Genesis 6

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando os homens começaram a multiplicar-se sobre a terra, e lhes nasceram filhas,	1 When people began being numerous on earth, and daughters had been born to them,
2 os filhos de Deus viram que as filhas dos homens eram belas, e escolheram esposas entre elas.	2 the sons of God, looking at the women, saw how beautiful they were and married as many of them asthey chose.
3 O senhor então disse: "Meu espírito não permanecerá para sempre no homem, porque todo ele é carne, e a duração de sua vida será de cento e vinte anos."	3 Yahweh said, 'My spirit cannot be indefinitely responsible for human beings, who are only flesh; let thetime al owed each be a hundred and twenty years.'
4 Naquele tempo viviam gigantes na terra, como também daí por diante, quando os filhos de Deus se uniam às filhas dos homens e elas geravam filhos. Estes são os heróis, tão afamados nos tempos antigos.	4 The Nephilim were on earth in those days (and even afterwards) when the sons of God resorted to thewomen, and had children by them. These were the heroes of days gone by, men of renown.
5 O Senhor viu que a maldade dos homens era grande na terra, e que todos os pensamentos de seu coração estavam continuamente voltados para o mal.	5 Yahweh saw that human wickedness was great on earth and that human hearts contrived nothing butwicked schemes al day long.
6 O Senhor arrependeu-se de ter criado o homem na terra, e teve o coração ferido de íntima dor.	6 Yahweh regretted having made human beings on earth and was grieved at heart.
7 E disse: "Exterminarei da superfície da terra o homem que criei, e com ele os animais, os répteis e as aves dos céus, porque eu me arrependo de os haver criado."	7 And Yahweh said, 'I shal rid the surface of the earth of the human beings whom I created -- humanand animal, the creeping things and the birds of heaven -- for I regret having made them.'
8 Noé, entretanto, encontrou graça aos olhos do Senhor.	8 But Noah won Yahweh's favour.
9 Esta é a história de Noé. Noé era um homem justo e perfeito no meio dos homens de sua geração. Ele andava com Deus.	9 This is the story of Noah: Noah was a good man, an upright man among his contemporaries, and hewalked with God.
10 Noé teve três filhos: Sem, Cam e Jafet.	10 Noah fathered three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.
11 A terra corrompia-se diante de Deus e enchia-se de violência.	11 God saw that the earth was corrupt and ful of lawlessness.
12 Deus olhou para a terra e viu que ela estava corrompida: toda a criatura seguia na terra o caminho da corrupção.	12 God looked at the earth: it was corrupt, for corrupt were the ways of al living things on earth.
13 Então Deus disse a Noé: "Eis chegado o fim de toda a criatura diante de mim, pois eles encheram a terra de violência. Vou exterminá-los juntamente com a terra.	13 God said to Noah, 'I have decided that the end has come for al living things, for the earth is full oflawlessness because of human beings. So I am now about to destroy them and the earth.
14 Faze para ti uma arca de madeira resinosa: dividi-la-ás em compartimentos e a untarás de betume por dentro e por fora.	14 Make yourself an ark out of resinous wood. Make it of reeds and caulk it with pitch inside and out.
15 E eis como a farás: seu comprimento será de trezentos côvados, sua largura de cinqüenta côvados, e sua altura de trinta.	15 This is how to make it: the length of the ark is to be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, andits height thirty cubits.
16 Farás no cimo da arca uma abertura com a dimensão dum côvado. Porás a porta da arca a um lado, e construirás três andares de compartimentos.	16 Make a roof to the ark, building it up to a cubit higher. Put the entrance in the side of the ark, which isto be made with lower, second and third decks.
17 Eis que vou fazer cair o dilúvio sobre a terra, uma inundação que exterminará todo ser que tenha sopro de vida debaixo do céu. Tudo que está sobre a terra morrerá.	17 'For my part I am going to send the flood, the waters, on earth, to destroy al living things having thebreath of life under heaven; everything on earth is to perish.
18 Mas farei aliança contigo: entrarás na arca com teus filhos, tua mulher e as mulheres de teus filhos.	18 But with you I shal establish my covenant and you wil go aboard the ark, yourself, your sons, yourwife, and your sons' wives along with you.
19 De tudo o que vive, de cada espécie de animais, farás entrar na arca dois, macho e fêmea, para que vivam contigo.	19 From al living creatures, from al living things, you must take two of each kind aboard the ark, to savetheir lives with yours; they must be a male and a female.
20 De cada espécie de aves, e de cada espécie de quadrúpedes, e de cada espécie de animais que se arrastam sobre a terra, entrará um casal contigo, para que lhes possas conservar a vida.	20 Of every species of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that creeps along theground, two must go with you so that their lives may be saved.
21 Tomarás também contigo de todas as coisas para comer, e armazená-las-ás para que te sirvam de alimento, a ti e aos animais."	21 For your part, provide yourself with eatables of al kinds, and lay in a store of them, to serve as foodfor yourself and them.'
22 Noé obedeceu, e fez tudo o que o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado.	22 Noah did this; exactly as God commanded him, he did.
