Lettera agli Ebrei 12

1 Dunque anche noi, dal momento che abbiamo una tale nube di testimoni che ci circonda, con pazienza corriamo la gara che ci viene messa innanzi, dopo aver deposto tutto ciò che appesantisce e il peccato che ci irretisce,	1 Furthermore, since we also have so great a cloud of witnesses over us, let us set aside every burden and sin which may surround us, and advance, through patience, to the struggle offered to us.
2 avendo lo sguardo fisso su Gesù, autore e consumatore della fede, il quale, in luogo della gioia che gli si proponeva davanti, si sottopose alla croce, sprezzando l'ignominia, e ora siede alla destra del trono di Dio.	2 Let us gaze upon Jesus, as the Author and the completion of our faith, who, having joy laid out before him, endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and who now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Infatti ripensate a colui che ha sofferto in se stesso siffatta contraddizione, da parte dei peccatori, per non stancarvi, lasciandovi intorpidire nelle anime vostre.	3 So then, meditate upon him who endured such adversity from sinners against himself, so that you may not become weary, failing in your souls.
4 Finora non avete, nella lotta contro il peccato, resistito fino al sangue,	4 For you have not yet resisted unto blood, while striving against sin.
5 e vi siete dimenticati dell'esortazione che si rivolge a voi, come a figli: Figlio mio, non disprezzare la correzione del Signore e non ti scoraggiare quando sei da lui ripreso.	5 And you have forgotten the consolation which speaks to you like sons, saying: “My son, do not be willing to neglect the discipline of the Lord. Neither should you become weary, while being rebuked by him.”
6 Il Signore infatti corregge colui che ama e frusta ogni figlio che egli accoglie.	6 For whomever the Lord loves, he chastises. And every son whom he accepts, he scourges.
7 Per correzione voi soffrite. Dio si presenta a voi come a figli: qual è il figlio che il padre non corregge?	7 Persevere in discipline. God presents you to himself as sons. But what son is there, whom his father does not correct?
8 Se invece siete senza correzione, della quale tutti sono diventati partecipi, allora siete dei bastardi e non figli.	8 But if you are without that discipline in which all have become sharers, then you are of adultery, and you are not sons.
9 Noi avevamo come correttori i padri della nostra carne e li veneravamo. Non saremo molto di più sottomessi a Dio, padre degli spiriti, per avere la vita?	9 Then, too, we have certainly had the fathers of our flesh as instructors, and we reverenced them. Should we not obey the Father of spirits all the more, and so live?
10 Infatti quelli ci correggevano per pochi giorni, secondo ciò che loro sembrava bene; egli invece per il nostro vantaggio, per farci partecipare alla sua santità.	10 And indeed, for a few days and according to their own wishes, they instructed us. But he does so to our benefit, so that we may receive his sanctification.
11 Ogni correzione sul momento, è vero, non appare causa di gioia, ma più tardi porta in cambio un frutto pacifico di giustizia a quelli che sono esercitati da essa.	11 Now every discipline, in the present time, does not seem a gladness, of course, but a grief. But afterwards, it will repay a most peaceful fruit of justice to those who become trained in it.
12 Perciò raddrizzate le mani inerti e le ginocchia paralizzate,	12 Because of this, lift up your lazy hands and your lax knees,
13 e fate dritti i sentieri per i vostri piedi, perché ciò che è zoppo non abbia a deviare, ma piuttosto sia guarito.	13 and straighten the path of your feet, so that no one, being lame, may wander astray, but instead may be healed.
14 Perseguite la pace con tutti e la santificazione, senza la quale nessuno potrà vedere il Signore,	14 Pursue peace with everyone. Pursue sanctity, without which no one shall see God.
15 vigilando perché nessuno sia mancante alla grazia di Dio, perché non nasca alcuna radice amara e diventi causa di torbidi, e per mezzo di questa non siano infettati molti.	15 Be contemplative, lest anyone lack the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness spring up and impede you, and by it, many might be defiled,
16 Nessuno sia fornicatore né profanatore, come Esaù, che per una vivanda rinunziò ai suoi diritti di primogenitura.	16 lest any fornicator or worldly person be like Esau, who, for the sake of one meal, sold his birthright.
17 Sapete infatti che in seguito, volendo egli ereditare la benedizione, fu rigettato; infatti non trovò luogo a pentimento, nonostante che con lacrime cercasse di ottenerlo.	17 For you know that afterwards, when he desired to inherit the benediction, he was rejected. For he found no place for repentance, even though he had sought it with tears.
18 Voi infatti non vi siete avvicinati a qualcosa di palpabile e a un fuoco ardente né a oscurità, tenebra e procella,	18 But you have not drawn near to a tangible mountain, or a burning fire, or a whirlwind, or a mist, or a storm,
19 né a squillo di tromba e a suono di parole, tale che quelli che l'udirono supplicarono che non si rivolgesse più loro parola.	19 or the sound of a trumpet, or a voice of words. Those who had experienced these things excused themselves, lest the Word be spoken to them.
20 Essi infatti non riuscivano a sopportare l'ordine: Anche se un animale tocca la montagna, sia lapidato.	20 For they could not bear what was said, and so, if even a beast would have touched the mountain, it would have been stoned.
21 E Mosè, tanto era terribile lo spettacolo, disse: Io sono spaventato e tremante.	21 And what was seen was so terrible that even Moses said: “I am terrified, and so, I tremble.”
22 Al contrario vi siete avvicinati al monte Sion, alla città del Dio vivente, alla Gerusalemme celeste e alle miriadi di angeli, ceto trionfante	22 But you have drawn near to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of Angels,
23 e assemblea dei primogeniti iscritti nei cieli, a Dio giudice di tutti e agli spiriti dei giusti, giunti al perfezionamento,	23 and to the Church of the first-born, those who have been inscribed in the heavens, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect,
24 a Gesù, mediatore di una alleanza nuova, e al sangue di aspersione che parla meglio di quello di Abele.	24 and to Jesus, the Mediator of the New Testament, and to a sprinkling of blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
25 Fate attenzione a non rifiutare colui che parla. Se infatti costoro non sfuggirono per avere rifiutato colui che promulgava oracoli sulla terra, molto meno noi, se ci ritiriamo da colui che ci parla dal cielo,	25 Be careful not to reject the One who is speaking. For if those who rejected him who was speaking upon the earth were not able to escape, so much more we who might turn away from the One who is speaking to us from heaven.
26 la cui voce allora scosse la terra. Ora invece ha fatto questa promessa: Ancora una volta io farò tremare non solo la terra, ma anche il cielo.	26 Then, his voice moved the earth. But now, he makes a promise, saying: “There is still one more time, and then I will move, not only the earth, but also heaven itself.”
27 Quell'ancora una volta mostra il cambiamento delle cose che vengono scosse, in quanto create, affinché rimangano quelle che non vengono scosse.	27 And so, in saying, “There is still one more time,” he declares the transfer of the moveable things of creation, so that those things which are immoveable may remain.
28 Perciò noi, che riceviamo il regno che non può venire scosso, riteniamo la grazia, per mezzo della quale prestiamo a Dio il culto, in modo che piaccia a lui, con rispetto e timore.	28 Thus, in receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace. So, through grace, let us be of service, by pleasing God with fear and reverence.
29 Infatti il nostro Dio è un fuoco che consuma.	29 For our God is a consuming fire.
