Absalão.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Asa fez o que é reto aos olhos do Senhor, como Davi, seu pai.	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 Expulsou da terra as prostitutas {sagradas} e acabou com todos os ídolos que seus pais tinham feito.	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 Além disso, destituiu da dignidade de rainha sua própria mãe Maaca, por ter feito essa vergonha de asserá. Asa despedaçou esse ídolo e queimou-o no vale de Cedron.	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 Embora não tenham desaparecido os lugares altos, o coração de Asa foi inteiramente devotado ao Senhor durante toda a sua vida.	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 Pôs no templo do Senhor todos os objetos consagrados por seu pai e por ele mesmo, a prata, o ouro e os utensílios.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Asa e Baasa, rei de Israel, guerrearam-se mutuamente durante toda a sua vida.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 Baasa, rei de Israel, atacou Judá e fortificou Ramá, a fim de bloquear todas as suas comunicações com Asa, rei de Judá.	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa, porém, tomando toda a prata e o ouro que restavam nas reservas do templo do Senhor e do palácio real, pô-los nas mãos de seus servos que enviou a Ben-Hadad, filho de Tabremon, filho de Hezion, rei da Síria, que residia em Damasco, com esta mensagem:	18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,
19 Façamos aliança, assim como foram aliados o teu pai e o meu. Mando-te um presente de prata e ouro, e peço-te que rompas tua aliança com Baasa, rei de Israel, para que ele cesse de me importunar.	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 Ben-Hadad acedeu ao desejo do rei Asa; mandou seus generais contra as cidades de Israel, e devastou Aion, Dã, Abel, Bet-Maaca, todo o Cenerot com a terra de Neftali.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 Ao saber disso, Baasa abandonou a fortificação de Ramá e retirou-se para Tersa.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 Então o rei Asa convocou toda a tribo de Judá, sem exceção de ninguém, para tirar as pedras e a madeira de que Baasa se tinha servido para as fortificações de Ramá. Com esse material, Asa fortificou Gabaa de Benjamim e Masfa.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.
24 Adormeceu com seus pais e foi sepultado com eles na cidade de Davi, seu pai. Seu filho Josafá sucedeu-lhe no trono.	24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.
25 No segundo ano de Asa, rei de Judá, Nadab, filho de Jeroboão, tornou-se rei de Israel. Reinou dois anos em Israel.	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.
26 Ele fez o mal aos olhos do Senhor, imitou o seu pai, entregando-se ao pecado ao qual Jeroboão havia arrastado Israel.	26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.
27 Baasa, filho de Aías, da casa de Issacar, conspirou contra ele, e assassinou-o diante de Gebeton dos filisteus, no tempo em que Nadab e todo o Israel sitiavam essa cidade.	27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.
28 Baasa, no terceiro ano de Asa, rei de Judá, cometeu esse crime e sucedeu-lhe no trono.	28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.
29 Logo que subiu ao trono, exterminou toda a casa de Jeroboão, não deixando alma viva. Exterminou-os completamente, como havia predito o Senhor pelo seu servo Aías, de Silo,	29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,
30 por causa dos pecados que Jeroboão cometeu e levou Israel a cometer, provocando assim a cólera do Senhor, Deus de Israel.	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.

33 No terceiro ano de Asa, rei de Judá, Baasa, filho de Aías, tornou-se rei de Israel. Residia em Tersa, e reinou vinte e quatro anos.	33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.
34 Baasa fez o mal diante do Senhor; andou no caminho de Jeroboão, e entregou-se ao pecado ao qual Jeroboão arrastara Israel.	34 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which hehad led Israel.
